Concertijo is a concerto for English Horn and band dedicated to Aitor Llimerá Galduf, English Horn soloist with the Barcelona Municipal Band. It is in three movements. The first is a modified sonata form; the introduction and the first subject have a certain pentatonic flavour and are slow in character, contrasting with the vigorous rhythms of the second subject of this first movement. A notable feature of this movement is that the recapitulation is the form of an arch, since the second subject is recapitulated first and then the movement ends with the introduction, avoiding the recapitulation of the main subject. The second movement is the slowest and most expressive in the concerto. It is in lied form and consists of two very cantabile themes. The introduction to this second movement will reappear as a theme in the third movement. The third movement is the most vigorous and rhythmic of the three. It is in rondo form and is composed of three themes. The first appears cyclically throughout the movement, the second is the most cantabile of the three and leads to the cadenza, where the cor anglais has the most virtuoso section of the whole concerto, and finally, before the last recapitulation of the main theme, the third theme of this movement appears. This theme is subtly reminiscent of the introduction to the second movement of the concerto.
