PASTOR S CORNER Sometimes you can identify a person by the sound of their voice, or by the words they choose. Jesus said his followers would be like that: My sheep will recognize my voice. Can you tell who this is by the words they re using? Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries. Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire. Unfortunately, these are from the Word of God. The author is the Holy Spirit, together with the Apostle James. Most of us probably have a nicer voice for God in our head, and to hear his actual words can be disturbing. 2,000 years ago these words wouldn t have applied to most people. But to live in the 21st century in America makes all of us members of a consumer society. We are the wealthiest and most decadent generation that has ever lived, which changes our relationship with how the Bible sounds. The Holy Spirit that writes 2,000 years ago knows what will destroy us and what can fulfill us. Since He made gold, He knows it s nice, but He also knows we can behave like moths drawn to the flame. God knows if he can uproot our hearts in time, he can keep us from burning up with all our possessions. Are you willing to become comfortable with His voice, even if he burns away your possessions? Pray For Oremos por For the following souls of the recently departed, that through the mercy of Christ, they may rest in peace Oremos también por todos los fieles difuntos para que a través de la misericordia de Dios descansen en paz... Family Faith Formation Here at St. Isidore, we want to recognize the parents in our community as the first and most important educators of their children in our Catholic faith. We have begun to meet together in retreats for an opportunity to encounter Christ and each other. Our families continue to enrich this relationship in their homes with prayer and reflections on the Mass, sacraments, and Scripture. Please pray for our families as we begin this journey of faith this year. Si desea obtener más información sobre nuestro programa de Fe Familiar en San Isidro, comuníquese con Michelle Knox mknox@stisidore-yubacity.org 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign The 40 days for life campaign began this past Wednesday, September 22, and will go through October 29. Please seriously consider how you can support this peripheral effort to end abortion in our community. For more information or to sign up for an hour, go to the website 40daysforlife.org or call Maureen at 713-8570. Gracias, Maureen Guth, 673-1437. Page 5 Mother Teresa's Words of Wisdom By abortion, the mother kills even her own child to solve her problems, By abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take responsibility at all for the child he brought into the world. The father is likely to place other women in the same trouble. So abortion leads to abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion. "It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish. How can there be too many children? That is like saying there are too many flowers," The first person in the world to welcome Jesus, to recognize Him in the womb of His mother was a child: John the Baptist. How wonderful, God chooses an unborn child to announce the coming of His redeeming Son. Madre Teresa

Men Need Brotherhood Fraternity is not just for religious orders. God created us to unite with each other in brotherhood. When men live their faith alone and isolated, they can become weak and vulnerable to the snares of the devil. When men live their faith together in true brotherhood, they become stronger together in Christ. Sin isolates us, while holiness unites us, and the unity that we are called to is not just with God alone, but with the whole Body of Christ. Like monastics, men can come together to live their faith loudly and open themselves up to the accountability and strength that comes from communion. That is why St. Isidore is happy to announce the launch of Fraternus! Fraternus is a Catholic brotherhood in which men are challenged to accept and live the reality that they are sons of God. As sons of God, they are truly brothers. And as men mature as brothers they in turn become fathers that pass on the faith. In Fraternus, we mentor young men from 5th grade through High School, and invite them to go deeper in their faith and to grow with their brothers in Christ. Interested? Talk with an officer or captain of Fraternus after Mass today. We meet each Tuesday night at 6:30 pm starting September 21st. Adore Him! The most powerful thing we can do on this earth with our time is to spend it in Eucharistic adoration. Nothing can do more to change the world, to bring about peace, to convert hearts, to make reparation for the many evils committed. Spending time in prayer may seem, on the outside, to be a passive thing; however, it is anything but! Our world is in desperate need of hope, of renewal, of a turning back to the things of God. By visiting Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, we take up the best weapon for the battles of our age and contribute to the healing of our culture. Cultivating a Eucharistic life of adoration also bears tremendous fruit in our own hearts and lives. We cannot spend time in the rays of His Eucharistic Presence without receiving His grace, His love, His mercy, His peace. As we gaze upon Him Face to face, we are transformed little by little into a closer reflection of His divine image. Poor Clare of Perpetual Adoration, p 37-38. Cuando visitemos a Nuestro Señor en el Santísimo Sacramento, tomemos el arma más fuerte Page 7 San Lorenzo Ruiz Novena and Mass will be celebrated at St. Isidore Church on: September 28 (Tuesday) at 6:00 p.m. Father Jovito Rata is the Celebrant. He doesn t need my help. I can t afford to give the big bucks like those families who sit up front can. My offering wouldn t matter even if I did increase it. Thinking like this is a good indication that we aren t in conversation with God about what His will is for our lives. If we have already decided what we are and are not meant to do, we aren t likely to pray over it, to discern it. We have to be open to the spirit of the Lord wherever it leads us, regardless of what we or others have come to expect from us. We human beings come to believe that we are such good judges of what others can offer or what we ourselves can offer. But God has plans for us to which we aren t privy. God calls everyone to serve Him in the way that pleases Him best, and only He can decide what that is. Everyday Stewardship demands a continual accounting of who we can be, what we can offer even if it s outside our comfort zone, even if it s something that never occurred to us before. There s only one Person who can tell us what God wants from us. Do we even think to ask Him? Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS LPi Page 9
