CONSEJOS GENERALES 1. Un Proyecto Marie Curie debe responder específicamente a los criterios de evaluación. 2. La estructura y organización general de la propuesta viene determinada en las instrucciones. 3. Aunque se permite el uso de otras lenguas, los evaluadores esperan proyectos en Inglés. 4. Los límites de espacio, márgenes y tamaños de fuente para cada sección se deben respetar escrupulosamente. 5. El sumario debe delinear claramente el contenido y objetivos generales de la propuesta. Debe ser atractivo y no excesivamente técnico.
Importancia General del Proyecto Definición del Problema The plant vacuoles are responsible for the transport and accumulation of nutrients, carbohydrates and storage proteins, and their function directly impacts plant yield and nutritional value. Although components of the trafficking machinery to lytic vacuoles are well defined and appear to be conserved in yeast and multicellular eukaryotes, very little is known about the cellular machinery and regulatory mechanisms required for transport of vacuolar soluble proteins to the Plant Vacuole. Soluciones Propuestas.Uso de nuevas tecnologías We will use a systems biology approach that combines computational tools (algorithm development), analytical tools (Proteomics), and a set of biological tools from the biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology fields (Classical genetics, microscopy, and molecular biology) to identify machineries involved in the process Beneficios de la investigación para la UE The basic knowledge derived from this research will allow the design of experimental approaches aimed at improving biomass, production yield, and fitness through the enhancement of various vacuolar reserves in crops of economical interest.

Strengths: This proposal represents high-quality research in fundamental molecular biology of plant cell vacuolar trafficking. Strong interdisciplinary aspects are described including molecular biology, proteomics and plant cell biology. The research methodology is state-of-the-art. The project would be innovative in an area of cell biology where fundamental knowledge is lacking. Research in the field is well described. The timeliness and relevance of the project to plant science are well described. Weaknesses: The proposal is restricted to work with a model plant and the description of possible extensions to other plant species is vague and speculative. This places any application of this research on a far longer time scale than with the highly practical work of the host institute in Europe.

Strengths: The Researcher has extensive post-doctoral experience of cutting edge techniques that are essential to the proposed research. The project would introduce new scientific expertise into the host European institute. The Researcher will bring novel genetic and molecular resources to the host group. Weaknesses: A number of laboratory techniques for knowledge transfer are listed but is not clear whether these are new to the host group or host institute or the European research community and their novelty is not established in the proposal.

Strengths: Ph.D. in plant molecular biology and demonstrated technical capabilities in cell biology. 12 publications in international journals. Five years post-doctoral experience in the Third Country. Communication of research findings at international conferences and meetings. Wide range of teaching and supervisory experience. Weaknesses: The nature of the Researcher s conference contributions is not clearly identified as oral or poster presentations. Clear evidence for the Researcher s independent thinking and leadership qualities is not presented in the proposal.

Strengths: The infrastructure and facilities of the host are highly suitable for supporting the project. The host institute has European research collaborations. Practical arrangements for the implementation and management of the scientific project are described. A detailed work plan is included in the proposal. Practical and administrative arrangements for the hosting of the researcher are outlined. Weaknesses: No risk analysis is presented for problems arising from delays in completing individual work packages. The host group lists a number of collaborators but does not provide details of the work involved or of the relationship to the implementation of the project. No IPR strategy is presented despite the close connections of the host group to agribusiness.

Strengths: The project would expand present collaborations between the host institute and the Third Country. A successful project would make a significant contribution to European excellence in plant molecular biology. The benefits of the mobility to the Researcher and to the European Research Area are clearly presented. Outreach activities are described in detail. Weaknesses: The maximal benefit of the mobility to the European Research Area depends on the Researcher or host institute developing ties with commercial agriculture but no clear roadmap for this important goal is presented.
