3 Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Fremont, CA July 24, 2016 I am sure, all of us some time in life have wondered why God doesn't answer our prayers the way we want. Summer is a good time to invest in our spiritual growth and accepting God s answer to our prayers is a good way to measure our personal level of spiritual maturity. The extremely immature Christian will react as if his prayer wasn't heard at all. He will become angry and resentful at God. In order to justify that anger, he may even start trying to convince himself that God doesn't exist. The only time we doubt whether God hears our prayers, is when we don't get what we want right when we want it. If we say a prayer of thanksgiving or praise, for example, we never doubt that God hears it. Uncontrolled frustration at supposedly unanswered prayer, then, is a sign of spiritual immaturity. Mature Christians know that God hears and answers every prayer. But, that answer can come in three different forms, as St Augustine taught long ago. If we ask God for something in prayer, God can say one of three things in response: First, he can say OK, and give us what we ask for. Second, he can simply say no, which means that what we are asking for is not good for us. This too is an answer to prayer, and, as every parent knows, sometimes it's the most loving answer of all. Third, he can say OK, but not now. Yes, No, and Not Now these are the three answers that God has to choose from in responding to our petitions, and he always chooses one of them like most of the parents have one of these answers to the requests of the Children. Keeping this in mind can help us overcome the temptation to throw spiritual temper tantrums when God doesn't give us exactly what we want. Have a Blessed Summer! Fr. Joy Kumarthusseril, mf

6 Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Fremont, CA 24 de julio, 2016 Estoy seguro que todos, alguna vez en nuestra vida, nos hemos preguntado por qué Dios no responde a nuestras oraciones del modo que nosotros queremos. El verano es un buen tiempo para invertir en nuestro crecimiento espiritual aceptando las respuestas que Dios nos da, midiendo nuestro propio nivel de madurez espiritual. El Cristiano extremadamente inmaduro reaccionará como si su oración no fuera escuchada. Se enoja y tiene resentimiento hacia Dios. Para justificar su coraje, tratará de convencerse a si mismo de que Dios no existe. La única vez que dudamos si Dios escucha nuestras oraciones, es cuando no recibimos lo que le pedimos, en el momento que lo queremos. Si decimos una oración para dar gracias, por ejemplo, nunca dudamos que Dios la escucha. Frustración incontrolada a una supuesta petición sin responder, es un signo de inmadurez espiritual. Los Cristianos maduros saben que Dios escucha y responde a cada una de nuestras oraciones. Pero, que la respuesta puede venir en tres diferentes formas, como lo enseñaba San Agustín hace mucho tiempo. Si le pedimos algo a Dios en oración, Dios nos puede decir una de estas tres cosas como respuesta: Primero, puede decir está bien, y darnos los que le pedimos. Segundo, simplemente puede decir no, que significa que lo que le pedimos no es bueno para nosotros. Esta también es una respuesta a lo que pedimos y como los padre deben saber, es la respuesta más amorosa de todas. Tercero, el puede decir, está bien, pero no por ahora. Si, No, y No Ahora estas son las tres respuestas que Dios ha elegido para responder a nuestras peticiones, y el siempre escoge una de ellas, como todos los padres tienen algunas de estas respuestas para lo que les piden sus hijos. Teniendo esto en mente, nos puede ayudar a acabar con la tentación de hacer berrinches espirituales cunado Dios no nos da la respuesta exacta que nosotros queremos. Tengan un verano bendecido!
