2 Page 2 SCHOOL INFORMATION OUR MISSION: The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice will provide students from the southern Bronx with a comprehensive high school education and lay the academic and social groundwork for success in college and careers. Using a theme of law and social justice, the School will engage, inspire, and empower students, and will equip them with the academic skills to earn a Regents diploma and gain admission to the college of their choice prepared for success. The School will create a pathway for its students to law school and careers as attorneys. The pathway will include mentoring opportunities with law students and attorneys and partnerships with institutions of higher learning. These institutions will offer college and law school experiences to our students and share with them the academic benchmarks and habits necessary to gain entrance to college and law school. For additional information about the School, please visit us at SUBMISSION DIRECTIONS The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice is accepting applications for students enrolling in ninth (9th) grade for the school year. Applications can be submitted in person, by mail, fax, or , on our website, or you can fill out the New York City Common Charter School Application online. Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2015 until 5:00 PM EST, April 1, All applications received after 5:00 PM April 1, 2015 will be placed on the School s waiting list based on the date and time the School received the application as well as any applicable preferences. LOTTERY INFORMATION The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice has 120 open seats for students entering ninth (9th) grade in the fall of If the number of applications submitted exceeds the number of available seats, the School will conduct a random lottery to fill the seats. The lottery is open to all students who reside in New York and submit a completed application by 5:00 PM on April 1, 2015; however, an admissions preference will be given to students who reside in Community School District where the School is located. If a student does not receive a seat through the lottery, the student s name will be placed on the School s waiting list. The lottery will take place at a location and time to be determined between April 1 and April 15, This information will be available at least one week prior to the lottery.
