1 First BOOK REPORT of the year: August 21 st -25 th : Students should choose their book; it must be a fiction chapter book at a 4.5 AR level or higher, and it must be teacher-approved. September 18 th : Students must be finished reading their book; we will begin writing book reports on that day. October 2 nd : Students must turn in both their book report and their project. We will be presenting to the class that week. Esteemed Parents, It is time for the first book report of the year. This week, students should already be choosing which book they would like to read. The book must be chosen based on the guidelines mentioned above. Students must remember to read a little of it each night until they finish it; please ask to see their book and please remind them every other night to read in it. We will begin writing our book reports in class on the 18 th of September, and at this time they should begin their project as well. The book report must be typed (or written in cursive) and in paragraph form. A simple outline (and an example book report) are on the accompanying page to help students. The project for this book report will be a coat hanger mobile. There is an example drawing of one below the sample outline. Students are invited to be as creative as they wish, just as long as they have the information displayed and written as shown on the drawing. Both the book report and the project must be TURNED IN on Monday, October 2 nd. This should allow plenty of time for students to review their work, add finishing touches, and get it to school on time. During the week of October 2 nd, students will present their project in class and explain the different parts they displayed on their mobile. During their presentations, teachers will use a rubric to grade the students on their presentation skills. Students may prepare note cards to help them, if they wish. The book report will be a major writing grade, and the presentation and mobile will be one major reading grade. 2 primer INFORME DEL LIBRO del año: de agosto: Los estudiantes deben escoger un libro que sea de FICCION, de NIVEL 4.5 O MAS, que el MAESTRO aprueba. 18 de septiembre: Los estudiantes deben de terminar de leer sus libros. Empezaremos a escribir nuestros informes en ese día. 2 de octubre: Los estudiantes deben de entregar sus informes y proyectos en esa fecha. Presentaremos los proyectos a la clase durante esa semana. Estimados padres, Ya es tiempo para hacer el primer informe de libro del año. Esta semana, los estudiantes deben escoger el libro que quieren leer. El libro debe cumplir con las reglas mencionadas arriba. Los estudiantes deben recordar que deben de leer un poco de su libro cada noche, hasta terminar; por favor, pida que su hijo\a le muestre el libro y recordarles que deben de estar leyendo. Empezaremos a escribir el informe en el día 18 de septiembre; también en ese mismo día, ellos deben de empezar a hacer sus proyectos en la casa. El informe debe estar escrito en computadora (o escrito a mano en letra cursiva), en párrafos. Un bosquejo simple (y también un ejemplo de un informe de libro) se encuentran en las siguientes páginas, para ayudar a los estudiantes con su trabajo en la casa. El proyecto será un mobile, como se muestra en el dibujo en la siguiente página. Un mobile es un gancho, con varias descripciones del libro colgadas desde él. Los estudiantes pueden decorarlo en una manera que refleja una buena comprensión del cuento de su libro. Tienen que incluir todas las partes del cuento en su mobile para recibir una buena calificación. Tanto el informe como el proyecto deben de ser ENTREGADOS en el día lunes, 2 de octubre. Así los estudiantes tendrán suficiente tiempo para verificar su trabajo, arreglar pequeños problemas en él, y entregar todo a tiempo. Durante la semana del 2 de octubre, los estudiantes presentarán sus proyectos durante la clase y explicarán sus móbiles a sus compañeros de clase. Durante las presentaciones, los maestros los calificarán según una rúbrica. Los estudiantes pueden preparar tarjetas para leer, si quieren. El informe será una calificación igual a un examen de escritura, y la presentación y el proyecto serán calificados juntos como un examen de lectura. 3 HOW TO WRITE A BOOK REPORT: 1. Make sure that the full heading (name, date and title) is at the top of the page. 2. Always underline the title of the book. 3. Make sure that use correct spelling and please do not use words such as got, get, went or had use more interesting words. 4. Your first paragraph should include the title, the author, the setting, and the characters (be sure to describe each important character). It should end with a sentence that summarizes the story. 5. The second, third and fourth paragraphs should explain the story. That means they should tell what happened in the story during the beginning, middle and end. In the second paragraph, you should be sure to mention what the CONFLICT of the story was. In the third paragraph, be sure to describe the RISING ACTION. In the fourth paragraph, explain the RESOLUTION and describe how the story ended. 6. The fifth paragraph should be your reflection. Write your opinion about the book (how you felt about the story, what you thought about it, whether or not you like it, and why). What sort of person would you recommend this book to? 7. Remember that each paragraph in a report should be AT LEAST five sentences long. 8. Remember that if you are not sure about something, you d BETTER ASK! Otherwise, you might have to do the entire thing over again. The BOOK REPORT, PROJECT and PRESENTATION will be MAJOR GRADES. 4 CÓMO ESCRIBIR UN INFORME DE LIBRO: 1. Asegúrate que el encabezado entero (nombre, fecha y título) se encuentra en la parte arriba de la página. 2. Siempre subraya el título del libro. 3. Asegúrate de que deletreaste todo bien, y que no usaste palabras aburridas como fue o tuvo o tenía usa palabras más interesantes. 4. Tu primer párrafo debe incluir el título del libro, el nombre del autor, una descripción del escenario, y los personajes más importantes (describe cada personaje). El párrafo debe terminar con una oración que resuma todo el cuento del libro. 5. Párrafos dos, tres y cuatro deben contar el cuento o sea, deben decir qué pasó en el principio, en el medio y al final. El segundo párrafo debe describir el principio y explicar el CONFLICTO del cuento. El segundo párrafo debe explicar lo que pasó a continuación, incluso todo el AUMENTO DE LA ACCIÓN pero no debe mencionar el fin del libro. El cuarto párrafo debe decir cómo terminó el cuento, y explicar la RESOLUCIÓN. 6. El quinto párrafo debe contener tus pensamientos del cuento. Escribe tu opinión del libro (cómo fue para ti, qué pensaste del libro, si te gustó o no, y por qué). Además, menciona a qué tipo de persona le gustaría leer tu libro. 7. Recuerda de que cada párrafo debe contener POR LO MENOS cinco oraciones. 8. Recuerda también de que si tienes una pregunta, HAY QUE PREGUNTARLE AL MAESTRO o si no, seguramente tendrás que volver a empezar otra vez el proyecto.
