Knowledge and understanding to provide a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and app ideas, often within a research context. CB7. That students can apply their knowledge and ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field d'study. Specific: 1. The ability to design, develop and apply, in an integrated and coordinated manner, the theories and analytical techniques of the social, economic and Earth sciences, as well as management and research-action techniques and approaches based on sustainability science and technology in the fields of biodiversity and natural resources, the built environment and services, and production systems and information. 3. The ability to apply knowledge of societies' evolution, their impact on the environment, urban transition and the principal defining characteristics of present-day societies, as well as techniques and lessons related to socioenvironmental conflict. 2. The ability to coordinate, plan, develop and assess sustainable development programmes and sustainability strategies by identifying and fostering the capacities of participants, and considering the local, national, European and international organisations, strategies and policies involved. CE11. The ability to develop advanced approaches to analysing and assessing the sustainability of the built environment, including buildings, infrastructure and transport, which minimise their impact, and to choose the most appropriate options in agreement with one or more of the economic, social and environmental principles of sustainability. Generical: CG03. The ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize, critically, new and complex ideas and promote, within academic and professional, scientific, technological, social or cultural knowledge society contexts. CG04. Describe, resolve, prevent and / or alleviate the problems and dysfunctions associated with the processes of development of environmental socio-economic systems with their own approaches to science and technologies of sustainability. Transversal: CT3. TEAMWORK: Being able to work in an interdisciplinary team, whether as a member or as a leader, with the aim of contributing to projects pragmatically and responsibly and making commitments in view of the resources that are available. 3 Content (ENG) 1. Introducción. Evolución de la relación sociedad con su entorno. Transición hacia una sociedad urbana y tecnológica. Impactos y crisis ambiental. Learning time: 4h (ENG) Historia de la ecología humana. Impactos socioambientales y metabolismo social. Las raíces de la crisis ambiental global. Principales discursos y modelos para gestionarlos. La sociedad actual: globalización, polarización, sostenibilidad, sociedad de la información, nueva economía. (ENG) Actividad 1: Lecturas y comentarios de artículos sobre la sociedad actual. (ENG) Comprender la evolución histórica de las interacciones entre las sociedades y su entorno hasta la actualidad, en base a los cambios tecnológicos y culturales que se han ido produciendo. Analizar las relaciones entre el modelo económico de las sociedades modernas y las raíces del deterioro social y ambiental. (ENG) 2. Dinámicas demográficas y su análisis territorial. Learning time: 4h (ENG) Dinámicas demográficas: evolución, proyecciones, estructura y distribución territorial. Fenómenos migratorios, desigualdades sociales y regionales. (ENG) Actividad 2: Análisis demográfico (ENG) Conocer las fuentes de provisión de datos demográficos y socioeconómicos. Realizar análisis estadístico básico y profundizar en la técnicas de interpretación de datos cuantitativos. 3 / 7
4 (ENG) 3. Caracterización de los conflictos socioterritoriales. Origen y temáticas. Actores, acción colectiva, movimientos reivindicativos. Discursos y argumentos. Learning time: 10h (ENG) Principales características y el contexto en el que se gestan y desarrollan los conflictos socio-territoriales actuales. Descripción y metodologías de análisis de los actores implicados, sus objetivos, roles, posicionamientos y sus formas de acción colectiva. Discursos, argumentos y valores sobre: calidad de vida, consciencia ambiental, paisaje, justicia social, identidad local, pertinencia y apropiación del lugar. Gestión de los conflictos: negociación, concertación y participación. (ENG) Actividad 3: Análisis de un conflicto socioterritorial. (ENG) Comprender el contexto en el que actualmente surgen los conflictos socioterritoriales como confrontación entre modelos de desarrollo territorial, valores ambientales, distribución desigual de los impactos en la sociedad. Realizar análisis institucionales en el marco de los conflictos territoriales, reconocer el papel y la fuerza de los movimientos reivindicativos. Facilitar las herramientas para caracterizar un conflicto socio-territorial y ser capaz de valorar estrategias para su gestión. (ENG) 4. Percepción ambiental del riesgo, vulnerabilidad e incertidumbre. Learning time: 10h (ENG) Exponer los diferentes elementos que componen el riesgo ambiental. La vulnerabilidad social y la incertidumbre. Factores que intervienen en la percepción social del riesgo. Estrategias de adaptación frente los riesgos en el litoral. (ENG) Actividad 3 (ENG) Comprender los procesos que influyen en la percepción del riesgo y los aspectos institucionales, sociales y de planificación y gestión del riesgo que amplifican o reducen el riesgo. 4 / 7
5 (ENG) 5. La gobernanza y la participación social en la intervención pública. Learning time: 10h (ENG) La participación y la implicación de las comunidades locales en la planificación urbana y gestión de sus espacios. Antecedentes de la participación ciudadana. De Rio 92 al reconocimiento normativo. El concepto de participación y criterios para una participación de calidad. Análisis institucional y modelos de gobernanza en la intervención urbana. Técnicas y experiencias participativas. La diagnosis participativa: diálogo entre proceso técnico y el participativo. Barreras y oportunidades de la participación. (ENG) Actividad 4: Evaluación de una experiencia participativa (ENG) Conocer el contexto social y político en el que se encuadra el discurso de la participación y sus antecedentes. Comprender las diferentes fases de un proceso participativo y las principales técnicas utilizadas. Ser capaces de realizar un mapa de actores y el correspondiente análisis del marco institucional. Facilitar criterios para comprender y valorar de forma crítica las prácticas participativas en la política pública. (ENG) 6. Recursos e instrumentos de las ciencias sociales. Métodos cuantitativos y cualitativos. Learning time: 4h Guided activities: 4h (ENG) A lo largo del curso se presentan herramientas metodológicas propias de las ciencias sociales (Encuestas, entrevistas, talleres, observación participante) y su aplicación en el análisis de conflictos territoriales, procesos de intervención urbana y territorial. (ENG) Conocer el abanico de herramientas de las ciencias sociales y su potencial de aplicación para abordar problemas de sostenibilidad urbana y territorial. 5 / 7
