7 Top seeded debut with wins at Women s BVB in Toronto TORONTO, Canada, July 13, The top seeded women s teams at the Beach Volleyball tournament of the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games debuted with victories at spectacular Chevrolet Beach Volleyball Centre. In Pool B, Brazilians Liliane Maestrini and Carol Maximo dominated Nicaragua s Elia Machado and Lolette Rodriguez without difficulties by 2-0 (21-7, 21-13). Lilian Maestrini said about their debut "I am very happy to be here representing my country. I believe the cheering and the love of the fans is very important. Everyone is very happy for our first victory. The Nicaraguan team played very well, maybe they were a little nervous and anxious, but that's normal. We have played many more competitions than they have, but they didn't give up." Also in a Pool B match, Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro of Costa Rica gave a great battle coming from behind to defeat Francisca Rivas and Pilar Mardones of Chile 2-1 (16-21, 21-14, 15-11). We began un prepared, mostly because we didn t know what to expect from Chile. In the second set we were able to adjust better our timing and focus on what each one of us had to do indicated Alfaro. La dupla de Estados Unidos Larsen/Metter venció a Soler/Molina de El Salvador 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) mientras que Andrea y Claudia Galindo de Colombia derrotaron a las guatemaltecas Orellana/Recinos 2-0 (21-14, 21-15). Larsen habló del triunfo seguiremos trabajando, hemos entrenado todo el verano en nuestro servicio y pase, lo cual es lo más importante del juego y lo seguiremos haciendo. Betsi jugó muy bien, disfrutamos jugar en frente del público y en una gran sede. 16 Solid performance in opening day of Men s BVB in Toronto TORONTO, Canada, July 13, The winners in the men s division of the Beach Volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games in Toronto had a solid performance in opening day at the Chevrolet Beach Volleyball Centre. Chilean Cousins Marcos and Esteban Grimalt in Pool D, prevailed over Carlos Talavera and David Vargas of El Salvador 2-0 (21-18, 21-12). About his level of play, Esteban Grimalt expressed "It's a lot of work, effort and perseverance; we have had a lot of support from Chilean institutions. In the past year we have played the most important and challenging tournaments in the world and this has given us a lot of international experience." In Pool B, Alvaro Morais and Victor Felipe of Brazil defeated in 43 minutes a Eargenell De Cuba and Daniel Mitchel of Aruba in straight sets 21-10, "We are just concentrating on the present and taking one step at a time. Next game is with Venezuela and that will be what we will concentrate on next said Morais. Mexican Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen also in Pool B struggled mostly in the second set to overcome a deficit against Jackson Henriquez and Jesus Villafañe of Venezuela; they finally took their first win 21-15, "Winning all the games is important, our group is very strong and Venezuela is one of the strongest opponents in the Pan Am Games. We won but we need to polish some details that harmed us in the second set said Juan Virgen. Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez of Cuba in Pool C beat 2-0 (21-19, 21-12) Argentina s Ian Mehamed and Nicolas Capogrosso after a well disputed first set.
