3 Important Safety Instructions: Important: Read these instructions thoroughly before using. DANGER -- To reduce the risk of electric shock, serious injury or death: Do not let children play on or near the chair when in use. Serious injury or death could occur if a child is under the chair when the chair is moved from the full lift to the seated position. Disconnect the electrical plug from the wall outlet before cleaning, moving, servicing or when not in use for an extended period of time. Do not use this product if it is wet, in water, around water or any liquid. To prevent suffocation keep plastic bags away from children. Plug directly into a wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord or adapter. -- To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, serious injury or death: Always keep open flame and lit cigarettes away from upholstered furniture. Upholstered furniture may burn rapidly with toxic gas and thick smoke. Closely supervise children and disabled persons using this product. Sit down in the unit slowly. To avoid tip over, do not throw your weight against the back of the unit. Move the unit into or out of the reclining position slowly, making sure that no children or pets are in close proximity. This product has many moving parts, serious injury can occur if not used properly. Keep hands, fingers and body parts away from the mechanism. To reduce the risk of head entrapment and other injuries, keep children and pets away from openings and moving parts in and around furniture. Only the occupant should operate the unit. Never attempt to open the legrest by pulling on it. Do not stand, sit or place extra weight on the arms, back or open legrest. To safely exit the unit and prevent a tripping hazard bring the back upright and close the legrest. Do not use this product if it is damaged. Do not use attachments or substitute components. This product is intended for indoor residential use only. Provide a clear path for operation of the chair, back and legrest. Place tables and area rugs at a distance to allow the legrest to fully extend without rubbing or interference. Check the condition of the power transformers, electrical cords, plugs and connectors monthly. Keep the power transformer and electrical cords away from heat sources. Never operate the unit with a damaged power transformer, electrical cord, plug or connector. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for service. Do not use unit if power control is damaged or wet. Do not use unit if the hand wand has been dropped in water or any liquid. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for service. This product is not intended for use as a health care device. Users of medical devices should contact their health care provider before using this product. Do not use this product if you have poor circulation, are immobile or cannot sense heat, except as directed by your health care provider. Do not use this product where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered. Important Safety Instructions: Important: Read these instructions thoroughly before using. In the event of a power failure the battery backup provided may not lift the user to a fully raised position. In the event of a power failure, if you require a lift to the fully raised position or multiple lifts and recline, a battery backup system may be purchased separately. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for more information. Replace the power transformer batteries every six months and after each power failure use. Do not operate the unit until the back is installed and locked. Before moving the product, disconnect the electrical plug from the wall outlet and secure the mechanism to prevent unexpected opening or movement. Never move the product by the mechanism, legrest, handle, reclining back or swivel base. Do not attempt to disassemble or service the pump or motor. No serviceable parts are inside. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for service information. Do not use detachable warming pad on an infant, an invalid, a sleeping or unconscious person, or a person with poor blood circulation. Doing so may result in burns or possibly death. Burns can occur regardless of control setting, check skin under detachable warming pad frequently. Do not use on areas of insensitive skin. Never remove upholstery cover from detachable warming pad. Do not use the detachable warming pad if it is damaged. Never machine wash or dry; refer to Cleaning Instructions. Do not use pins or other means to fasten the detachable warming pad in place. Do not sit on or crush the detachable warming pad; avoid sharp folds. Never pull or carry the detachable warming pad by the power supply cord. To prevent a tripping hazard, disconnect and store detachable warming pad before exiting the chair. Do not modify the detachable warming pad connectors in any way. The connectors are designed to disconnect easily to prevent injury. The 01L and 1L6 lift chairs are intended for a single occupant, not exceeding 350 pounds. Do not operate the chair with more than one occupant in or on any part of the chair. The 1LH lift chair is intended for a single occupant, not exceeding 500 pounds. Do not operate the chair with more than one occupant in or on any part of the chair. Do not allow electrical cord to be pinched between moving parts or between the frame and the floor. Do not place cord under carpet or in location where it could become worn. Do not use pillow, blanket, or other cover between occupant and chair surface when heat is engaged. Always unplug the power cord before connection or disconnecting the hand wand. Unplug the power cord immediately if you detect strange odors or fumes coming from the chair. 4 Save These Instructions Save These Instructions 5
4 (01L) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner Assembly Instructions: - To reduce the risk of injury: Do not operate the unit until the back is installed and locked. FIGURE 1 (01L) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner Assembly Details: FIGURE 2 1. Install the back. Lay the back across the arms of the body. Lift the back at a slight angle and align the brackets on the back with the brackets on the body (FIGURE 1). Lower the back onto the body, making sure the back and body brackets are completely engaged. To make sure the back is properly installed with both sets of back and body brackets engaged, stand behind the chair and twist the back from side to side. If one or both sides move out of position the brackets are not engaged (FIGURE 2). Remove the back and repeat the steps above. If you are unable to install the back properly contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for assistance. Lock the brackets by using a screwdriver to push down the locking levers (FIGURE 3). Body Bracket Back Bracket Back and body brackets on this side are not engaged. Remove the back and reinstall. - To reduce the risk of serious injury: Check the condition of the power transformers, electrical cords, plugs and connectors monthly. Keep the power transformer and electrical cords away from heat sources. Never operate the unit with a damaged power transformer, electrical cord, plug or connector. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for service. NOTICE: Do not plug the transformer in until instructed. 2. Locate and connect the Power Transformer. Locate the Power Transformer secured to the rear rail. Carefully cut the cable tie and remove the Power Transformer from the rear rail. Remove the packing and unwind the cord. Locate the Motor Extension Wire attached to the rear of the motor (FIGURE 4). Carefully cut the cable tie and unwind the cord. Align the white dot on the Power Transformer connector with the arrow on the Motor Extension connector (FIGURE 5). Push the connectors together until they are secured, with no gaps between them. 3. Attach the outside back upholstery cover. Pull the outside back upholstery cover down tight. Firmly press the fastening tape on the outside back upholstery cover to the fastening tape on the bottom of the rear rail. Do not operate the chair with more than one occupant in or on any part of the chair. Sit down in the unit slowly. To avoid tip over, do not throw your weight against the back of the unit. Move the unit into or out of the reclining position slowly, making sure that no children or pets are in close proximity. To safely exit the unit and prevent a tripping hazard bring the back upright and close the legrest. LIFT (UP) Press and hold the UP button to return the chair to the full-lift position. LIFT (DOWN) Press and hold the DOWN button to lower the chair to the seated position. NOTICE: To prevent product damage operate this chair only when it is upright, setting on its base. Plug in the Power Transformer. Make sure there is enough slack in the cord running from the chair to the outlet to allow for lifting and reclining. Never stretch or strain a cord. Luxury-Lift Power Recliner Operation The hand wand is located in the pocket of the right side sitting arm. Stand beside the chair and press and hold the UP button on the hand wand to raise the chair. Release the UP button when the chair reaches a comfortable height to sit against. Step back into the chair and lean against the seat. Press and hold the DOWN button to lower the chair. Release the button when you reach the seated position. To recline press and hold the DOWN button. Release the button when you reach the desired recline position. To return to the seated position press and hold the UP button. Release the button when you reach the seated position. To raise the chair to a standing position press and hold the UP button. Gradually shift your weight forward as the chair rises. Release the button when the chair reaches a height that enables you to easily stand. Proceed to Battery Backup Safety Instructions (refer to index). Press and hold the UP button to return to the seated position from the reclined position. Press and hold the DOWN button to raise the legrest and recline the chair back. - To reduce the risk of serious injury: Do not use unit if power control is damaged or wet. Do not use unit if the hand wand has been dropped in water or any liquid. 6 (1L6) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner with 6-Motor Massage & Heat Assembly Instructions: (1L6) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner with 6-Motor Massage & Heat Assembly Details: NOTICE: Do not plug the transformer in until instructed. 1. Locate and identify the connectors. Do not connect until instructed. Lay the back across the arms of the body (FIGURE 1). Locate the eight wires with connectors. Four wires come from the lower back, one from the rear of the seat, one from the arm and two from under the seat near the motor (FIGURE 1 and FIGURE 2). The two large round connectors identified with yellow tape are for the Hand Wand connection. The other two large round connectors are for the Lift Motor connection. The two small round connectors are for the Power Supply connection. The two rectangular connectors are for the Massage Motor connection. With the back across the arms of the body, lift the back at a slight angle and align the brackets on the back with the brackets on the body (FIGURE 3). Align the white dots on the Hand Wand connectors. The Hand Wand connectors are identified with yellow tape. Push the connectors together until they are secured with no gap between them. Align the white dots on the Lift Motor connectors. Push the connectors together until they are secured with no gap between them. 5. Connect the Power Supply. Align the connectors and push together until they are secured with no gap between them. 6. Connect the Massage Motors. Align the clips for the Massage Motor connection. Carefully cut the cable tie and remove the Power Transformer from the rear rail. Remove the packing and unwind the cord. Locate the Motor Extension Wire attached to the rear of the unit (FIGURE 6). Remove tie and unwind cord. Align the white dot on the Power Transformer connector with the arrow on the Motor Extension connector (FIGURE 7). Push the connectors together until they are secured with no gap between them. 8. Attach the outside back upholstery cover. Pull the outside back upholstery cover down tight. Firmly press the fastening tape on the outside back upholstery cover to the fastening tape on the bottom of the rear rail. - To reduce the risk of serious injury: Provide a clear path for operation of the chair, back and legrest. Place tables and area rugs at a distance to allow the legrest to fully extend without rubbing or interference. 9. Choose a location for the chair that is close to an electrical outlet and proceed to the Battery Backup Assembly Instructions and the Operating Instructions. NOTICE: To prevent damage to the connectors and cords, it is important to unfasten all connections prior to removing the back. 10. Automatic Timer Operation The massage/heat system has an automatic timer that will shut off the MASSAGE and HEAT functions after approximately 15 to 30 minutes of operation. Pushing down on the POWER button or any zone button will restart the massage. Pushing down on the HI or LO heat button will restart the heat. When you are finished, make sure to push the POWER button and the HI or LO heat button (if activated) to turn the unit off. Proceed to Battery Backup Safety Instructions (refer to index). (1L6) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner with 6-Motor Massage & Heat Operating Instructions: POWER Activates system when backlit with LED. Press once for 15-min. timer, or press and hold down for 30-min. timer. NOTE: To restart unit after timer shuts off, press either the ZONE or POWER button. ZONES Activates any or all zones. LED indicates which zone(s) has been selected. 1 Upper Back 2 Lower Back 3 Upper Thigh LIFT (UP) Returns the chair to the seated position from the reclined position, or back to the full-lift position; press and hold the UP button to adjust positions. INTENSITY Will increase (+) or decrease (-) intensity during all modes. HEAT Activates high (HI) or low (LO) heat settings. May be operated independently or in conjunction with the massage feature. NOTE: To restart unit after 30-min. timer shuts off, press either the HI or LO button. ZONE MODE Lets you choose any or all zones for massage. PULSE MODE Activates a pulsing massage in active zones. WAVE MODE Activates wave-like (up/down) massage in active zones. LIFT (DOWN) Lowers the chair to the seated position, or raises the legrest and reclines the chair back; press and hold DOWN button to adjust positions. SPEED Controls pulsing frequency of massage in PULSE mode and controls velocity as it cycles through WAVE mode. Press (+) to increase or (-) to decrease. - To reduce the risk of serious injury: Do not use unit if power control is damaged or wet. 9 (01L) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner and (1L6) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner with 6-Motor Massage & Heat Batter y Backup Assembly Instructions: -- To reduce the risk of serious injury: In the event of a power failure the battery backup provided may not lift the user to a fully raised position. In the event of a power failure, if you require a lift to the fully raised position or multiple lifts and recline, a battery backup system may be purchased separately. Contact your La-Z-Boy Dealer for more information. Replace the Power Transformer batteries every six months and after each power failure use. Battery Backup Assembly Instructions In the event of a power failure the battery backup should return the user to the seated position from a fully raised position or a full recline position, one time. The Battery Backup is located on the Power Transformer and uses two 9-volt alkaline batteries (not included). 1. Unplug the Power Transformer from the electrical outlet. 2. Pull the connection caps with wires under the bridge on the Power Transformer. Place the connection caps over the battery terminals on each battery (FIGURE 1). 3. Position the batteries with the wires together (FIGURE 1). Slide one battery at a time under the bridge, connection cap first, while guiding the wires to make sure they are not pinched or crimped (FIGURE 2). FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2 (2) 9-Volt Alkaline Batteries (01L) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner and (1L6) Luxury-Lift Power Recliner with 6-Motor Massage & Heat Troubleshooting: -- To reduce the risk of injury: Do not attempt to disassemble or service the pump or motor. No serviceable parts are inside. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for service information. Troubleshooting for Luxury-Lift Power Recliners and Luxury-Lift Power Recliners with 6-Motor Massage & Heat There are no user maintenance or repair requirements. If the lift recliner does not work: 1 Make sure the Power Transformer is plugged into an electrical outlet. 2. Make sure the electrical outlet is working. For example, make sure there are no blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers. 3. Make sure all the connectors are secured; refer to the Assembly Instructions. 4. Make sure the electrical cords are not crimped or pinched. Make sure the electric cord or plug is not damaged. 5. Make sure the operating capacity of 350 pounds has not been exceeded and there is only one occupant in the chair. If the lift recliner still does not operate properly, contact your dealer for instructions on returning the chair for examination and repair. Except for replacement of the Power Transformer, never attempt to make any repairs or adjustments yourself. Power Transformer Replacement If the Power Transformer must be replaced: 1. Unplug the Power Transformer from the electrical outlet. 2. Locate the Power Transformer connection; refer to the Assembly Instructions. Gently pull the connectors apart to disengage. Connection Cap 3. Push the replacement Power Transformer connector into the mating connector; refer to the Assembly Instructions. Make sure the connectors are secured with no gaps between them. The two unconnected rectangular connectors are the Back Heat connectors (FIGURE 4). The two locked rectangular connectors are the Seat Heat connectors (FIGURE 4). The round connector attached to the rear base is the Motor Extension Wire connector (FIGURE 4). 3. Connect the Back Heat. Align the locking clip and locking edge of the Back Heat connectors. Push the connectors together until they lock (FIGURE 5). 4. Carefully cut the cable tie connecting the rear rail to the rear base. See (FIGURE 4) for location of the rear rail and rear base. CAUTION - To reduce the risk of minor injury: Once the back is installed, the outside back upholstery cover must be secured in place at all times. 5. Attach the lower outside back upholstery cover. Keeping hands away from the internal frame parts, pull the lower outside back upholstery cover down and firmly press the fastening tape on the back upholstery cover to the fastening tape on the body ( FIGURE 6). -- To reduce the risk of serious injury: Check the condition of the power transformers, electrical cords, plugs and connectors monthly. Keep the power transformer and electrical cords away from heat sources. Never operate the unit with a damaged power transformer, electrical cord, plug or connector. Contact your La-Z-Boy dealer for service. The chair is intended for use with only one detachable warming pad. Using more than one detachable warming pad could cause the power transformer to fail. 7. The detachable warming pad is located in the pocket of the left arm sitting. The detachable warming pad may be connected to either the seat or back connector. The back connector is located under the center back pillow on the right hand sitting side of the chair (FIGURE 8). Push the connectors together until they are secured with no gap between them. When connected to the back, the detachable warming pad may be used on your neck or shoulders (FIGURE 9). The seat connector is located under the chaise legrest on the right hand sitting side of the chair (FIGURE 10). Push the connectors together until they are secured with no gap between them. When connected to the seat, the detachable warming pad may be used on your upper or lower legs (FIGURE 11). Place tables and area rugs at a distance to allow the legrest to fully extend without rubbing or interference. 8. Choose a location for the chair that is close to an electrical outlet and proceed to the Battery Backup Assembly Instructions. NOTICE: To prevent damage to the connectors and cords, it is important to unfasten all connections prior to removing the back. 9.
