1 Did You Get It? AVANZA! Goal: Level 1 p. 444 Level 1B p. 268 Presentación de gramática Learn how to use demonstrative adjectives. Demonstrative Adjectives Demonstrative adjectives are words that help you point out specific things. Read the following sentences, paying attention to the boldfaced words. (Do you like this ring here?) No. Me gusta ese anillo. (No. I like that ring.) Aquel anillo es bonito también. (That ring over there is pretty too.) Te gusta este anillo que está aquí? EXPLANATION: Demonstrative adjectives indicate the location of a person or thing in relation to the speaker. Este and estos (this, these) refer to what is near the speaker. Ese and esos (that, those) refer to what is near the person addressed. Aquel and aquellos (that, those) refer to what is far from both the speaker and the person addressed. All demonstrative adjectives go before the noun they describe and agree with the noun in gender and number. Study the chart below and use it as a quick reference for all forms of demonstrative adjectives. Masculine Singular Location este collar this necklace estos collares these near the speaker ese collar that necklace esos collares those near the person addressed aquel collar that necklace aquellos collares those far from the speaker and the person addressed Feminine Singular Plural Location esta blusa this blouse estas blusas these blouses near the speaker esa blusa that blouse esas blusas those blouses near the person addressed aquella blusa that blouse aquellas blusas those blouses far from the speaker and the person addressed s1rb_0800_dygi.indd 19 Plural 19 9/14/06 7:37:21 PM
