Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) may contact the office for more info. 3 Most Holy Trinity May 22, 2016 Page 3 From Our Pastor SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE Summer is fast approaching; flights are booked, hotel reservations made... Within our Deanery, we are one of four parishes that has transitioned into having one fulltime Priest/Pastor. I am blessed to have Father Mario continue to celebrate Mass when he is not otherwise enjoying retirement, and to have Father Gabriel here as much as his schedule allows. Father Mario is going to be Out of Country for seven weeks and I am looking to grab a couple of weeks for vacation myself. With these summer schedules it has become a challenge to arrange for a presider at every Mass on Sunday. Also our Mass attendance fluctuates in noticeable numbers with many parishioners out of town for an extended time during the summer months. In light of these circumstances, I am going to make One Change to our Summer Mass Schedule. Beginning June 5 th through September 4 th, the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass will not be celebrated. All other Masses remain the same. Sunday 5:30pm Mass will resume the weekend of September 10-11, Our Sunday Hospitality, or as many refer to as Coffee & Donuts will also be taking a break over summer. This decision was made with Ron and Virginia Kreber (Sunday Hospitality Team Leaders) with the hopes that in September a more team friendly approach to clean up can be established, a new look to set up/service, and more parishioners will hear the call to serve in this ministry. A huge thank you to Ron and Virginia Kreber and the entire Sunday Hospitality team for giving of your time so generously! For mercy is how God comes to meet us; mercy is the fundamental law helping us recognize everyone as brothers and sisters; mercy is the bridge connecting God and humanity, opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness. God s self-revelation as a life-giving, lovesharing Trinity of Persons draws us closer to God in friendship and communion. Both Judaism and Islam consider mercy one of God s most important attributes. Israel unceasingly proclaims God boundless in mercy. Islam addresses the Creator as Merciful and Kind, believing divine mercy limitless, its doors always open. May this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis prays, open us to more fervent dialogue, deepen our mutual understanding, eliminate all closed-minded disrespect, and drive out every form of violence and discrimination. Patrick Moses (St. Irenaeus) will be leading a very special spiritual journey to all 21 California missions from September 26-October 6, 2016, with daily mass celebrated in many of them. We will begin at the San Diego de Alcala Mission and finish at the San Francisco de Solano Mission in the heart of the northern California wine country allowing some time for wine tasting and leisure. Online bidding link: THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE GET ON THE BUS PROGRAM Before Mother s Day hundreds of children from Orange County and elsewhere in California were reunited with their mothers who are incarcerated at various state detention facilities as part of a unique and successful ministry called Get On the Bus. The Orange County group was organized and led by the tireless efforts of Sr. Eymard Flood, OSC, who serves as the Vicar for Religious at Christ Cathedral. At St. Catherine of Siena we collected over 285 bears and raised $825 so that after their visit children received a teddy bear with a personalized letter from their mother. Our drive was such a success thanks to the leadership of Cherry Ann Boudreaux and the many from our parish community who generously donated bears or made a financial commitment to the Get on the Bus program. Bears received after the deadline for the Mother s Day event will be distributed at upcoming visits scheduled for Father s Day or saved and given as Christmas presents. 9 La Santísima Trinidad 22 de mayo de 2016 Page 9 Lecturas y Noticias VIAJE DE FE Estamos en un viaje largo y lleno de acontecimientos. Las lecturas de hoy para el Domingo de la Santísima Trinidad cubren sucintamente la profundidad y la amplitud de nuestros viajes humanos. Los comienzos de nuestro viaje se revelan en la lectura de Proverbios. El plan de Dios lleno de sabiduría divina nació antes de que la tierra existiera. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús habla de su propio viaje personal. Él ha venido del Padre y volverá al Padre. Sólo en ese momento el Paráclito el Espíritu de la Verdad nos llevará hacia adelante. Esto no disminuye la dificultad del viaje. El contexto mismo del Evangelio es la noche antes de la muerte de Jesús. Como san Pablo les escribe a los romanos, Nos gloriamos hasta de los sufrimientos, pues sabemos que el sufrimiento engendra la paciencia, la paciencia engendra la virtud sólida, la virtud sólida engendra la esperanza (Romanos 5:3-4). En última instancia, nuestro viaje humano está modelado por la Santísima Trinidad una familia de amor entre el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu que todos somos llamados a emular. Año Jubilar de la Misericordia 22 de mayo de 2016 Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Este domingo la Iglesia celebra la Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. Este dogma acerca de la realidad de Dios es la clave para comprender la verdad de la religión cristiana. Mediante el poder del Espíritu Santo el Padre envió al Hijo como Salvador del mundo. Estas tres personas son un solo Dios. No es una doctrina fácil de comprender y mucho menos de pintar en arte sagrado. Sin embargo muchos artistas latinoamericanos han intentado pintar simbólicamente la verdad de la Santísima Trinidad. En muchos casos imaginan al Padre cargando a Jesús en la cruz y soplando sobre él el Espíritu en forma de paloma. A veces Padre e Hijo están entronados sobre las nubes soplando el Espíritu mutuamente y las alas de la paloma tocan los labios de ambos. En algunos casos el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo son tres cabezas que salen de un solo cuerpo. En la Bula papal Misericordiae Vultus, 2, el Papa Francisco dice que la misericordia es la palabra que revela el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad. Pues la misericordia es cómo Dios viene a nuestro encuentro; misericordia es la ley fundamental que nos ayuda a reconocernos como hermanos y hermanas; misericordia es el puente que conecta a Dios con la humanidad, abriendo nuestros corazones a la esperanza de ser amados por siempre pese a nuestras ofensas. La revelación de Dios hacia nosotros es un don de vida, un amor compartido de la Trinidad de personas que nos acercan más a Dios en amistad y comunión. Tanto el judaísmo como el islamismo consideran a la misericordia uno de los atributos más importantes de Dios. Israel incasablemente proclama la misericordia inmensa. El islamismo se refiere hacia Dios como Misericordioso y Clemente (Corán 59:22) creyendo en su divina e inmensa misericordia cuyas puertas siempre están abiertas. Que este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia, ruega el Papa Francisco, se nos abra a un dialogo más ferviente, profundizando nuestro entendimiento mutuo, eliminando toda falta de respeto de tener una mente cerrada y, eliminando toda falta de violencia y discriminación.
