4 May 14, 2017 CAMINO de SANTIAGO On one day of the year, the shared journey of an Orange County Catholic Community in Lake Forest, California, celebrates a spiritual connection to their patron Saint James -Santiago de Compostela. In a miniature re-creation of the famous Camino Walk in Spain, the local community embarks on the Lake Forest streets and Orange County trails, in a choice of either a 7 mile or a 4 mile journey from a distant place to our personal shrine at Santiago de Compostela. For many, a Camino Walk may have a special and distinctly personal meaning. Whether you find a deep spiritual connections in nature, or experience personal meditative aspirations while on a shared journey, reflecting on a litany of suggested prayers and verses, a Camino offers it all! For over a millennium, pilgrims have walked along the Way of St. James traveling for months to arrive at Santiago de Compostela. In all of the United States there is only one Catholic parish church and community dedicated to the Apostle St. James, bearing the namesake of Santiago de Compostela. Here, in the Diocese of Orange, in Lake Forest, one community is blessed and entrusted with the privilege of being called the Parish of Santiago de Compostela. To honor the Feast of St. James, celebrated annually on the Saturday closest to the July25th feast day, the parish community has inaugurated a local pilgrimage along the Way of St. James. Last year (2016), the second Camino, a walk of 4.1 miles, more than700 Santiago pilgrims participated. Each year, our hope is to expand the scope and increase the participation in the Camino de Santiago. Walk with us Along the Way -become a part of the Camino. A Blessed and Wonderful Mother s Day to all who have given of their whole lives and gifts to this lifegiving and life-nurturing vocation. Congratulations to the Parents and Families of our First Communion Children and the catechist-teachers who have journeyed with them during the past months of Religious Education. We hope and pray that the gift of the Eucharist will be sustained by coming to celebrate the Lord s Day Sunday with their parish family. Thomas Camino de Santiago 2017 Camino de Santiago 2017 Join us Along the Way as we celebrate in a our special way, the Feast of Santiago de Compostela Únase a nosotros "A lo largo del Camino, mientras celebramos de una manera especial, la Fiesta de Santiago de Compostela. To honor the Feast of our patron saint, St. James the Apostle, known lovingly to us as Santiago de Compostela, we gather annually as a parish community on the Saturday closest to the feast day (July 25th - the actual feast day). This year we celebrate the 3rd annual Camino de Santiago. Each year we have grown in size and enthusiasm, as we make our Camino Pilgrimage through the Lake Forest streets and Orange County Trails. The Camino de Santiago Pilgrim Walk is expanding to include the neighboring parish communities of the Diocese of OC. Believing in the motto, if you build it, they will come, we anticipate nearly 1000 participants. And, this year we are privileged to have a special guest, who will share his Camino experiences during many of our weekend Masses. Phil Volker, featured in the documentary movie Phil s Camino that we viewed last year will be our Camino s Grand Marshall. Phil continues his battle with stage-4 cancer, a fight that he has placed in the spiritual intercession of Santiago de Compostela. Phil has a powerful and beautiful message that you will not want to miss! Along the Way How many times will I pass this Way? Is this the road that leads me Home? Along the Way I feel alone, the uneven path stirs up my fear. I doubt, I tremble, I fear I should turn back! Is that the sound of distant thunder, a strike s echoing call? Or, is that the sound of a Siren s call, a deceptive urge to alter my tact? Along the Way I feel alone; Who will lead me Home? I doubt, I tremble, but I can not turn back! (to be continued) Para conmemorar la fiesta de nuestro santo patrón, Santiago Apóstol, conocido cariñosamente como Santiago de Compostela, nos reunimos anualmente como comunidad parroquial el sábado más cercano a la fiesta de Santiago (25 de julio es el día real de la fiesta). Este año celebraremos la 3ª edición del Camino de Santiago. Cada año hemos crecido en número de participantes y entusiasmo, haciendo nuestro "Camino de Peregrinación" a través de las calles de Lake Forest y los trails de Orange County. This program is available for all baptized high school students. Congratulations to the 77 Santiago high school students confirmed on May 5th by Bishop Tod Brown. The two years of their preparation for this sacrament culminated in this holy liturgy with Fathers Thomas and Greg and our Deacons Dan and Humberto. Along with your prayer, our community has completed their initiation, begun in Baptism, into the Catholic Faith. We welcome their full participation in parish life. As you may know in recent weeks we've been visited by unwelcome solicitors. Originally they were not on Santiago property, last Sunday they violated Lake Forest City Ordinance covering private property and came on our property to the Parish Hall in front of the Church. We will have them removed either voluntarily or by the police. Please do not be confused the Lake Forest police know of this group, its much larger than we see and in fact are bused into Lake Forest. This is not a family living on the fringes, its a scam. However recognizing "who are we to judge" we recommend you DO NOT give them money, instead tell them to call is Orange County services hot-line it's answered by a human with lists of resources where one can obtain almost any service they need. food, shelter, health issues, both mental and physical. Jesús en el evangelio de este Domingo, dice a sus discípulos: no pierdan la Paz. Si creen en Dios, crean también en mi. Sin embargo, la realidad es que muchas veces en nuestra vida perdemos la paz y nos sentimos ansiosos y llenos de temores, pero, por qué pasa esto? Por qué perdemos la paz interior? Perdemos esa paz, porque siempre que uno desea algo fuera de orden, inmediatamente se pierde la tranquilidad del alma. Los orgullosos y los codiciosos nunca están tranquilos, mas sin embargo, los humildes y los pobres de espíritu viven en una paz muy grande. Una persona que tiene muchos apegos interiormente, es fácilmente tentado y vencido por las cosas de este mundo. Una persona de espíritu débil e inclinado a las cosas que la carne apetece, a duras penas pude contenerse de los deseos terrenales. Por eso, muchas veces, cuando una persona consigue aquella que tanto desea pero que es simplemente algo de lo que este mundo ofrece, luego al obtenerlo le remuerde la conciencia. Por qué? porque se dejó arrastrar por aquella cosa deseada, que en nada le ayuda a alcanzar la paz. La paz verdadera del alma no se consigue cediendo a todos los deseos desordenados, sino resistiéndoles. Es por esta razón que perdemos esa paz de la que Jesús nos habla en los evangelios. Jesús, con sus enseñanzas, nos invita a no perder la paz y creamos en Dios y creamos en Él!!Dios les bendiga! Se ha demostrado que el tejer relaja. La simple actividad manual y el fijar la atención en la tarea nos abre las puertas a un estado de calma que trae beneficios a quienes están atravesando procesos de estrés o ansiedad. EL CAMINO Hoy sentimos la perturbación de los apóstoles cuando empiezan a darse cuenta de que el Señor pronto los dejará. Temerosos preguntan: "Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas cómo podemos saber el camino?" (Juan 14:5). Jesús les dice que él es el camino. El tiempo de Pascua ha sido un tiempo para crecer en la fe pascual para que, así también, nosotros podamos darnos cuenta de que Jesús es el camino. Nos consuela la promesa del Señor de que va a la casa de su Padre a preparar un lugar para nosotros, su pueblo elegido que ha sido llamado de las tinieblas a la luz admirable de Dios. Mientras el cirio pascual continúa ardiendo en este tiempo santo, recordemos que en nuestro bautismo nos dieron la luz de Cristo.
