Immediately after the miracle of Christmas, in which the Lord gives his Divinity to our humanity becoming one with mankind, the Catholic Church rejoices in his Saints! The Holy Spirit, who made possible the Incarnation, is powerfully at work in Saint Stephen (December 26) who gives witness to Christ savings many souls to Lord, like the one of Saint Paul. Then, Our Mother Church lays out the mystery of Salvation for us by pointing to Saint John and the Holy Innocents (December 27 and 28). This Christ wants us to move from the tenderness of the Nativity to the action of the Gospel, which means to be witness of Jesus until death and beyond. God has the initiative; man is called to respond to the living power of the Holy Spirit, who is seeking men and women of good will. Relying exclusively in his own strength, man is incapable to fully enter into relationship with God - which means to desire eternal life. Therefore, the Lord in this of Christmas (liturgically Christmas goes from the night of December 24 until the Baptism of the Lord, January 9) is inviting us to entrust our life to him, so that we may receive his love. This Sacred Time is not only for us as individuals, but for us as a family (Feast of the Holy Family on December 30); the Lord wants to redeem us as a whole. Finally, in this fight against evil and in our struggle to be united with God, let us not forget the unfailing help of the Virgin Mary (Solemnity of Mary the Holy Mother of God on January 1). With her consent to the God will of God, we have all received Salvation through her. Many are the reasons for a Christian to rejoice always: God is one with us forever!

4 Page 4 New Year January 1, 2017 Reflexión del Primero de Enero En la liturgia del 1 de enero nuestra mirada sigue fija en el gran misterio de la encarnación del Hijo de Dios, mientras, con relieve especial, contemplamos la maternidad de la Virgen María. Es verdad que, tras pasar a un año nuevo, el fin del año civil se entrecruzan en nosotros dos perspectivas distintas: la primera, vinculada a la nochevieja; la segunda, a la solemnidad de María santísima Madre de Dios, que concluye la octava de la santa Navidad. La Iglesia está llamada a vivir las horas últimas del año haciendo suyos los sentimientos de la Virgen María.
