A prediction is a good guess about what will happen next in a story. In this story, the duck is going to see the king. On his way the duck meets his friend the fox. The fox wants to help the duck with the king but the duck thinks the fox will get too tired on the long trip. What will happen next? 10 Once upon a time, Pig and Mule were pals. Pig lived across the way from Mule. Pig and Mule liked to bake. 2 A Day with Pig and Mule Mule said, I sold all my egg buns. But I didn t even make a dime! The pals did not know why they were not rich. 15

11 Pig and Mule walked home. Pig said, I sold all my plum cakes. But I just have my dime. 14 One day Pig said, I think I will bake cakes. I will bake, too, said Mule. I can make buns. We can sell our cakes and buns! said Pig. And we will get rich! Mule added. 3 A Day with Pig and Mule

12 Pig picked plums to bake plum cakes. Plum cakes! Yum! 4 A Day with Pig and Mule All day, Pig and Mule went back and forth. Pig bought Mule s egg buns. He paid with his dime. Mule bought Pig s plum cakes. He paid with the same dime. At the end of the day, all the buns and cakes were gone! 13

13 Pig said, I want another egg bun! I will pay with this dime. Mule said, I want another plum cake! I will pay with this dime! 12 Mule used lots of eggs in his buns. Egg buns! Yum! 5 A Day with Pig and Mule

14 Pig said, I have eight plum cakes. I will carry them in this box. Mule said, I have eight egg buns. I will carry them in this pail. 6 A Day with Pig and Mule Then Mule said, It s time for a snack. I will get a plum cake! Mule paid with the dime. 11

15 Pig and Mule waited and waited. Still no one came. Pig said, It s time for a snack. I will get an egg bun! I will pay with this dime. 10 Pig set out his cakes. Mule set out his buns. Pig said, We will sell our cakes and buns. Mule said, And we will get rich! 7 A Day with Pig and Mule

16 Pig waited. No one came to buy plum cakes. Pig got hungry. It s time for lunch, he said. Pig saw Mule s egg buns. Pig had a dime. He bought an egg bun.
