This core subject provides students with knowledge of contemporary Spanish literature through a selection of texts, addressing their social and discursive practices and their cultural connections. 2 OUTCOMES G.Estudios Hispánicos - Knowledge of literature and theatre in the Spanish language. - Knowledge of the historic evolution of literature and theatre in the Spanish language. - Familiarity with techniques and methods of analysis of literary and non-literary texts and how they are applied to the Spanish language. - The ability to create correct and proper oral and written texts of different kinds. - The ability to make a critical judgement of the style of a text and make alternative proposals. - The ability to identify problems and subjects for research and assess their importance in the field of Spanish language, literature and theatre. - Students must have acquired knowledge and understanding in a specific field of study, on the basis of general secondary education and at a level that includes mainly knowledge drawn from advanced textbooks, but also some cutting-edge knowledge in their field of study. - Students must have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (usually in their field of study) to make judgements that take relevant social, scientific or ethical issues into consideration. - Students must be able to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both expert and lay audiences. - Students must have developed the learning skills needed to undertake further study with a high degree of autonomy. - Have a knowledge of and apply approaches and methodologies in literary theory and criticism. - Demostrar un compromiso ético en el ámbito filológico, centrándose en aspectos tales como la igualdad de géneros, la igualdad de oportunidades, los valores de la cultura de la paz y los valores democráticos y los problemas medioambientales y de sostenibilidad así como el conocimiento y la apreciación de la diversidad lingüística y la multiculturalidad. - Trabajar en equipo en entornos relacionados con la filología y desarrollar relaciones interpersonales. - Work and learn autonomously, and plan and manage ones workload. The legitimation of the novel as a modern genre. Romanticism and romanticisms: evolution and trends. The narrative genres of Romanticism: the narrative poem, the fantastic tale (a study of fantastic tales of the 19th century; see Bibliography), the historical novel. The foundations of a realistic poetics in Romanticism: the psychological novel and the novel of manners. 2. European Realism The origins of European Realism. The historical causes of Spanish Realism. The battle around realistic poetics and alternative poetics. The thesis novel: Galdós and Doña Perfecta. Novel and history in Realism: Los Episodios Nacionales. A study of El 19 de marzo and El 2 de mayo. Flaubert and the transition towards Naturalism: Madame Bovary. 3. The naturalist movement The special character of Spanish Naturalism. The former consist in lectures on the thematic units and analysis of the compulsory readings. The latter will include students active participation a) Trabajo comparativo sobre un tema elegido. b) Comentario de texto narrativo breve (cuento). c) Reseña crítica de artículos científicos o de capítulos de libro. Los criterios para la elaboración del trabajo se detallarán al comienzo del curso. Plazo final de entrega: 30 de abril de EVALUATION La calificación final será la suma de las calificaciones parciales obtenidas en virtud de los siguientes conceptos, descritos en puntos y porcentajes: Actividad evaluada Puntos % 1. 5 Las actividades evaluables arriba detalladas serán recuperables en la segunda convocatoria. Por tal motivo, a los estudiantes que se presenten a esta última, con suficiente antelación se les informará sobre qué actividad deberán realizar, siempre en caso de no haber superado alguno de los requisitos previstos en la primera convocatoria. Como medio para la evaluación y la comunicación de los resultados se podrá hacer uso del Aula Virtual. El sistema general de calificaciones seguirá la normativa de la Universitat de València aprobada por el Consell de Govern del día 27 de enero de 2004, en cumplimiento de los RR.
