1 DISEÑO DE UNA ESTACIÓN DE BOMBEO Autor: Ortiz Cachá, Irene Directores: Sanz Fernández, Íñigo Entidad Colaboradora: ICAI - Universidad Pontificia Comillas Introducción El proyecto consiste en la instalación de una estación de bombeo en Fiñana, pueblo del sur de España en la provincia de Almería. Nos hemos inclinado por la realización de este proyecto para resolver un problema producido por la reducción del caudal de la fuente natural que alimentaba la vivienda debido a dos causas principales: el crecimiento de los cultivos bajo plástico en Almería y el aumento de la población, que conllevan, respectivamente, aumentos del consumo agrícola y doméstico. Los dueños de la vivienda acudieron a una empresa de agua, que comprobó que la bomba instalada tenía una antigüedad superior a veinte años y que no generaba suficiente presión para abastecer satisfactoriamente a la vivienda. Metodología y resultados Para la realización del proyecto se ha realizado un estudio de la instalación a abastecer. Tras ver los planos con los que se realizó la construcción del cortijo y la cantidad de personas que convivirán en ella, se llega a la conclusión que la bomba que instalaremos deberá impulsar un caudal de 0.15 m3 h hasta una altura de 9 m. Otra decisión a adoptar se refiere al número de bombas a instalar. Para poder solucionar el problema de presión insuficiente decidimos instalar dos bombas en serie consiguiendo el mismo caudal de aspiración y una altura total que será la suma de las alturas de cada bomba. Como medida de seguridad instalaremos otra rama en paralelo, que entrará en funcionamiento en caso de fallo en la rama principal. En consecuencia, instalaremos un total de 4 bombas.

2 Una vez conocidos el caudal a impulsar, la altura y el número de bombas, el Software ABSEL produce una recomendación de bombas, conociendo su punto de funcionamiento. Con este primer acercamiento nos recomienda las bombas AS0530, AS0630 y AS0830. Para conseguir un valor más exacto calculamos las pérdidas de carga que tendrán lugar en nuestra instalación, a partir de las longitudes y diámetros de las tuberías, las válvulas y los codos. El programa PipeCalc calcula para nuestra instalación unas pérdidas de m, que sumadas a la altura de impulsión que teníamos nos da un valor de 9.544m. Sabiendo la altura total volvemos al programa ABSEL, que esta vez nos recomendará las bombas AS0630 y AS0830, por lo que la bomba AS0530 queda descartada. La elección entre las bombas AS0630 y AS0830 se realizará mediante el Coste de Ciclo de Vida de la bomba. Para ello necesitamos conocer su consumo energético, obtenible mediante el Software ABSEL. El coste energético es igual en ambas bombas, por lo que elegiremos la bomba con menor diámetro, ya que será la bomba que menos cueste, y sus válvulas asociadas también serán más baratas, la bomba AS0630. Una vez determinada la bomba a instalar necesitaremos elegir las válvulas y tuberías necesarias para su funcionamiento. Lo primero que decidiremos es el material del que estarán hechos. Por su bajo precio elegiremos como material el plástico, y de entre los plásticos elegiremos el polipropileno debido a su resistencia a altas temperaturas. Las tuberías las hallaremos en la Tienda de fontanería on-line. Solo cambiaremos las tuberías que están en contacto con las bombas, pues el resto de la instalación está en estado razonable para su utilización. Para determinar la distancia mínima de separación entre bombas para evitar la aparición de turbulencias usamos el Software PSD, que nos indica una separación mínima de 80 cm. Por lo tanto, necesitaremos cuatro metros de cable. Debemos complementar la bomba con las válvulas necesarias para su funcionamiento. Cada bomba para funcionar correctamente necesitará tener dos válvulas asociadas, una de cierre y otra de antirretorno. La válvula de cierre nos permitirá cerrar el flujo de agua de entrada de la bomba; debido a su sencillez elegimos una válvula de mariposa. La válvula antirretorno no permite que el agua fluya en uno de los dos sentidos, así conseguimos proteger a la bomba contra el golpe de ariete. Como válvula antirretorno optamos por la más económica, la válvula de bola. Consecuentemente, instalaremos cuatro válvulas de mariposa y cuatro válvulas de bola.

3 Presupuesto Para la realización del presupuesto se estudiamos el Coste del Ciclo de Vida de la bomba. Realizaremos este estudio a 20 años, en lugar del periodo estándar de 10 años, ya que se refiere a una instalación en una residencia de verano, que solo se usa durante los meses de julio y agosto. En este estudio se tendrán en cuenta los siguientes costes: iniciales, de instalación, energéticos, de operación, de mantenimiento, de tiempo de avería, medioambientales, y de retirada. Estos costes se distribuyen de la siguiente manera: AS 0630 C. inicial 5.388,22 C. de instalación 760 C. energéticos ,35 C. de operación 5.000,00 C. por avería 280,00 C. de mantenimiento C. medioambientales 400 C. de retirada 212,75 TOTAL ,32 En conclusión, el presupuesto total asciende a treinta tres mil seiscientos ochenta y ocho con treinta dos (33.688,32 ).

4 DESIGN OF A PUMPING STATION Author: Ortiz Cachá, Irene Directors: Sanz Fernández, Íñigo Collaborating Entity: ICAI - Universidad Pontificia Comillas Introduction The project consists of the installation of a pumping station in Fiñana, a village in the south of Spain in the province of Almería. We have undertaken this project to resolve a problem originated by the reduced flow of the natural source that fed the housing, stemming from two main causes: the growth of crops under plastic in Almería and the population increase, which in turn produced, respectively, increases in agricultural and domestic consumption. The owners of the house went to a water utility, which checked that the pump installed was more than twenty years old and did not generate enough pressure to supply satisfactorily to the house. Methodology and results For the project we have carried out a study of the installation we want to put together. After examining the plans with the construction of the country house and the number of individuals who inhabited the house at the same time we conclude that the pump installed should supply a flow of 0.15 m3 h to a height of 9 m. Another decision to adopt refers to the number of pumps installed. In order to solve the possible problem of insufficient pressure we decided to install two pumps in series getting the same suction flow and an overall height that is the sum of the heights of each pump. As a safety precaution we install another parallel branch, which comes into operation only in case of failure in the main branch. Consequently, we will install a total of 4 pumps.

5 Once we know the flow to boost, the height and the number of pumps, the Software ABSEL advises of a pump, according to its operating point. With this first approach the Software recommends the pumps AS0530, AS0630 and AS0830. For a more accurate value we calculate the losses that will occur in our facility, by knowing the lengths and diameters of the pipes, valves and elbows. The Software PipeCalc calculates losses of value m for an installation, which, added to the height we had, produces a value of m. Once the total height is known, we return to the Software ABSEL to refine the preliminary calculation; this time the pumps recommend are AS0630 and AS0830 thus, we exclude the pump AS0530 The choice between the pumps AS0630 and AS0830 will be made according to the Life Cycle Cost. For this we need to know their energy consumption, obtainable from the Software ABSEL. The energy cost is the same for both pumps, so we choose the pump with smaller diameter, as it will be the pump with a smaller cost; additionally, the associated valves will also be cheaper hence, we choose the AS0630 pump. Having determined the pump, we will then need to choose the valves and piping required for its functioning. The first thing to decide is the material out of which they are made. Because of its lower cost we choose a plastic material, and among the plastic we will pick polypropylene due to its resistance to high temperatures. We shall find the pumps in the Tienda de fontanería on-line. We will just change the pipes that are in contact with the bombs, keeping the rest of the installation, which is in reasonable condition for use. To determine the minimum separation distance between pumps to prevent the occurrence of turbulence we use the Software PSD, which indicates a minimum separation of 80 cm. Therefore, we will need four meters of cable. We must complement the pump with the valves necessary for operation. To function properly each pump needs two associated valves, a closing valve and a security valve. The closing valve will allow us to close the inlet water flow of the pump; due to its simplicity we chose a throttle valve. The security valve does not allow water to flow in one of the two directions, and protects the pump from water hammer. As a security valve we have opted for the most economical, the ball valve. Consequently we install four throttle valves and four ball valves.

6 Budget For the preparation of the budget we will use the Life Cycle Cost of the pump. We will realize the study in a 20-year period instead of the standard 10-year period, since the facility will operate in a summer residence, which is only used during the months of July and August. In this study, the following costs are taken into account: initial costs, installation costs, energy costs, operation cost, cost of maintenance, cost for fault time, environmental cost, and withdrawal costs. These costs are broken down as follows: AS 0630 Initial costs 5, Installation costs 760 Energy costs 16, Operation cost 5, Mechanical breakdown cost Cost of maintenance 5, Environmental cost Withdrawal costs TOTAL 33, In conclusion, the total budget amounts to thirty-three thousand six hundred and eighty euros, with thirty-two cents ( 33,688.32).
