ONLINE REGISTRATION: Minneapolis Community Education is offering online registration at https://minneapolis.ce.eleyo.com/. Here are a few things you will be able to do in this system. 1. Easily browse and register for afterschool classes online. 2. Register multiple family members at the same time. 3. Share a course with friends by email, Twitter or Facebook. 4. Get email confirmation on your registration. 5. Get course reminder emails. 6. Pay for classes with your credit card, checking or savings account. 7. Print receipts and tax statements. 8. See your account balance. Registration Confirmation: The online system will send you an email confirmation when you register and then a reminder before the class starts. Classroom teacher will get weekly updated student lists and know which students are registered to stay late and on which days. You can call Community Education with any other questions at 612.668.2077. Other payment types: Minneapolis Community Education accepts Cash, Checks, or Credit Cards. Please make checks out to Minneapolis Community Education. Buses: Classes end at 5:00pm Buses are boarded at this time. If your student is new or has had a recent stop change, please call Community Education at 612-668-2077 and allow 2-4 weeks for a new stop to be set up. If your student is late getting home from the after school bus call Transportation at 612-668-2300. IMPORTANT: It may take 2-4 weeks to assign your student a new bus stop. YOU MAY NEED TO PICK UP YOUR STUDENT DURING THE FIRST WEEKS OF PROGRAMMING WHILE TRANSPORTATION IS ASSIGNING YOUR STUDENT A STOP. If you have previously had transportation after school it should not take as long to be assigned a stop. Pick-ups: All Parents/Guardians picking up students should be at Loring by 5:00 PM. Monday Class Offerings Grade Level Class Class Description Cost 1-5 Twin Cities Chess Are you the next Grandmaster? This course is for students of all levels to learn the game of chess. It will be ran by the Twin Cities Chess Club; an organization dedicated to meeting the needs of today s chess students. It was started in an effort to foster better relationships between existing chess coaches and the students taking their classes. $40 4-5 AKA Sports 4-5 Book Club Coaches from AKA Sport will lead activities that include sport, recreation and fitness. This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. Do you enjoy reading? Do books entertain, engage, and enlighten you? Once you finish a book are you asking yourself what you will read next? In this class we will learn the fundamentals of basketball, and run some drills and activities that will help perfect your game. Come join us for some great fun making art after school. Students will focus on teamwork and communication as they work together as a unified Step team. Free 2-3 AKA Sports 2-3 Computer Club Coaches from AKA Sport will lead activities that include sport, recreation and fitness. This class is perfect for the child that needs more movement in their lives! Character building, cooperative skills, individual success and safety are all emphasized. Do you like to play on the computer? Join the Loring Computer Club. Each week will be dedicated to a different theme. From playing games, to editing photos and film, to coding. This class will touch the many ways computers are used in the 21 st century. $56 Thursday Class Offerings Grade Level Class Class Description Cost 2-3 Drawing Express what you see, touch, smell, hear and taste every day. Use pencils, charcoal, crayons and pastels to improve you re drawing skills in the studio and in nature. 2-3 Games, Games, Games 5 Code Club from Code Savvy Get back to the basics with games like Checkers, Chess, Puzzles, Connect 4, and Card Games. Class will also include the use of video games that promote physical fitness. Mentors from Code Savvy will help students learn code in a free, fun, open-ended environment. Spring session will introduce students to Scratch, a drag and drop programming language where kids can make games, create animations, tell stories, make music and more. Free

All after school programs conform to the established behavior policies of *School Name Here* and the Citywide Discipline policy of the Minneapolis Public Schools. Students are expected to behave appropriately both during the program and the bus ride home. A student may be asked to take a time out from an activity if he or she is

misbehaving or acting inappropriately. If the problem is severe or persistent (continuing after warning(s) have been given) a note will be sent home with the student and he or she will not be allowed to participate until the note is signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the Community Education office, or until other arrangements are made including the possibility of suspension, in-school suspension, parent conference or loss of after school privileges. If a student is suspended from school they will not be allowed to participate in after school programs during their suspension. Parents are usually notified by phone if we are having problems with their child. All students are given three chances. First referral, we will speak to student. Second referral, we will talk to student along with a call to the parent/guardian. Third referral, they will be removed from the program or bus depending on reason for referrals. Depending on the reason for referral, a student may receive two or three strikes on the first referral. After school programming is not linked with the school health services office. It does not have access to school records (medical information, health plans, IEPs, Section 504 plans, etc.). Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the On-site Coordinator of any special needs or medical conditions that impact their child s health, well-being, or involvement in activities. A conference with the family may be requested in order to determine what reasonable accommodations should be provided. If prescribed or over-the-counter medication must be given while a child is attending after school programming, parents/guardians must complete an authorization form before any medicine will be dispensed. Medication must be in its original packaging or prescription bottle. All medication will be stored on-site in a locked cabinet. Medication is not accessible from the school nurse s office. In the event of cancellations, the Transportation Department notifies schools and schools/program coordinators. ALL schools will be notified of closure by 12:00pm (noon) on the day of the event. For up-to-the-minute school closing and cancellations information, please watch WCCO TV or listen to radio station 830AM WCCO. If you have internet access, you can check the district web site at www.mpls.k12.mn.us We will make every effort to contact you if after school activities are cancelled. Please make sure all your contact information is up to date with our office. *When after school classes are cancelled your child will be sent home on their regular bus at 3:00 pm. If you pick up your child you will need to be here by 3:00 pm. It is very dangerous for a young child to arrive home unexpectedly and not be able to get into his/her home or be at home without supervision. Please have a plan in place for severe weather or cancellations. Participants have the right to change their consent by sending a written request to the program coordinator for the program they are participating in. Before/after school Medication & Treatment Authorization (if applicable) I authorize the Health Services staff to give access to the medication on hand in the health office to the before/after school site coordinator for use as needed. I authorize the Health Services staff to give a copy of the current medication/treatment orders to the site coordinator and share any relevant health information. I authorize the site coordinator to administer this medication/treatment during programming according to the healthcare provider s specified orders. I understand that it is my responsibility to provide the coordinator with any necessary training needed to safely administer this medication/treatment. If the site coordinator has any questions or concerns, he/she may reach me at: and I understand that for emergency situations, 911 will be called. *Please note, final decision on authorization will be determined by health office staff Behavior and Discipline Policy Yes No I understand the expectations for the After School Program are the same as the expectations during school. Photo and Media Release While participating in programming students may be photographed or filmed. These images may appear in newsletters, promotional brochures, on program websites and program materials.
