What s New Beginning August 17, 2014? Route 302 weekday: Route 303 weekday: Route 306 all days: Route 309 weekday: Route 311 weekday: Route 323 weekday: Route 331 (NEW): School-day trip from Thunder Dr./Vista Way to Vista will depart at 6:35 am Tuesday through Friday. In the afternoon, the school day trip departing from Vista at 3:06 p.m. to Thunder/Vista Way is discontinued. School-day trips have been adjusted in conjunction with bell time changes at Oceanside High School. The northbound Main/Ammunition timepoint has been removed from the schedule to improve schedule reliability. School-day trips serving Sage Creek High School will start and end at Cannon Rd./ College Blvd. and not serve Plaza Camino Real. The afternoon trip will operate to Encinitas Station. Have adjusted afternoon school-day trip in p.m. for Monday early release day at M.L. King Middle School. Trip departs Rancho Del Oro Station at 1:10 p.m. Have extended school-trips to serve Sage Creek High School in addition to Carlsbad High School and adjusted schedule. This is a new weekday-only small bus route that will operate for a one-year demonstration period. It will operate between Buena Creek SPRINTER Station and Melrose Dr./Park Drive, serving University Dr./Kaplan College (replaces BREEZE 332 service) and the Vista Business Park. Route 332 weekday: Route 347 weekday: BREEZE Rapid 350 weekend: Route 392 weekday: Routing and schedule have been adjusted and route will be operated with standard buses to alleviate overcrowding issues. Kaplan College/University Dr. to be served by new BREEZE 331. Service frequency between Vista and Buena Creek Station will be every 22 minutes in peak hours and every 30 minutes during the midday. Additional peak trips will be operated between Vista and Longhorn Drive, resulting in an overall 11-minute service frequency southbound in the a.m. and northbound in the p.m. Route to be operated with small buses. Extra units will be operated between the SPRINTER station and Craven Circle at 7:51 a.m. and 8:51 a.m. to provide sufficient seating capacity. Adjust 6:34 a.m. departure from Del Lago to 6:26 a.m., and adjust 6:58 a.m. southbound trip from Escondido to 6:52 a.m. to facilitate connections with MTS Rapid 235 at Del Lago. Former 7:35 a.m. trip departing Oceanside adjusted to 7:40 a.m. for passengers transferring from COASTER. What Services Does North County District Provide? COASTER Commuter rail travels between Oceanside and San Diego. 8 station stops, 60 minutes to complete full length of one-way trip. Spring/Summer schedule, April thru September (Padres/late night weekend service). Fall/Winter schedule, October thru March (reduced weekend evening hours). LIFT Paratransit ADA (American Disabilities Act) transportation Curb-to-curb service available to people with qualifying disabilities who live within ¾ of a mile of a bus route and have difficulty accessing public transportation. Fare Categories Adult All passengers except those who meet the qualifications for youth, senior, disabled fare categories. No identification is required for adult fares. Youth Ages 6-18 (Children 5 under are free). Youth fares are in effect at all times. Appropriate ID must be shown. School-issued picture ID cards are acceptable. Youth (6-18yrs) are eligible for reduced fare Monthly passes, however, when purchasing COASTER tickets or Region Plus Day pass, youth pay Adult fare. Senior/Disabled/Medicare Any person who meets NCTD disability requirements, presents a valid Medicare card, or seniors age 60 or above are eligible for a discounted fare on all NCTD fixed-route services. Medi-Cal cards will not be accepted. Passengers must show appropriate ID to receive the discounted fare. See Reduced fare section for detailed information. Classroom Day Pass Program The Classroom Day Pass program offers discounted rates for students in preschool through age 18. Trips must be booked two weeks in advance and one chaperone is required for every five students. Minimum group must include at least 12 participants. Ticket and Pass Tips BREEZE Bus Fare Box NCTD uses fareboxes in all buses. The electronic fareboxes will accept coins, cash and valid Compass Cards. Rather than showing your pass to the driver, you will tap your Compass Card on the farebox Compass Card symbol. For cash fares, please use exact fare only. No change will be issued from either the farebox or the driver. To avoid delays, use quarters instead of smaller coins. In NCTD service area, MTS bus tokens are accepted in bus farebox only. (1) token is valid for one trip, (2) MTS tokens receive $5.00 Regional Day Pass. Note: TOKEN ADVISORY As of July 1, 2013, MTS no longer sells tokens. Passes may be loaded, re-loaded, and cards may be checked to view pass expiration by selecting check Compass Card info. Check out Current promotions option to view and purchase current special fares. Fare facts: Vending-machine tickets must to be used same day of purchase. Maximum change returned from ticket vending machines (TVM) - $10. No refunds or exchanges. Please check schedule prior to purchase. Use small bills, MasterCard, Visa, debit or credit. Benefit cards are welcome. Split payment options for purchases may only be made at NCTD or MTS customer service centers. NO pennies or tokens accepted at ticket vending machines. Passes on Compass Cards Almost all transit passes may only be purchased on a Compass Card, a reusable plastic smart card that can be reloaded every month. A $2 administration fee is charged for your first card. Just Tap Ride! Passes may be purchased at ticket vending machines, NCTD customer service centers, The MTS Store, Albertsons stores, online at 511sd.com/compass, or to charge by phone call 511 and say Compass and speak to a representative. For 511 online and phone Compass Card orders, please allow up to 7 business days for processing the first card and 72 hours for reloads. Two pass term choices: Monthly Pass - Valid from the first day to the last day of the month. On sale between the 20th and 14th of each month. 30-Day Pass - Valid for 30 consecutive days from the day of purchase. These are sold at any time. Using Your Compass Card Before boarding SPRINTER, COASTER or MTS Trolley, tap the card flat on the platform s validator. The validator will confirm by beeping and displaying Thank you. Tap your card every time you transfer to a new train or bus. To board any BREEZE or MTS Bus, tap the card flat on the farebox near the driver. A beep will confirm the card is valid. No refunds are available for unused tickets or monthly passes. Please do not bend or punch a hole in your Compass Card. How Do I Protect My Card? Register! Register your Compass Card by calling 511 and saying Compass at the prompt or complete the registration form and submit at any NCTD customer service center. If a registered card is lost, stolen or damaged, the remaining value will be transferred to a new card. First replacements are free. Reduced-Fare Identification Do you qualify for a senior, disabled, or youth discounted fare? If so, you must show proper ID each time you board the bus or train. You must also show proper ID to purchase discounted passes at Albertsons or NCTD customer service centers. Once you are issued your first reduced fare Compass Card, you may reload at any ticket vending machine, online at 511sd.com/compass, or to charge by phone call 511 and say Compass and speak to a representative. If you do not have proper ID with you, you will be required to pay the full Adult fare even if you have a discounted pass. Below are forms of ID accepted on the bus for discounted fares: Disabled: NCTD-issued disabled ID card; LIFT paratransit ID card - see pgs. 49-51; Medicare card; MTS-issued disabled ID cards. Senior (60 years or older): NCTD-issued senior ID card; CA driver s license or ID card; Medicare card; MTS-issued senior ID Card. Medicare Card: Any person who displays a valid Medicare card is eligible for discounted fare on all NCTD fixed-route services. Passengers must show their Medicare card each time they board a bus to receive the discounted fare. Youth (ages 6-18): NCTD-issued youth ID card; school-issued picture ID; birth certificate or any ID displaying birthday. Reduced Fare Photo ID and Monthly Pass Compass Card Medicare Card First reduced-fare Identification is free. Replacements for lost/ stolen is $7.00. How to apply: 1. Call (760) 966-6500 to receive an application via mail or pick up an application at any customer service center or download application online: GoNCTD.com/reduced_fare 2. You complete Section 1 (contact information), Section 2 will be completed by a qualified licensed healthcare professional. For these applicants, you will drop off your completed application and a staff person will call to verify information. Please allow 7-10 days for processing. Do you collect SSI or have a Medicare card? For SSI recipients and Medicare card holders, bring into a customer service center either your current SSI award letter (issued within 6 months) or bank statement displaying direct deposit from SSI or your Medicare card and complete only Section 1. You will not need to complete Section 2 with these forms of eligibility. 3. Once your information is verified, you will receive your ID at time of photo. You may choose between an NCTD reduced-fare ID or our new Photo/Compass Card, which combines your ID and your monthly pass to one card. Rules of Riding Welcome aboard! Please follow these basic rules to make the trip enjoyable for all. Subject to change. Customers who violate these regulations may be subject to ticket confiscation, citation, removal from the vehicle, and/or a fine per Penal Code Section 640 and 587. Alcohol: No open containers permitted on SPRINTER, BREEZE, LIFT or FLEX. Open containers are permitted to those of the legal age and must have in their possession a valid identification on COASTER only between 5:15 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Possession of an open container of alcohol or consumption of alcohol is prohibited on the COASTER after 9:00 p.m. Violations could result in a citation under California Public Utilities Code 99170(a)(6). Attire: Shirts and shoes required at all times. Behavior: Do not disrupt train conductors or bus operators. No loud, profane, threatening or disruptive speech. Violations could result in a citation under California Penal Code 640(d)(1) and or California Public Utilities Code 99170(a)(2) Bikes: Allowed on all modes in specific areas. See pg. 27 for details. Boarding: Be prepared to board and disembark promptly. Always stand behind the yellow line on train platforms. Buses only stop at designated NCTD stops. Cell Phones: Be considerate by keeping calls brief and quiet. Children: Must be supervised. Babies must be removed from strollers and held securely. Doors: Do not lean on, block or hold open doorways. Violations could result in a citation under California Penal Code 640(d)(5) and a fine up to $500 as well as exclusion form the transit system. Drinking and eating: NOT allowed on SPRINTER, BREEZE, LIFT or FLEX, but food is allowed in closed containers. Allowed on the COASTER - please respect the area for other passengers. Dispose of your waste items in the proper receptacles or take your items with you. Sunflower seeds and peanuts shells shall not be left on the floor. Violations could result in dismissal from train service for the trip. Hazardous Materials: With the exception of oxygen for personal medical use, materials considered as hazardous by the U.S. Department of Transportation are not permitted on trains or buses. Loitering: No person shall loiter about NCTD Facilities and Vehicles without authorization of NCTD.
