3 MESSAGE FROM FR. KUROLY Happy New Year! You read it correctly. Happy New Year! As far as I am concerned there are three New Year celebrations each year: the civil one on January 1 st, the parish one each September, and lastly, Advent which begins the new liturgical or Church year. Of the three Advent is my favorite. It is a shame that Advent gets lost in the secular and stressful Christmas Hype. Advent has a flavor all its own. It is a time of excitement and expectation. It not only awaits the yearly celebration of Christ s birth on December 25 th but more importantly looks to prepare us for Christ s return. It s a time of reflection and renewal. Throughout this month, the parish will offer opportunities for all to help us keep Advent and our spiritual lives front and center during such a busy time of year. As the days get shorter and darkness more encompassing Advent reminds us of the true light of the world. The prologue to St. John s Gospel says the light shines in the darkness, and darkness has not overcome it. Moreover, before constant radio and television, computers and video games, evening use to be a time of reflection- pausing as nature went to sleep so to speak. Advent guides us to search out and appreciate the Awaited One who continues to come into our lives and hearts of those who seek him. Try as best as possible this Advent to wait, watch and reflect. December 25 th will come and go as it always does no matter the hype. But try to wait for Christ. Recognize Him in the sacraments, in the scriptures, in His body the Church. Be with Him in the darkness and quiet. Happy Advent Everyone! Fr. Kuroly MENSAJE DEL PADRE KUROLY Feliz Año Nuevo! Usted leyó correctamente. Feliz Año Nuevo!, Hasta donde me concierne hay tres celebraciones de Año Nuevo cada año: el civil, el 1 de enero; el de la parroquia en septiembre; y por último, de Adviento que comienza el nuevo año litúrgico de la Iglesia. De los tres, adviento es mi favorito. Es una vergüenza que el Adviento se pierde en lo secular, y en el estrés del "derroché Navideño". Adviento tiene un sabor propio. Es un momento de emoción y expectativa. No sólo espera la celebración anual del nacimiento de Cristo el 25 de diciembre pero más importante nos prepara para la venida de Cristo. Es un tiempo de reflexión y renovación. A lo largo de este mes, la parroquia ofrecerá oportunidades para todos para ayudarnos a mantener el Adviento y nuestra vida espiritual frontales y central durante un tiempo tan ocupado del año A medida que los días se hacen más cortos y la oscuridad más abarcadora Adviento nos recuerda la verdadera luz del mundo. El prólogo del Evangelio de San Juan dice "la luz brilla en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la vencieron." Debemos reconocer que antes de la radio y la televisión, las computadoras y los videojuegos, la noche era un momento de pausa y reflexión- es como decir, que la naturaleza se fue a dormir. Adviento nos guía a descubrir y apreciar EL Esperado, que continua entrando en las vidas y los corazones de los que le buscan. Este Adviento trate de la mejor manera posible a estar en una disposición de espera, contemplación y reflexión. No importe el derroché que exista, siempre va a ver y venir el 25 de diciembre. Este año pon tu corazón a esperar a Cristo. Reconocer en los sacramentos, en las escrituras, en su cuerpo - la Iglesia. Estar con Él en la oscuridad y el silencio. A Todos, Feliz Adviento! Pd. 4 Parish News & Announcements We will be selling chocolates after Mass, this is to help our youth going to World Youth Day 2016 to pray with Pope Francis during the month of July. Please support our youth! Tuesdays after the 9:30 am mass at Epiphany you are invited to participate in our spiritual formation program Called and Sent (in Spanish) We invite all kids who want to participate in our Christmas play to contact Madre Bendita or pass by the rectory. The play will take place during our Christmas party December 13th Christian Initiation: Do you know a family member or friend who is interested in becoming a Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) inquiry classes will begin in the Fall. The RCIA is also available for those adult Catholics who have not yet received Baptism First Holy Communion or Confirmation. For more information speak to Mother Bendita. All Young Adults are invited to join us every Mondays during advent begining November 30th at 7:00 pm at Saints Peter and Paul Rectory. La obra tomará lugar durante nuestra fiesta navideña el 13 de Diciembre en Santos Pedro y Pablo. Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos: Hay alguien en tu familia, o alguien que conoces que está interesado en convertirse a la Iglesia Católica? El Rito de Iniciación Cristiana es un proceso maravilloso que nuestra parroquia ofrece para los que quieran comenzar el camino de la fe católica, o continuarlo, en el caso de aquellos adultos que todavía no hayan hecho su Bautizo, la Primera Comunión o Confirmación.
