Isaiah 30:15 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time In this Sunday s Gospel, Jesus invites us to come to him to find rest (Matthew 11:28), and thus we will understand the need to enter into communion with God. But in the end, where do we find God? At first, we think of holy places, but it is also true that the presence of God may be found elsewhere as well. God wishes to maintain a close relationship with us. In the difficult moments of our lives, we must not forget that God is always there. Have confidence in him. Let us trust him and entrust to him our burdens, our sorrows, and our sufferings endured in the different events of our lives. If we choose to rely solely upon our own resources, without relying upon the Lord, we risk paying the price. Jesus said it: Without me, you can do nothing. And we ought then to understand that God lives in us and acts in us. Everything that the Father does is also done by the Son. He is the image of the Father. No one knows the Son, Jesus says, except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son. (Matthew 11:27) Decimocuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario En el Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús nos invita a venir a Él para encontrar reposo (Mateo 11:28), y por lo tanto entenderemos la necesidad de entrar en comunión con Dios. Pero en fin, dónde encontramos a Dios? En un principio, pensamos en los lugares santos, pero también es cierto que la presencia de Dios se puede encontrar en otros lugares. Dios quiere mantener una estrecha relación con nosotros. En los momentos difíciles de nuestra vida, no debemos olvidar que Dios siempre está ahí. Tenga confianza en Él. Confiemos en él y confiamos a Él, nuestras cargas, nuestros dolores y nuestros sufrimientos son perdurados en los diferentes eventos de nuestras vidas. Si optamos por confiar únicamente en nuestros propios recursos, sin confiar en el Señor, nos arriesgamos a pagar el precio. Jesús lo dijo: "Separados de mí, nada podéis hacer." Y nosotros debemos entonces entender que Dios vive en nosotros y actúa en nosotros. Todo lo que el Padre hace también lo hace por el Hijo. Él es la imagen del Padre. "Nadie conoce al Hijo", dice Jesús, "sino el Padre, y nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo." (Mateo 11:27 Quatorzième dimanche du temps ordinaire Dans l évangile de ce dimanche Jésus nous invite à venir à lui pour trouver le repos (Matthieu 11, 28), et nous comprendrons la nécessité d entrer en communion avec Dieu. Où donc trouver Dieu?. Spontanément nous pensons à des lieux sacrés, alors que la présence de Dieu peut se trouver ailleurs aussi. Dieu veut entretenir une relation étroite avec nous. Dans les moments difficiles de notre vie, il ne faut pas oublier que Dieu est toujours présent. Faisons-lui confiance. Confions lui nos fardeaux, nos chagrins, les souffrances endurées dans diférentes situations de notre vie. Si nous choisissons de compter uniquement sur nos propres forces, sans nous en remettre au Seigneur, nous risquons d en payer le prix. Jésus l a dit: sans moi, vous ne pouvez rien faire. Et nous comprendrons alors que Dieu vit en nous et agit avec nous. Tout ce que le Père fait le Fils le fait pareillement, il est l image du Père: Personne, dit Jésus, ne connaît le Fils, sinon le Père, et personne ne connaît le Père, sinon le Fils. (Matthieu 11, 27) Jesus exclaimed, All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

TODAY FOR U.S. MISSIONS The second collection to be taken at all of this weekend s masses is for the benefit of the Catholic Church s missions to historically black and Indian congregations in this country. These congregations have often suffered from poverty and prejudice in the past and can use your financial assistance. Please show them your customary generosity today. AUGUST HAITIAN PILGRIMAGE TO CANADA Our parishioners of Haitian origin announce another of their popular bus pilgrimages to two holy sites in Canada. This trip leaves from the front of our church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, stops at Cap de la Madeleine on Friday, August 15, and at Ste. Anne de Beaupre on Saturday, August 16, and returns to New York on Sunday, August 17. The cost of the trip is $300 per person. NEXT SVDPS RUMMAGE SALE ANNOUNCED Our parish conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society reports that it will hold another fund-raising Rummage Sale on the sidewalk in front of the church (weather permitting) on Sat., July 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Accordingly, the Society requests parishioners donation of the usual sale items, but please no winter clothing, baskets, books or CDs. Donated items should be in good condition, clean and have all of their working parts. Donations should be placed in a carton or shopping bag clearly marked SVDPS RUMMAGE SALE and brought to the Rectory Office or left at the rear of the church if no one is available at the Rectory to accept them. SVDPS also welcomes volunteers on July 12 to help set up, work and take down the Sale. A CATHOLIC SIGNER OF THE DECLARATION Independence Day has just passed, and so one might think a little about the Declaration of Independence. Most of the patriots who signed that document were of British or Anglo- Irish origin, and Protestant by religion. And, at the time British policy at home and in the colonies was decidedly anti-catholic. Yet one signer of the 1776 Declaration was a Roman Catholic, to wit, Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Born in Annapolis in 1737 of Irish ancestry, Carroll was educated in Europe mostly by Jesuits. He returned home in 1765 but, as a Catholic, was barred by colonial Maryland anti-popery statutes from entering politics, practicing law or voting. Carroll nevertheless prospered as a result of his family s large Maryland landholdings, and was said to be, at the time of the Revolution, one of the wealthiest men in the colonies. Beginning in 1773, Carroll had become active in the independence movement and was elected in 1776 as one of Maryland s delegates to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, which produced the Declaration. Although his family owned slaves, in later life, Carroll introduced in the Maryland legislature an unsuccessful bill for the gradual abolition of slavery. Carroll was the oldest and last surviving signer of the Declaration, dying in Baltimore in 1832 at age nda COLECTA PARA LAS MISIONES DE EE.UU. CATÓLICO FIRMA LA DECLARACIÓN DE INDEPENDENCIA El Día de la Independencia fue el viernes pasado, y nos hace pensar un poco en la Declaración de Independencia. La mayoría de los patriotas que firmaron ese documento eran de origen británico o anglo-irlandés, y protestante por religión. Y, la política británica en el país y en las colonias era decididamente anti-católica. Sin embargo, uno de los firmantes de la Declaración de 1776 era católico romano, Charles Carroll de Carrollton. Nacido en Annapolis en 1737 de descendencia irlandesa, Carroll fue educado en Europa por los jesuitas. Just when this writer was beginning to fear that the 6/29 weekend collection would sink to our usual summertime depths, BANG, SUR- PRISE!! -- the 6/29 collection came to $7,669 virtually meeting our $7,800 weekly goal. There may have been special factors behind this good result, but for now we shall simply rejoice and be glad.
