4 La Fundación Consejo España-India es una entidad privada sin ánimo de lucro que tiene por objeto fomentar el conocimiento mutuo de los dos países, aglutinando los esfuerzos que se despliegan desde los más variados sectores para potenciar los intereses que se proyectan hacia India en los ámbitos científico, tecnológico, de investigación, cultural y académico, e impulsando la cooperación económica, comercial y empresarial desde una plataforma de sociedad civil. The Spain-India Council Foundation is a non-profit private entity which aims to foster mutual understanding between the two countries. It brings together the efforts of a broad range of sectors to promote India-related interests, such as science, technology, research, culture and academy, as well as financial, trade and business cooperation, acting as a civil society platform. 6 7

5 La Fundación Consejo España-India se enmarca en el esquema general de la Red de Fundaciones Consejo, que promueve y apoya el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación con el fin de ampliar y profundizar las relaciones bilaterales con los principales países socios y aliados estratégicos de España, constituyendo una valiosa herramienta de política exterior al servicio de nuestros dos países. The Spain-India Council Foundation is part of the overall framework of the Council Foundations Network, which promotes and supports the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. It aims to extend and deepen bilateral relationships with Spain s major partner nations and strategic allies, representing a valuable foreign policy tool in the service of our two countries. 8 9

It comprises representatives from the highest level of the business, banking, cultural, educational and legal sectors, along with figures from the Spanish Government, Regional Administrations and City Councils interested in bilateral relationships between Spain and India

7 La Fundación está presidida por D. Antonio Escámez, Presidente de la Fundación Banco Santander, su Patronato está integrado por treinta y siete entidades, está coordinada por el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación y forman parte de ella los principales Departamentos Ministeriales económicos, culturales y educativos, garantizando así una coherencia con los intereses de los diversos sectores representados. Nuestros Patronos son los máximos representantes de la España actual, moderna, puntera, competitiva y de alto desarrollo tecnológico. The Foundation is chaired by the President of the Santander Bank Foundation, Mr. Antonio Escámez. Its Board is participated by thirty seven institutions and coordinated by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. The major economic, cultural and educational ministerial departments also form part of the Foundation, ensuring that it acts in harmony with the interests of the various sectors represented. Our Trustees are at the forefront of today s modern, cutting edge, competitive and high-technology Spain

8 La Fundación inició su andadura en 2009, coincidiendo con la histórica Visita de Estado de la Presidenta Pratibha Devisingh Patil a España. Desde entonces ha desarrollado múltiples actividades propias y ha acompañado y apoyado otras iniciativas diseñadas desde el Gobierno, así como eventos y actos oficiales en India y en España. Ha participado, entre otros, en foros de inversión y encuentros empresariales, en actividades culturales, educativas, artísticas y de moda, y ha firmado convenios con entidades privadas y organismos oficiales indios. The Foundation began in 2009, coinciding with the historic State Visit to Spain by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil. Since then, it has developed a range of its own activities and it has accompanied and supported other government-designed initiatives and official events in India and Spain. It has participated in investment forums and business meetings, in cultural, educational, artistic and fashion activities, as well as signing agreements with private institutions and official Indian bodies

9 Esta iniciativa es coherente con la importancia que tiene India como una de las principales potencias globales en el presente siglo. España quiere traducir sus buenas relaciones políticas con India en todos sus aspectos para fomentar las relaciones económicas bilaterales (sectores turístico, energético, deportivo, cultural, jurídico, universitario y de escuelas de negocio, de infraestructuras, etc.), incluyendo los sectores tecnológico y científico, en línea con los intereses de las entidades patrocinadoras de la Fundación e incrementando el conocimiento de la Marca España en India. This initiative is consistent with India s importance as one of this century s major global powers. Spain seeks to translate its sound political relationships with India in all its aspects in order to promote bilateral economic relationships with India (in the tourism, energy, sporting, cultural, legal, university and business school, and infrastructure sectors, to name a few), including the technological and scientific sectors, in line with the interests of the Foundation s sponsoring institutions and increasing awareness of the Spain Brand in India

10 Bienvenida Welcome La Fundación Consejo España-India, cuya andadura se acerca ahora a los tres años, responde a la necesidad de crear, también para India, una plataforma de sociedad civil integrada por empresas, entidades financieras, agentes culturales, Universidades, Escuelas de Negocios, despachos de abogados y consultoras. Son todos ellos, todos nosotros, instancias interesadas en profundizar las relaciones de todo tipo entre España e India en colaboración con las Administraciones Públicas. El Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación coordina e impulsa esta iniciativa que se inscribe en la red de Fundaciones que ese Ministerio tiene establecida con muchos de los principales países con los que España mantiene relaciones privilegiadas. India no podía faltar en este esquema. Así lo hemos entendido los promotores de esta iniciativa que en apenas tres años de vida ya constituye un referente en la colaboración público-privada en beneficio de los intereses de todos los que queremos ver situada nuestra relación en el lugar que se merece. Planteamos este proyecto como una inversión a largo plazo entre dos países milenarios pero jóvenes en la actual escena internacional. Las oportunidades que ofrece India en una gama amplísima de sectores es enorme, y nuestros patronos saben que ni debemos ni podemos permitirnos el lujo de perder la oportunidad que nos abre las actuales condiciones políticas y económicas de este mundo globalizado del siglo XXI

11 Esta iniciativa de largo recorrido y amplio espectro la estamos acometiendo mediante todo tipo de acciones propias de la Fundación y apoyo a las más importantes acciones oficiales. Acompañamos otras iniciativas de entidades que tienen en común con nosotros el interés en India. Agradezco por todo ello la confianza de todos los que se han unido a la Fundación y los que, desde fuera de ella, nos prestan su colaboración. The Spain-India Council Foundation is now approaching three years of existence and continues to respond to the need to create, also for India, a platform of civil society made up of business companies, financial institutions, cultural agents, Universities, Business Schools, lawyers and consultants. They are all, all of us, interested in fostering relations between Spain and India in collaboration with the Public Administrations. We propose this project as a long-term investment between two ancient countries but young at the present stage. The opportunities offered by India in a wide range of sectors is enormous, and our patrons know that neither we nor can we afford to lose the opportunity that opens the current political and economic conditions of the globalized world of the XXI century. This initiative is undertaking a wide range of activities launched by the Foundation, that also supports the most important official events. We support, as well, initiatives of organizations that have in common with us their interest in India. I am thus thankful to all who have joined the Foundation for their confidence and to those who, from outside, lend us their cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation coordinates and promotes this initiative as part of the network of Foundations that the Ministry has established with many of the major countries with which Spain has a special relationship. Vice-president of the FCEI, Mr. Juan María Nin, and President of the FCEI, Mr. Antonio Escámez, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos La Fundación Consejo España-India se enmarca en el esquema general de Fundaciones Consejo que promueve y apoya el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación con el fin de fomentar y profundizar las relaciones bilaterales con un país, como India, que es considerado como fundamental en el esquema general de prioridades de la política exterior española hacia Asia y el Pacífico. Se trata de aglutinar, en una plataforma de sociedad civil, los esfuerzos que se despliegan desde los más variados sectores españoles para promover los intereses, inquietudes y deseos de los ámbitos de actividad que se proyectan hacia la India. Los promotores de la iniciativa (Grupo Santander, La Caixa, Chaincorp y el propio Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación) consideran que una iniciativa de esta naturaleza potenciará, sin duda, dichos intereses en un momento en que India surge como uno de los países emergentes con mayor proyección internacional en estos primeros años del siglo XXI. La Fundación Consejo España-India participa en los contactos de alto nivel y actuaciones más importantes diseñados desde el Gobierno para fomentar las relaciones bilaterales. Entre ellos se encuentran los viajes y las visitas de Estado, los foros de inversión y los encuentros empresariales patrocinados por el ICEX y organizaciones empresariales, las actividades culturales y educativas y el desarrollo de intercambios en 22 23

13 el campo de la ciencia y tecnología, el arte, la gastronomía, el ámbito jurídico y la cinematografía, entre otros. La Fundación, a su vez, promueve iniciativas, contactos y actuaciones que se consideran prioritarias por los propios Patronos que representan el amplio espectro de actividad, pública y privada, para la que se precisa un enfoque coordinado y coherente que sume esfuerzos y englobe voluntades. La Fundación cuenta entre sus miembros destacados representantes de la Administración Central, Autonómica y Local, cuya labor es apoyar los trabajos de la misma y, al tiempo, promover ellos mismos cuantas iniciativas se puedan desarrollar en este marco de actuación general. The Spain-India Council Foundation functions within the general framework of the group of Council Foundations promoted and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, with the aim of promoting and strengthening bilateral relations with foreign countries (in this case India) considered to be of high priority in Spain s foreign policy with respect to Asia and the Pacific. The aim is to bring together, in a single civil society platform, efforts being made across a wide variety of sectors in Spain in order to promote common interests and goals, and to address concerns related to spheres of activities that affect India. The entities promoting this initiative (Grupo Santander, La Caixa, Chaincorp, and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation) believe that an initiative of this nature is sure to provide a boost for these interests at a time when India has taken its place at the beginning of the 21st century as one of the emerging countries with the greatest international impact. The Spain-India Council Foundation participates in high-level contacts and activities of the major importance conceived by the Government to promote bilateral relations. These will include state visits, investment forums and business meetings sponsored by the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and business organizations, cultural and educational activities and the development of exchange programs in fields such as science and technology, art, cuisine, law and cinema. The Foundation also promotes initiatives, contacts, and actions considered to be of high priority by its Trustees, who represent a wide range of both public and private activities. This requires a coordinated and coherent approach, as well as the joint efforts and the motivation of all parties concerned. The Foundation s members include prominent representatives of federal, autonomous, and local government, whose task is to support the work of the Foundation while promoting their own initiatives to be developed within this general framework of action
