It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. My guess is that if we took Jesus words literally from today s gospel reading most of us would be walking around (or not walking due to lack of feet) without many of our limbs and appendages. I would imagine that even fewer of us would have tongues left. The question is what is Jesus really talking about? The answer, nothing in this life is worth sacrificing the Kingdom of Heaven over. Ever. How often do we find ourselves putting something or other before God and his kingdom? We miss Mass because of football. We sacrifice peace of soul because we want to watch a show or two on TV that is completely opposed to what the Lord wants for us. We become like Satan (whose name means The Accuser ) because we want to tell others how bad somebody else is or how mean they ve been to us. And the list goes on. Nothing on this earth compares to the wonders and glory that await us in the world to come and yet we continue to be tempted to give away our inheritance for the things we can see, touch, taste, and feel. Jesus asks us to review our lives and get rid of all those things that make us less than he wants us to be, things that keep us from reaching our full potential as the sons and daughters of God. Half measures won t cut it either. Far better to go through life without TV, internet, cell phones, drinking buddies, friends with whom we sin, than to miss out on the Kingdom of God.

A Prayer for Priests +Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for OUR needs. We pray for them in THEIR needs. We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them aside, anointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood. Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as are we, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we. Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith. We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread. We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours. Amen.

Proceeds will help offset costs for this year s Sixth Grade Camp as well as future Sixth Grade Camps. Come and enjoy a scrumptious Spaghetti Dinner prepared by our Knights of Columbus. 5 Page Five Vigésimo Sexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 27 de Septiembre de 2015 Del Pastor Jesús dijo, "Si tu mano te es ocasion de pecado, córtatela; pues mas vale entrar manco en la vida eterna, que ir con tus dos manos al Gehena, lugar de castigo, al fuego que no se apaga. Y si tu pie te es ocasión de pecado, córtatelo; pues mas te vale entrar cojo en la vida eterna, que con tus dos pies ser arrojado al Gehena, lugar de castigo. Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de pecado, sácatelo; pues mas te vale entrar tuerto en el Reino de Dios, que ser arrojado con tus dos ojos al Gehena, lugar de castigo, donde el gusano no muere, y el fuego no se apaga." Supongo que si tomamos literalmente las palabras de Jesús del evangelio de hoy la mayoría de nosotros no estaríamos andando (o caminando debido a la falta de pies) sin muchas de nuestras extremidades y apéndices. Me imagino que incluso menos de nosotros tendríamos aun lengua. La pregunta es De qué esta hablando Jesús realmente? La respuesta, no hay nada en esta vida que valga la pena sacrificar el Reino de los Cielos. Nunca. Con qué frecuencia nos encontramos poniendo una cosa u otra cosa delante de Dios y de su reino? Faltamos a Misa por causa del fútbol. Sacrificamos la paz del alma, porque queremos ver un programa o dos en la televisión, que es completamente opuesto a lo que el Señor quiere para nosotros. Nos hacemos como Satanás (cuyo nombre significa "el acusador") porque queremos decirle a los demás que tan mal alguien está o cómo han sido malos con nosotros. Y la lista continúa. Nada en esta tierra se compara a las maravillas y la gloria que nos esperan en el mundo que esta por venir y, sin embargo, seguimos con la tentación de regalar nuestro patrimonio por las cosas que podemos ver, tocar, probar y sentir. Jesús nos invita a revisar nuestra vida y deshacernos de todas esas cosas que nos hacen menos de lo que el quiere para nosotros, las cosas que nos impiden llegar a nuestro potencial como los hijos e hijas de Dios. Medidas a medias tampoco lo lograran. Mucho mejor es ir por la vida sin televisión, internet, teléfonos celulares, amigos para beber, amigos con los que hemos pecado, de que se pierda el Reino de Dios.
