Breaking Open the Word Suggested text for faith sharing: Today s 2nd Reading, from Paul Brothers and sisters: You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says: "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light." Step One: Listen to the Word As you listen to this reading proclaimed again just now, how did it touch your heart? What did you hear? What word caught your ear? Step Two: Look into Your Life Question for Children: What are the things that Jesus wants you to do as his friend? Question for Youth: Jesus helped a blind man see and he helps each of us see the world differently. How do you see differently because you believe? Question for Adults: Share how you, as a child of the light, in the power of Christ, produce goodness, justice, and truth for the world. What specific actions do you take to do this? 3 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT John 4:5-42 YEARN FOR LIVING WATER Water is crucial for our living. We are told to conserve water when we face drought situations like the people of California. Now, they are doing much better. We know that we can survive for a while without food; however without water, we would die. In the book of Exodus, Moses is leading the people through the desert toward the Promised Land. They are in the desert for 2 or 3 months and they are demanding water. They feel abandoned. God shows them he is always with them through a miraculous act of bringing water from a rock struck by Moses. God will not abandon them now after he has taken them this far. In today s Gospel from John, Jesus brings refreshment to a Samaritan woman who has been tainted by her sins. John writes that she came out to draw water from a well around midday. This is the hottest time of day when few people are out. She did not want anyone to see her because she felt guilty about her lifestyle. Jesus is there and draws her slowly into God s presence through the art of conversation. We see how she transforms from a woman with no faith, to little faith, to full faith. First, Jesus reached out to her and moved her heart. Through their conversation, she realized that she needs forgiveness. Secondly, Jesus never condemns her, but invites her into a deeper relationship with God by offering her the gift of living water. After her conversation with Jesus, the Samaritan woman becomes a missionary herself by spreading the good news about Jesus. The Gospel tells us that she leaves her water jar behind. We can look at that as a sign that she left her previous life and sins behind too. God gave her an opportunity to start again. The same can be for us too. Despite our sinfulness, Jesus wants us to encounter him every day. We just need faith (only the size of a mustard seed) for an awareness of his presence and look for his living water. We also need to let Jesus break through the hardness of our hearts that comes from years of not trusting, making sinful choices and being hurt along the way. Jesus is ready to fill you with the living water of the Holy Spirit today. He is reaching out to you. Ask him to fill your heart and change your life. A simple conversation will make all the difference. Prayer: Jesus, thank you for welcoming me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and change me. Amen. May God bless you and Mary keep you and your families always. May we remember to always do things for the greater glory of God. St. Ignatius Loyola, pray for us! Fr. This water is the Holy Spirit.

This waxy substance will be quickly absorbed into her skin after she is born. She can now respond to sound. Her lungs are fairly well developed and she would stand a good chance of survival if born at this time. Each day for nine months, say this prayer for your Spiritually adopted baby: Lord Jesus, today I lift up in prayer the life of my spiritually adopted pre-born child. I ask that you protect and shield this child from all harm. Mary and Joseph, I ask your intercession for the parents of this child, that God would shower His love and mercy upon them, and guide them that at this difficult time. 11 COMUNIDAD HISPANA ESCUCHEMOS HOY, LA VOZ DEL SEÑOR Boletín: 135 Quién de nosotros no le teme y huye a la soledad, a la tristeza, al vacío, al sufrimiento y dolor? Quién no anhela ser feliz? Diariamente, incluso sin ser conscientes de ello, nos vemos impulsados por ese anhelo de felicidad que nos lanza a buscar incesantemente por aquí y por allá, probando de esto o lo otro, para encontrar aquella fuente en la que podamos apagar nuestra sed de felicidad. Todos nosotros podemos reconocer en este ir y venir de la samaritana al pozo en busca de un poco de agua, cómo en nuestra propia vida buscamos incesantemente un agua que apague una sed profunda, nuestra sed de felicidad. Pero una cosa es saciar esa sed definitivamente y otra calmarla de momento. Muchos creen que van a resolver su sed de felicidad como la samaritana: llenando su vida, su vacío interior, su anhelo de ser felices, con la compañía, la seguridad, el afecto o incluso la satisfacción sensual que le producen ciertas relaciones. Si no encuentran agua en un pozo y fracasan, buscarán saciar su sed en otro pozo. Así andan de pozo en pozo, sin saber cómo resolver verdaderamente esa sed de felicidad. No hacen sino vivir llenando vacíos y tapando huecos de día en día, procurando llenar ese vacío de infinito con experiencias que lejos de apagar la sed la agudizan cada vez más, la hacen cada vez más cruel. Cómo saciar definitivamente mi sed de felicidad? Cristo nos invita a acudir a Él. Él no solo tiene la respuesta: Él es La Respuesta! Sí, el Señor Jesús nos permite comprender el origen de esta sed así como también el modo de saciarla definitivamente: «el que beba del agua que yo le dé, no tendrá sed jamás». Y es que la sed de felicidad que experimenta todo ser humano, que experimentamos tú y yo en lo más profundo de nuestro ser, es en realidad una sed de Dios, y como tal, no podrá ser saciada finalmente sino solamente por Él. En este acudir a Cristo no se trata de renunciar a las fuentes de alegría de las que Dios lícitamente ha querido que gocemos en nuestro terreno peregrinar.
