5 The Buzz Red Ribbon Week Celebration Red Ribbon Week was celebrated with special activities enjoyed by the students and staff of HFCS. This year s theme for Red Ribbon Week was YOLO You Only Live Once! Officer Joel Vargas of the Bensenville Police Department kicked off the festivities with a presentation to students about how the YOLO theme stresses the importance of staying away from drugs and other risky behaviors. Throughout the week, there was a daily reflection on the life of a saint who through their dedication to Christ embodied the YOLO theme. Office Vargas and Deputy Chief Dooley joined us on Friday for our culminating activities, which included announcing contest winners. Each class participated in a door decorating contest, interpreting the YOLO theme in a unique and creative way. The 5th grade took the prize for their design incorporating emojis to express their dreams about what they want to become. The 2nd grade won a prize for collecting the greatest number of non-perishable food items for the Bensenville and St. Joseph s food pantries. Perhaps the most exciting event of the week was the staff vs. 8th grade volleyball game. What a match! Both teams won a game, but the 8th graders reigned victorious when they defeated the staff in the 3rd game. Many thanks to Fr. Josh who helped the staff hold their own against the skilled students. Tuition Transfer Grant Program $1,500 off of Tuition to Transfer Students* Holy Family Catholic School is pleased to offer a Tuition Transfer Grant to any parishioner who transfers their child into grades 1-7 from any private*, public, charter or home school. This two-year grant, $1,000 in year one and $500 in year two, will be applied to offset the current school tuition. For more information and a tour, please call our principal, Linda Kelly, at *Students transferring from another Catholic school within the Diocese of Joliet are not eligible. Veterans Day Prayer Service All are invited to our Veterans Day Prayer Service on Thursday, Nov. 10th at 1:00pm in the St. Charles Borromeo Church. Mrs. Turkowski, Ms. DelMastro, and their classes have been preparing a special tribute in honor of all who serve and have served to protect our rights and freedom. Please join us for scripture readings, song, and prayer. Buddies Form New Friendships The Preschoolers were in store for a special treat when the 7th Grade class came down to the preschool room to read to them in the afternoon. The 7th Grade students read a variety of Halloween stories to the delight of their preschool buddies. Both the preschoolers and the 7th Graders loved interacting with each other, enjoying a snack and making a new friend. They look forward to their next activity together in the near future! TODAY! 6 Around the Parish S t. Joseph Church will hold a Memorial Prayer Service on Monday, November 14, at 7 PM. For all parishioners who died from November 1, 2015 to November 1, Your family, relatives and friends are invited to attend to pray for your recently departed love one. Thank you, Sister Helen All Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers. Please pick up in the Sacristy a copy of a guide to your ministry. Please read it in preparation for our meetings. There will be a meeting on November 12 th for all Eucharistic Ministers at 10am in the Church. On November 19 th there will be a meeting for all Lectors in the Church at 10am. Pray that this will be a time of renewal and rededication of your role in the celebration of the Eucharist. W e know that St Joseph was the foster father of Jesus and the husband of the Virgin mother Mary. Did you know that he is represented by the Spikenard which is a flower you will find in pictures with him, as well as representing him in other places like the coat of arms of popes and other pieces of art. Like Mary, St Joseph is also a patron of the Americas along with other countries, regions, and cities. He is the patron of travelers, expectant mothers, immigrants, laborers, carpenters, craftsmen, engineers, home sellers and buyers, fathers, the family and the universal church. We are truly represented by the patron of our parish. INFANT MEMORIAL MASS: All families and individuals are welcome to attend this Mass remembering babies who have been lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, infant death, other pregnancy losses or early childhood death. Joseph Tapella, the Judicial Vicar of the Diocesan Tribunal, and Mrs. Desirée Marciani, the Associate Director of The Office of Family Ministry, will conduct an annulment information seminar, on Saturday, November 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Blanchette Catholic Center. The annulment process will be explained. This day does not start the process but offers a friendly atmosphere to learn what annulment means and what is entailed in the process.
