La primera noticia registrada sobre la fabricación de armas en Eibar data de 1482. El documento cita una partida de dos lombardas fabricadas en Eibar por un encargo del duque de Medina Sidonia. Como anécdota resta decir que el traslado de estos cañones desde Eibar hasta la desembocadura del Deba, se hizo mediante ochenta parejas de bueyes. Este dato sí es significativo ya que demuestra que la producción armera es anterior a esta fecha. A principios del siglo XX Eibar contaba con 1.149 armeros. Fotografías pertenecientes al archivo municipal de Eibar En 1917 se crea Farmi-Norica. Casi un siglo después, Norica mantiene un equilibrio perfecto entre tradición artesana e innovación tecnológica. El Departamento de Diseño e I+D trabaja con las últimas aplicaciones CAD/CAM, pero determinadas fases de la producción, donde el trabajo manual imprime un sello de calidad único, siguen estando en manos de artesanos: cañonistas, culateros, basculeros y montadores.
