1 Last name: First name: Date: Period: SOLUBILITY: Reading, Questions, & Inquiry Activity COM FIX INC INTRODUCTION: A solution is a mixture that appears to be a single substance but is made of two or more substances that are mixed evenly amongst each other. The process in which particles of substances separate and spread evenly throughout a mixture is called dissolving. The substance that is dissolved is called the solute, and the substance to which it is added is called the solvent. The solubility of a solvent is the maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a certain amount of solvent at a given temperature. Different substances have different solubility. Heating a substance can also change its solubility. Mixing or crushing a substance can affect the amount of time that it takes to dissolve. QUESTIONS: 1. Salt water is a solution.
