1 Characteristics of Fellowship # 3 1 John 3 Las características de la communion #3 1 Juan 3 Introduction We have considered the characteristics of true fellowship over the last several weeks. We have looked at these characteristics in relation to our future, in relation to our position, and now we want to look at them in relation to our prayers. John gives us three things that the believer possesses in relation to prayer when they are in true fellowship.

El creyente tiene seguridad. 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. (1 John 3:19-20) 19 En esto sabremos que somos de la verdad, y nos sentiremos seguros delante de él: 20 que aunque nuestro corazón nos condene, Dios es más grande que nuestro corazón y lo sabe todo (1 Juan 3:19-20) A. 19 This then is how we know... (v. 19a) 19 En esto sabremos (v. 19a). 1. This refers us back to the previous verses we have already studied. Esta parte se refiere a lo que vimos en otro estudio.

3 3 2. We know God loves us because He laid down his life for us (v.16). Sabemos que Dios nos ama porque Jesucristo entregó su vida por nosotros (v. 16). 3. We know we are of the truth if we love our brothers; not only in word but in deed (v.14). Sabemos que somos de la verdad si amamos a nuestro hermanos no solamente de palabra sino con acciones. B....We set our hearts at rest in his presence (v. 19b). nos sentiremos seguros delante de él (v. 19b) 1. If we are of the truth, then we are truly His. Si somos de la verdad entonces somos de él.

4 4 2. We know in our hearts and have the assurance that we are saved! No sentiremos seguros en nuestros corazones y estamos seguros que somos salvos. C. Whenever our hearts condemn us... (v. 20a). 20 aunque nuestro corazón nos condene (v. 20a) 1. Our hearts (consciences) will condemn us because we know that we have not always loved our brothers as we should. Nuestros corazones nos condenen puesto que sabemos que no siempre amamos a nuestros prójimos como deberíamos. 2. John teaches us that we can t depend on feelings.

5 5 Juan nos enseña que no podemos depender de nuestros sentimientos. 3. Thank God our salvation and assurance are not based upon the feelings of our hearts, but on our great and mighty God. Gracias a Dios que nuestra salvación y seguridad no se basan en nuestros sentimientos sino en nuestro Dios todopoderoso. II. The Believer Has Confidence (vv ). El creyente tiene confianza. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God (1 John 3:21) 21 Queridos hermanos, si el corazón no nos condena, tenemos confianza delante de Dios, (1 John 3:21) A. Our confidence comes from an assured heart. Nuestra confianza viene de un corazón firme. B. Our confidence is toward God in prayer. Nuestra confianza se dirige a Dios.

6 6 1. If there is sin in my heart then we cannot pray with confidence. Si hay pecado en el corazón, entonces no podemos orar con confianza. 2. The Holy Spirit reminds us of that sin and convinces that we may confess it and get back into fellowship with the Father. El Espíritu Santo nos recuerda de este pecado y nos convence que podemos confesarlo y volver a tener comunión con el Padre. 3. When a Christian is out of fellowship with a brother, then he cannot pray with confidence.

También es verdad del hogar del cristiano. 1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, (1 Peter 3:1) 1 Así mismo, esposas, sométanse a sus esposos, de modo que si algunos de ellos no creen en la palabra, puedan ser ganados más por el comportamiento de ustedes que por sus palabras, (1 Pedro 3.1) C. Our prayers will be answered: 22 and [we] receive from him anything we ask, 1. because we obey his commands 2. and do what pleases him. We have a two-part commandment of the Father. 23 And this is his command: 1. to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, 2. and to love one another as he commanded us. 23 Y éste es su mandamiento: 1. que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, 2. y que nos amemos los unos a los otros, pues así lo ha dispuesto. B. As a result, we have a witness Those who obey his commands live in him, 2. and he in them. (1 John 3:24) 24 And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. (1 John 3:24)

9 9 Resulta que tenemos un testigo El que obedece sus mandamientos permanece en Dios, 2. y Dios en él. Cómo sabemos que él permanece en nosotros? Por el Espíritu que nos dio. (1 John ) 1. Romans 8:16, 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God s children. (Romans 8:16) 16 El Espíritu mismo le asegura a nuestro espíritu que somos hijos de Dios. (Romanos 8.16) C. Our position in Christ: 1. Begins with faith. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, (1 John 3:23a) Nuestra posición en Cristo: Comienza con fe. 23 Y éste es su mandamiento: que creamos en el nombre de su Hijo Jesucristo, (1 John 3:23a)

10 10 2. Continues with love. 23 and to love one another as he commanded us. (1 John 3:23b) Sigue con amor. 23 y que nos amemos los unos a los otros, pues así lo ha dispuesto (1 John 3:23b) 3. Is contingent on obedience. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. (1 John 3:24a) Depende de la obediencia. 24 El que obedece sus mandamientos permanece en Dios, y Dios en él. 4. Is confirmed by the Spirit. 24 And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. 11 11 Conclusión When it comes to our prayers, do we have assurance? Cuando hablamos de nuestras oraciones, nos sentiremos seguros delante de él? Do we have confidence? Tenemos confianza? Do we have the witness of the Spirit of God? Tenemos el testigo del Espíritu Santo? This is a characteristic of true fellowship with Christ. Esta es una característica de la comunión verdadera con Cristo. The question for each of us is simple; are we enjoying fellowship with Christ? La pregunta para cada uno de nosotros es sencilla; estamos gozando de una comunión con Cristo? If not, what must change?
