3 Important Safeguards Basic safety precautions should always be practiced when using electrical appliances, including the following: Read and save all instructions. DO NOT touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. The appliance should never be left unattended when in use. To protect against fire, electrical shock and injury, DO NOT immerse cord, plug or appliance in water or other liquids. Use close supervision when using appliances near children. Unplug appliance from the outlet when the appliance is not in use and before cleaning. Allow appliance to cool before putting on or removing parts and accessories. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug. DO NOT use the appliance if the appliance has malfunctioned or has been damaged in any manner. DO NOT use accessories or attachments that are not manufactured by Mega Cocina as they may result in fire, electric shock or injury. DO NOT use outdoors. To use, plug the cord into the electrical outlet. To disconnect, grasp plug and remove from outlet. DO NOT pull on the cord. DO NOT allow the cord to hang over the edge of the table or counter or allow it to come in contact with hot surfaces. DO NOT place on or near hot gas, electric burner or in a heated oven. Turn to OFF prior to connecting or disconnecting the plug from the outlet. Never use the appliance without water. When the appliance is not in use, keep the control knob in the OFF position. DO NOT unscrew or attempt to remove the safety lid while the appliance is in operation. Wait until the brewing cycle is complete and all the water and steam have exited from the appliance to unscrew or remove the safety lid. The carafe is designed for use with this appliance only. Never use a cracked carafe or a carafe with a loose or weakened handle. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or steel wool pads to clean the carafe. This appliance is for household use only. DO NOT attempt to service this product yourself. 2

4 Electrical Cord The cord on this appliance was selected to reduce the possibility of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If additional length is needed, use an extension cord rated no less than 120V. When using an extension cord, DO NOT let the extension cord drape over the working area or dangle where someone could easily trip over it. For longer cord life, avoid pulling the cord from the outlet. This product is only intended for household use with 120V. 3

5 Making Espresso 1. Make sure the control knob is in the OFF position. 2. Remove the safety lid by turning it counter-clockwise. 3. Fill the carafe with 2 to 4 cups of cold water, using the level markings on the carafe to measure the water. 4. Pour the water into the water reservoir. 5. Close the safety lid by turning clockwise. 6. Remove the filter basket and filter by turning left. Measure the proper amount of ground espresso coffee and place it into the filter basket. 7. Place the filter basket into the filter holder. 8. Insert the filter holder into the brew head by pushing it upward so it is aligned with the matching slots. Turn the handle right until it is securely locked into place. 9. Place the lid on the carafe and place the carafe in position on the detachable drip plate. 10. Turn the control knob to BREW. 11. After approximately 4 minutes, espresso will begin to flow into the carafe. 12. DO NOT open the safety lid or remove the filter holder during the brewing process. Scalding may occur. 13. When espresso has stopped flowing into the carafe, turn the control knob to the OFF position. 4

6 14. Before removing the safety lid or the filter holder, turn the control knob to the MAXIMUM STEAM position and wait until steam is no longer flowing from the steam nozzle. Then turn the control knob to the OFF position. Making Cappuccino Cappuccino is easily made by combining espresso coffee, milk and frothed milk. 1. Fill a tall, narrow pitcher with fresh cold milk. Low-fat or skim milk is preferred. 2. Follow steps 1-12 for making espresso coffee. 3. As the coffee begins to flow into the carafe, hold the pitcher under the frother. Insert the frother just under the surface of the milk. Turn the control knob slowly to the maximum steam position. Moving the pitcher in a circular direction, use the control knob to achieve the desired froth. Make sure the frother is under the milk surface to avoid splattering. 4. When frothing is complete, turn the knob back to the BREW position to finish the brewing process. 5. When espresso has stopped flowing into the carafe, turn the control knob to the OFF position. 6. Before removing the safety lid or the filter holder, turn the control knob to the MAXIMUM STEAM position and wait until steam is no longer flowing from the steam nozzle. Then turn the control knob to the OFF position. 7. Fill the cappuccino cup with 1/3 espresso. Pour an equal amount of heated milk from the frothing pitcher and top with frothed milk by spooning the frothed milk into the cup. 5

7 Care and Cleaning Unplug your Mega Cocina Espresso & Cappuccino Maker from the electrical outlet. Allow it to cool completely before cleaning. Empty and rinse the filter basket and filter holder thoroughly with warm water after each use. Dry before reassembling. Use warm soapy water to clean the carafe and carafe lid. Handle with extreme care as glass will become slippery when wet. Use a damp cloth to clean the outside of the appliance. NEVER immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid. 6

8 DE-SCALING REMOVING HARD WATER MINERAL DEPOSITS If you live in an area with hard water, mineral and calcium deposits (from the hard water) will accumulate and will adversely affect the operation of your Mega Cocina Espresso and Cappuccino Maker. Therefore, this appliance should be cleaned with distilled vinegar every 3-6 months to remove the mineral deposits. Before cleaning your Mega Cocina Espresso and Cappuccino Maker, make sure the control knob is in the OFF position and the appliance has been disconnected from the wall outlet. Fill the carafe with distilled vinegar and pour the vinegar into the water reservoir. Fasten the safety lid. Attach the filter holder and filter basket. Place carafe on detachable drip plate. Plug your Mega Cocina Espresso and Cappuccino Maker into a volt AC electrical outlet. Turn the Control Knob to the BREW position. In a few minutes, the heated vinegar will start to flow through the filter into the carafe. Place the steam nozzle into a tall glass or mug. Move the control knob to the MAXIMUM STEAM setting for a few seconds during the brewing process. This will remove any milk residue from the steam nozzle. Turn the control knob to the BREW position to close the stem nozzle and to allow the hot vinegar to continue to flow into the carafe. 7

9 When the vinegar has stopped flowing, turn the control knob to the OFF position. Allow your Mega Cocina Espresso and Cappuccino Maker to cool completely. Remove the filter holder, filter basket and carafe and rinse with hot water. Repeat the above steps twice using cold water to rinse away any traces of vinegar. Turn the control knob to the OFF position and unplug your Mega Cocina Espresso and Cappuccino Maker from the outlet. Do not attempt any other servicing yourself. 8

11 MEDIDAS IMPORTANTES DE SEGURIDAD Cuando use aparatos eléctricos, tenga las siguientes precauciones: Lea las instrucciones detenidamente y guárdelas. NO toque superficies calientes. Use los mangos. Es necesario la supervisión de un adulto cuando el aparato esté cerca de niños. Desenchufe el aparato cuando no lo esté usando o cuando lo esté limpiando. Deje que el aparato se enfríe antes de poner o remover partes o accesorios. NO opere el aparato con el cable eléctrico o enchufe dañado o con ningún defecto de funcionamiento. NO use accesorios que no sean fabricados por MegaCocina ya que pueden causar fuego, choque eléctrico o lesión. NO use el aparato al aire libre o cuando el suelo esté mojado. Para usar, enchufe el cable eléctrico en el receptáculo de electricidad. Para desconectar, agarre el enchufe y remuévalo del receptáculo de electricidad. NO hale el cable. NO permita que el cable eléctrico esté colgado del borde de una mesa o mostrador o que toque una superficie caliente. NO coloque el aparato sobre o cerca de una hornilla de gas o de electricidad o en un horno caliente. Antes de conectar o desconectar el aparato, asegúrese que el botón de control esté en la posición OFF. Nunca use el aparato sin agua. Cuando el aparato no esté en uso, mantenga el botón de control en la posición OFF. NO intente destornillar o sacar la tapa de seguridad mientras el aparato esté en uso. Espere que se acabe el ciclo de colar y que toda el agua y vapor se hayan salido del aparato antes de destornillar o sacar la tapa de seguridad. 12 NO use detergentes abrasivos o almohadillas de lana de acero para limpiar la garrafa. NO intente reparar el aparato por sí mismo. ESTE APARATO ES PARA USO DOMESTICO SOLAMENTE. CABLE ELÉCTRICO Un cable eléctrico corto está incluido con este aparato para reducir el riesgo de que las personas se enreden. Si se necesita un cable más largo, use un cable de extensión de no menos de 120V. El índice eléctrico del cable de extensión debe ser del mismo índice que el aparato eléctrico. Tenga mucho cuidado cuando use un cable de extensión. NO deje que el cable de extensión esté colgado del borde de la mesa o mostrador o donde una persona pudiera enredarse. Para larga vida del cable, no hale el cable del receptáculo de electricidad. Este aparato es para uso doméstico solamente con índice eléctrico de 120V. 11

13 COMO HACER CAFE ESPRESSO 1. Asegúrese que el botón de control esté en la posición OFF. Enchufe el cable eléctrico de la cafetera en un receptáculo eléctrico de V, corriente alterna. 2. Quite la tapa de seguridad haciéndola girar hacia la izquierda. 3. Llene la garrafa de vidrio con 2 a 4 tazas de agua fría, usando como referencia las marcas que aparecen en la garrafa para medir el agua. 4. Ponga el agua en el depósito de agua. 5. Cierre la tapa de seguridad girándola hacia la derecha. 6. Quite el filtro permanente y el sostén de filtro girándolos a la izquierda. Con una cuchara de medir, determine la cantidad de café espresso molido requerido y póngalo en el filtro permanente. 7. Coloque el filtro permanente en el sostén de filtro. 8. Inserte el sostén de filtro (con el filtro permanente adentro) en el cabezal para colar, empujándolo hacia arriba para que coincida con las ranuras. Haga girar el mango a la derecha hasta que quede firmemente sujeto. 9. Coloque la tapa en la garrafa de vidrio y póngala en posición sobre la bandeja de goteo. 10. Ponga el botón de control en la posición BREW. 11. Después de aproximadamente 4 minutos, el café espresso fluirá a la garrafa de vidrio. 12. No abra la tapa de seguridad ni quite el sostén de filtro mientras la cafetera esté en el proceso de colar ya que puede causar quemaduras. 12

14 13. Cuando deje de fluir el café a la garrafa de vidrio, ponga el botón de control en la posición OFF. 14. Antes de sacar la tapa de seguridad o el sostén de filtro, ponga el botón de control en la posición MAXIMUM STEAM (máxima producción de vapor) y espere hasta que deje de salir vapor por la boquilla. Entonces, ponga el botón de control en la posición OFF. COMO HACER CAFE CAPPUCCINO El cappuccino es fácil de hacer combinando café espresso, leche y leche con espuma. 1. Llene un recipiente alto y estrecho con leche fresca y fría. Es preferible usar leche desnatada. 2. Siga las instrucciones 1-12 en la sección Cómo Hacer Café Espresso. 3. Cuando el café comience a fluir a la garrafa de vidrio, coloque el recipiente con leche debajo de la boquilla para espumar. Inserte la boquilla exactamente debajo de la superficie de la leche. Coloque lentamente el botón de control en la posición MAXIMUM STEAM (máxima producción de vapor). Mueva de modo circular el recipiente que contiene la leche y ajuste el flujo de vapor ajustando el botón de control hasta lograr el nivel de producción de espuma que desee. Asegúrese que la boquilla para espumar esté colocada debajo de la superficie de la leche para evitar que salpique. 4. Una vez terminado el proceso de producción de espuma, ponga el botón de control a la posición BREW y termine la preparación del café espresso. 5. Cuando el café espresso deje de fluir a la garrafa de vidrio, ponga el botón de control en la posición OFF. 13

Antes de quitar la tapa de seguridad o el sostén del filtro, haga girar el botón de control a la posición de MAXIMUM STEAM (máxima producción de vapor) y espere hasta que deje de salir vapor por la boquilla. Entonces, ponga el botón de control en la posición OFF. 7. Llene la(s) taza(s) de cappuccino con 1/3 de café espresso. Vierta una igual cantidad de leche caliente del recipiente. Ponga una cuchara de leche con espuma encima de la mezcla de café espresso y leche caliente. COMO LIMPIAR Desconecte el aparato del receptáculo de electricidad y deje que se enfríe completamente antes de limpiarlo. Después de cada uso, el sostén de filtro y el filtro permanente deben ser limpiados con agua caliente. Seque las partes antes de volver a montar en el aparato. Use jabón y agua caliente para limpiar la garrafa de vidrio y la tapa de plástico de la garrafa. Use extrema precaución ya que el vidrio se puede resbalar cuando esté mojado. La bandeja removible puede ser removida y lavada con jabón y agua caliente. Para limpiar el exterior del aparato, use una toalla mojada. NUNCA sumerja el aparato en agua u otros líquidos. 14

16 DESCALCIFICACION - COMO REMOVER DEPOSITOS DE MINERALES DEJADOS POR EL AGUA Si usted vive en un área que tiene agua dura, los depósitos de minerales y calcio (del agua dura) se acumularán y afectarán adversamente la operación de su Cafetera Espresso-Cappuccino MegaCocina. Por lo tanto, este aparato debe ser limpiado con vinagre destilado cada 3 a 6 meses para remover los depósitos de minerales. Antes de limpiar su Cafetera Espresso-Cappuccino MegaCocina, asegúrese que el botón de control esté en la posición OFF y que el aparato haya sido desconectado del receptáculo de electricidad de la pared. Llene la garrafa de vidrio con vinagre destilado y vierta el vinagre en el depósito de agua. Asegure la tapa de seguridad. Fije el sostén de filtro con filtro permanente adentro. Coloque la garrafa de vidrio en la bandeja de goteo. Conecte su Cafetera Espresso-Cappuccino MegaCocina a un receptáculo con índice eléctrico de V. Ponga el botón de control a la posición BREW. En unos minutos el vinagre caliente comenzará a fluir a través del filtro a la garrafa de vidrio. Coloque la salida de vapor en un pichel o vaso alto. Mueva el botón de control a la posición MAXIMUM STEAM (máxima producción de vapor) por algunos segundos durante el proceso de colar. Esto removerá cualquier residuo de leche de la salida de vapor. Ponga el botón de control en la posición BREW para cerrar la salida de vapor y permitir que el vinagre caliente continúe fluyendo hacia la garrafa de vidrio. Cuando el vinagre deje de fluir, ponga el botón de control a la posición OFF. Permita que la Cafetera-Espresso Cappuccino MegaCocina se enfríe completamente. Remueva el sostén de filtro, el filtro permanente y la garrafa de vidrio y enjuague con agua caliente. Repita los pasos antes mencionados dos veces usando agua fría para remover cualquier trazo de vinagre. 15

17 Ponga el botón de control a la posición OFF y desconecte la Cafetera Espresso-Cappuccino MegaCocina del receptáculo de electricidad. No intente reparar el aparato por sí mismo. 16
