Built on these roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and, by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION On the First Friday of each month we gather in prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. Following the 8 a.m. Mass and concluding at 10 p.m. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents of infants requesting information about Baptism may contact the parish office. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the second Saturday of the month. CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS At the time of death, a family member should contact the parish office, as soon as possible, to arrange the date and time for the Funeral Liturgy. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Couples must begin preparation for their Sacrament at least six months prior to their proposed wedding date. Please call the parish office for more information. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK The third Saturday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. In the event of serious illness or medical emergency, Anointing of the Sick and Eucharist may be arranged by contacting the parish office CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Adults requesting information about full initiation and communion with the Roman Catholic Church (the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) may contact the office for more info. This is the case in today s Gospel. Jesus fulfills the vision of Psalm 147: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Jesus knew, however, that he couldn t possibly heal all the illness in the world. No matter how many people he cured or how many hours he ministered, there always would be more suffering people like Job who craved his healing touch. His primary mission was not to rid the world of all suffering. His purpose was to preach the coming of the reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and transforms earthly suffering. With these words, Job concludes his lament to the Lord. Job was obviously in the depths of despair. His words echo the way we can feel when we allow life s struggles and disappointments to take hold of us. The Lord Jesus, however, has something else in mind for us. The simple story in Mark s Gospel of the curing of Peter s mother-in-law shows us that the Lord wants to lift us up out of any despair that has set in. The Gospel is good news for us. If today is a day when we are feeling particularly burdened by illness or disappointment, let us, like the townspeople in today s Gospel story, bring our cares and gather them at the Lord s door. We have a group of youth and adults who will be sent to the Bishop the following Saturday for the Rite of Election at St. Columban Church. The text of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) indicates that the Rite of Sending offers our parish the opportunity to express its approval of the catechumens concerning the state of their formation and progress. If so, the Age Well Senior Services Meals on Wheels program at St. Joseph Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach is looking for Substitute or Permanent Volunteer Drivers. The commitment is approximately an hour out of your day before noon (Monday through Friday) depending on the Meals on Wheels delivery route. Permanent drivers volunteer regularly on a designated weekday(s) on a designated route, and substitute drivers are contacted by Age Well to fill in when permanent/regular drivers are unavailable. All deliveries are made within Laguna Beach; and while transporting meals is the only driver requirement, many recipients are homebound and do welcome conversation when you deliver meals. If you have a current California Driver s License, Vehicle Registration and Automobile Insurance, as well as a warm smile and an open heart; Age Well Senior Services Meals on Wheels could use your help! 9 Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 8 de febrero de 2015 Page 9 Lecturas y Noticias TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Los textos sagrados que componen lo que llamamos Biblia fueron coleccionados, organizados y ordenados durante los primeros cuatrocientos años del cristianismo. Fue durante el Concilio de Cartago (Siglo IV), que finalmente se canonizó (estableció el orden) la Biblia católica. Los textos sagrados de la Biblia se han proclamado a lo largo de los siglos en la celebración eucarística para nutrir la fe de los creyentes. En 1969, la Iglesia católica estableció un nuevo Leccionario conteniendo los textos bíblicos que se proclaman en la litúrgia. El Leccionario contiene un gran número de textos de la Escritura, organizados de una manera muy especial a fin de que estos textos sean proclamados en las misas dominicales y en las feriales (entre semana). El Leccionario está organizado de tal manera que si una persona asiste a misa diariamente durante un período de tres años, escuchará casi todos los textos de la Biblia. La proclamación de los Evangelios se realiza mediante ciclos dominicales. Durante el Ciclo A, proclamamos el Evangelio de Mateo; el de Marcos durante el ciclo B y el de Lucas durante el ciclo C. El Evangelio de san Juan se proclama durante la Cuaresma y la Pascua. Así mismo, el capítulo 6 de este Evangelio se incorpora al Ciclo B, que es el de Marcos. El resto del Nuevo Testamento se proclama como segunda lectura, excepto durante la Pascua, mientras que la primera lectura se proclama siempre del Antiguo Testamento, excepto durante la Pascua. Con estas palabras Job concluye su lamento al Señor. Era obvio que Job estaba profundamente desesperado. Sus palabras son un eco de cómo nos sentimos nosotros cuando dejamos que las luchas y desilusiones de la vida nos abatan. Sin embargo, el Señor Jesús tiene otros planes para nosotros. La sencilla historia en el Evangelio de Marcos sobre la curación de la suegra de Pedro nos demuestra que el Señor desea sacarnos de cualquier desesperanza en que estemos hundidos. El Evangelio es una buena nueva para nosotros. Si hoy es uno de esos días en que te sientes particularmente agobiado por una enfermedad o una desilusión, igual que sucedió con la gente del pueblo en la historia del Evangelio de hoy, pon todas tus preocupaciones a los pies del Señor. Jesús cumple la visión del Salmo 147: Él sana los corazones destrozados y venda sus heridas. Jesús sabía, sin embargo, que nunca podría sanar todas las enfermedades del mundo.
