AGRELO DOMINIO This type of soil is reflected in red wines with sweet, round and concentrated tannins. This clay/clay-loam soil is on the river bed and has gravel and stones 13 feet deep. In the first layer, with 3 feet deep there is good water retention due to the clay. The soil that surrounds the root system is clay with encrusted gravel and small alluvial stones 5 feet deep.
GUALTALLARY DOMINIO GUALTA Gualtallary Terroir is translated in wines with mineral notes, firm fine-grained tannins and great length. Is one of the coolest climates GI s within the Uco Valley It could be compared with Burgundy but regularly can be situated in the same pattern than higher Bordeaux or Napa (as far as heat summation is concerned). Soils of North West Gualtallary are typically alluvial. Wind erosion has placed 4 inches of natural vegetation on this soil, forming the 1st layer. Down to a depth of 7 feet, the horizon is rocky and gravelly and has medium size alluvial stones coated with calcareous and mixed with calcium carbonate crusts (caliche). The deepest horizon sits over a big river bed of alluvial stones and gravels. The soil is extremely poor in organic material and has a very good drainage leading the plant to go deeper underground.
LOS ÁRBOLES FINCA BRIO Los Árboles Terroir is translated in bright, persistent flavors with juicy acidity. High altitude terroir based on Tunuyán, closest neighbour GI to Gualtallary. The main soils in Los Árboles are alluvial loam with strong rounded stones presence making it a very particular terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. The first layer of soil is a 12-inch layer of a sandy-loam matrix. There is a mix of medium and large alluvial rocks filling the whole profile down for 5 feet. The deepest layer of 8 feet is formed by small gravels.
LOS CHACAYES LOS CAROLINOS Los Chacayes Terroir is translated in purity of fruit with bright acidity, firm tannins and great lenght. Los Chacayes as a GI is among the warmest appellations in the Uco Valley. Its heat summation is situated slightly above other GI s like Gualtallary and Altamira. This is a colluvium (roundend stones) - alluvium (square-jagged gravels) soil, with a sandy loam frame in the first 10 inches that confers excellent drainage. The second layer is formed by a large amount of calcareous incrustations and white colored stones down until 6 feet. A layer of black caliche splits the last layer leaving a sandy loam bed underneath.
ALTAMIRA LA DELFINA Altamira Terroir is translated in medium grain tannins wines, with notes of violets, dark fruit and great length. The soil is sandy-loamy and has calcium carbonate encrustations and colluvial stones to a depth of 1.30 m (almost 4.30 ft). It is situated on a sandy soil with bigger colluvial stones until 6 feed of depth. This profile is very poor and has great drainage, which allows for high density plantations. Red wines from this vineyard present complex and deep colors, and high levels of acidity. They are also characterized by their elegance, their very long aging potential, and their persistence in the mouth.
