2 VI Edición Julio th Edition July 2011 Derechos humanos, sostenibilidad y democracia en Europa Human Rights, Sustainability and Democracy in Europe From June 24 July 6, 2012 The NetherlandsBelgiumGermanyFranceLuxembourg Alfonso X El Sabio University, in cooperation with Berg International Relations Institute is organizing the 6 th Edition of the Human Rights and International Relations Summer Programme titled Human Rights, Sustainability and Democracy in Europe, July The programme will be held between June 24 th and July 6 th at the European Academy of Otzenhausen (SaarbrückenGermany) through different institutional visits to The Hague (the Netherlands), Belgium (Brussels), Germany (TrierOtzenhausen) Luxembourg and France (Strasbourg). This Otzenhausen Summer Academy on Human Rights and International Relations programme was founded in 2003 by Dr/Professor Emiliano García Coso JD, lecturer at the Universidad Pontificia ComillasICADE, and Professor Joaquín González Ibáñez JD at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid, with the aim of providing a perspective on Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Democracy into the European integration process. The programme offers an extraordinary opportunity for both pupils and professors from Europe and America, to get closer to the history and European legal evolution within the area of human rights during late 90 s; from the First World War to our days, including debates and visits to the most relevant European legal institutions, such as the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights of the Council of Europe. The programme also offers the opportunity to experience historical places first hand, such as the Maginot Line, built during the First World War, or the concentration camp at NatzweilerStruthof, from the Second World War, as well as the major/key/fundamental legal institutions of the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights, together with the European Union institutions such as the Parliament, the Commission and the Court of Justice of the European Union. 2

3 Spanish will be the working language during the programme. Whenever lecturers present their conferences either in English or French, these will be simultaneously interpreted into Spanish. This programme has generated an important forum for debate, enhanced awareness, and the defence of human rights. It is one of the most renowned summer programmes for those interested in the field of international relations and human rights. The price of the program includes the presentation of a diploma, as well as lodging (8 nights), complete catering for 9 days and transportation by bus through Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, frances and Germany during the 13 days of the program. To Know the type of lodging, catering and situation, please consult The participants in the Academic Program of Otzenhausen come from different countries from Latin America and from different provinces and cities in Spain. The student participating in the program must organize and personally carry out their bookings and journey program (aerial transportation, train or automobile, etc.) to La Haya (where the course will begin) so as to arrive on Sunday, July 10 th, 2011 so as to make reservations and accreditations for the course. The airports closest to The Hague are The HagueAmsterdamSchiphol, and Rotterdam airport. The course will end on july 22 nd 2011, on Friday, and there will be a bus to transport the students to Frankfurt International airport.
