The event was attended by the Most Honourable President of The Generalitat de Catalunya. It was an unforgettable day for the Catalan company which also celebrates its 30 th anniversary this year. COMPANY EMPRESA 4 CIRCUTOR APUESTA POR LA INTERNACIONALIZACIÓN CIRCUTOR MOVES TOWARDS INTERNATIONALISATION En un mundo con una economía cada vez más globalizada, CIRCUTOR ha apostado decididamente por la internacionalización, ya no sólo como política comercial a la cual desde hace años está dedicando un gran esfuerzo, que le ha llevado a estar presente en más de 90 países, sino también fabricando sus productos en otros países, donde por sus características ofrezcan ventajas competitivas, ya sean tecnológicas, geográficas o económicas. Para hacer realidad esta política CIRCUTOR ha comprado la mayoría de las acciones de la empresa Checa ZEZ-SILKO, dedicada a la fabricación de condensadores. Empresa, con una amplia variedad de condensadores de potencia para alta y baja tensión, condensadores para alta frecuencia de elevadas corrientes y condensadores para electrónica de potencia. La Empresa está situada en la ciudad de Zamberk a 170 km de Praga. Tiene una plantilla de 140 personas, ocupa una superficie construida de 32.000 m 2 y desarrolla sus productos con tecnología propia. Con esta adquisición CIRCUTOR refuerza su presencia en los mercados de Europa del Este, en un momento en que muchos de estos países están a punto de entrar en la Unión Europea. Not just in its commercial policy where it has been making great efforts for years, giving it a presence in over 90 countries, but also in manufacturing its products abroad where local conditions offer technological, geographical or economic advantages. To turn this policy into a reality CIRCUTOR has bought a majority shareholding in the Czech capacitor manufacturing company ZEZ-SILKO. This company has a wide variety of capacitors; for high and low voltage, high current frequency capacitors and power electronic capacitors. The company is located in the town of Zamberk 170 km from Prague. With a workforce of 140, and a site measuring 32,000 m 2 it develops its products using its own technology. This acquisition strengthens CIRCUTOR s presence in Eastern Europe at a time when many of these countries are about to join the European Union.

En este año tan especial hemos inaugurado una nueva sede central en Viladecavalls, cerca de Terrassa. Es un paso muy importante para CIRCUTOR. Tenemos unas instalaciones modernas, cómodas, eficientes, Ello nos permite aumentar nuestra competitividad, pues el servicio que prestamos a nuestros clientes y amigos se ha visto sumamente mejorado. Trabajamos pues en un entorno excelente y ello nos motiva aún más para seguir adelante en nuestro empeño de ser la mejor Empresa de nuestro sector. Pero el año 2003 representa también para nosotros un doble aniversario, pues cumplimos 20 años en la apasionante tarea de exportar. Nos ha parecido un buen momento para compartir un trocito de nuestra historia con todos los que son de alguna forma nuestra familia, la familia CIRCUTOR. La decisión de exportar En el año 1983, con motivo de su 10º aniversario, CIRCUTOR hace balance de su situación actual y se plantea su futuro. 10 años de vida. Es una etapa que se ha pasado satisfactoriamente. Se tiene ya una cierta posición en el Mercado Español, de equipos para el ahorro y el control de la energía eléctrica. Cada año se ha crecido un poco más y se han obtenido más beneficios. La situación financiera es muy sana. La tecnología que se posee está a la altura de cualquier competidor extranjero. Ahora, es un buen momento para preguntarse: Cómo se imaginan los propietarios de CIRCUTOR a su Empresa dentro de cinco años? Cómo se plantea el futuro? Ramón Comellas y Ramón Pons, propietarios de la Empresa, tuvieron en aquellos días una conversación parecida a ésta: The decision to export In 1983, on its 10 th anniversary, CIRCUTOR took stock of the situation and planned for the future. 10 years old. It was a time that had been satisfactorily spent. It already had a certain position in the Spanish electricity saving and control equipment Market. It had steadily grown year on year and was earning more profits. The financial side was very healthy. The technology it had was equal to any foreign competitor. So, it was a good time to ask ourselves: Where do the owners of CIRCUTOR see the Company in five years time? How do you see the future? At that time, Ramón Comellas and Ramón Pons, owners of the Company had a conversation like this: - We have reached where we are. We have a leading Company in Spain. It s been great! CIRCUTOR WORLDWIDE CIRCUTOR EN EL MUNDO - Hemos llegado hasta aquí. Tenemos una Empresa líder en España. Ha sido apasionante! - Crees que deberíamos intentar crecer más? - Sí, me gustaría que CIRCUTOR aumentara la producción y creciera. Así podríamos hacer nuevos productos tal como éste y éste, pero ahora no tenemos suficiente volumen para tener más recursos de I+D, etc. Que te parece?. - Ramón, la única forma de crecer con estos productos tan innovadores es venderlos fuera de España. Aquí ya somos líderes y vender más costaría muchísimo. Crees que podremos exportar? - Claro que podemos. Vamos a ello. La decisión fue clara: - La Empresa debe seguir con su camino de productos tecnológicos y técnicos dentro del mundo del ahorro y el control de la energía eléctrica. - Hay una voluntad de seguir y aumentar el crecimiento en las ventas. - La Empresa debería afrontar su presencia en mercados exteriores. Los resortes que mueven a un empresario a llenar su sana ambición de prosperar son múltiples y complejos. Lo que llevó a CIRCUTOR a ese camino fue el afán de sus propietarios de convertir a la Empresa en un líder mundial en su nicho de mercado. Pocas Empresas españolas sentían por aquellos días el impulso de exportar. CIRCUTOR lo sintió. - Do you think we should to expand further? - Yes, I would like CIRCUTOR to increase production and to expand. That way we could make new products like this and this, but at the moment we don t have enough volume to have enough R + D resources, etc. What do you think? - Ramon, the only way to expand with these products is to sell them outside Spain. Here we are, already market leaders and to sell more would cost a lot. Do you think that we really can export? - Of course we can. Let s go for it. The decision was obvious: - The Company must continue on its path of technological and technical products in the world of electricity saving and control. - There was a will to continue and to increase sales. - The Company would have to tackle its presence in overseas markets. The motivations behind a businessman s desire to satisfy his healthy ambition to succeed are many and complex. What took CIRCUTOR down this path was the desire of its owners to make the Company a world leader in a niche market. Few Spanish Companies those days felt the urge to export. CIRCUTOR had that feeling. 22 CIRCUTOR NEWS 2003.02

La primera Feria exterior. Un test preliminar. Antes de lanzarse de lleno a un mundo exterior poco conocido, los emprendedores propietarios de CIRCUTOR deciden que deben efectuar un test, un estudio de mercado a su manera. Por ello deciden acudir al mercado más competitivo de Europa en su ramo, al país de donde es más difícil exportar; es decir, Italia. Si se sale bien de la experiencia querrá decir que se puede triunfar en otros mercados más fáciles. Ni cortos ni perezosos inscriben a CIRCUTOR como expositor en la Feria Intel de Milán, cuna del mundo eléctrico Italiano. La participación en la Feria contaba con el apoyo económico de ICEX, y fue organizada por AMELEC, la Asociación de Empresas Exportadoras de Material Eléctrico. El resultado de la experiencia es bien decepcionante en lo que se refiere al mercado Italiano, pues se dan cuenta de que el nivel de precios y la gran cantidad de productos son barreras que sólo se romperían con años de trabajo. Sin embargo, el destino hizo que la asistencia a la Feria fuera el inicio del camino exportador de la Empresa, porque una gran parte de los visitantes eran extranjeros de los cinco continentes del mundo, y venían a buscar Firmas a las que representar. Algunos de los contactos de ésta Feria siguen siendo, aún hoy en día, distribuidores de CIRCUTOR. Bingo! Lo que aprendió la Empresa de esta experiencia es que la carrera de la internacionalización de las ventas será una carrera de fondo, no un sprint de 100 metros y que las organizaciones gubernamentales, las cámaras de comercio y las asociaciones jugarían un papel importante de ayuda a la exportación. A partir de este momento, CIRCUTOR empieza un nuevo camino pues cree en si misma para la aventura de exportar. Está preparada para ello. The first overseas Trade Show. An initial test. Before fully throwing themselves into a little known foreign world, the entrepreneurial owners of CIRCUTOR decided to do a test, a sort of market study. So they decided to turn to the most competitive European market in its field, the most difficult country to export to: Italy. If the experience worked well here it meant that it would be a success in other easier markets. Without a moment s delay CIRCUTOR put their names down as an exhibitor at the Intel Trade Show in Milan, home to the Italian electrical world. Attending the Trade Show was financially assisted by ICEX and was organised by AMELEC, the Association of Electrical Material Exporters. The experience ended up being a great disappointment in terms of the Italian market because they realised that price levels and the large quantities of products were barriers that would only be overcome by years of endeavour. Nevertheless, destiny saw that attending the Trade Show was the first step down the export path for the Company, because a large majority of the visitors were foreign, from the five continents of the world who had come looking for Companies that they could represent. Today some of the contacts from that Trade Show are still CIRCUTOR distributors. Bingo! What the Company had learned from this experience, was that international sales was a long distance race not a 100 metres sprint and that governmental organisations, chambers of commerce and associations would play an important role in assisting exports. From that moment on, CIRCUTOR began a new path, because of its self-belief when it came to the export adventure. It was ready for it.
