From the Pastor s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters: Del Escritorio del Pastor Queridos hermanos y hermanas: The Gospel of this Sunday shows how God forgives sinners and cares for them. Jesus tells the parables of the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and the Prodigal Son as a response to the murmuring of the Scribes and the Pharisees who failed to show compassion towards their fellow human beings. After telling the parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus comments that there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Similarly after the parable of the Lost Coin, Jesus says there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents. When the prodigal son returns, while he is yet at a distance, his father sees him, runs and embraces him and kisses him. He tells his servants to give him the best of robes, a ring for his hand, and shoes for his feet. He then orders a feast to be made with the best calf killed. St. Paul writes that Christ has come into the world to save sinners. He also acknowledges being the foremost of sinners. None of us is without sin. If Paul who blasphemed and persecuted and insulted Christ by insulting the Church and the Christians has become the pillar of the Church, then we also need not be afraid. Through repentance and good works we too can regain the life we have lost through our sins. Fr. Anil Thomas, S.V.D. El evangelio de este domingo nos muestra cómo Dios perdona a los pecadores y cuida de ellos. Jesús narra la parábola de la oveja perdida, la moneda perdida y el hijo pródigo, como respuesta a la murmuración de los escribas y de los Fariseos quienes no habían podido mostrar compasión hacia su prójimo. Después de narrar la parábola de la oveja perdida, Jesús comento que habría más alegría en el cielo por un solo pecador que se convirtiera que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitaban arrepentirse. De la misma manera, después de la parábola de la Moneda Perdida, Jesús dijo que hay mas gozo delante de los ángeles de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente. Cuando el hijo pródigo regresa, apenas su padre lo ve a distancia, corre y lo abraza y lo besa. Le pide a sus siervos que le den la mejor de las túnicas, un anillo para su mano, y zapatos para sus pies. Después ordena hacer una fiesta con los mejores terneros. San Pablo escribe que Cristo ha venido al mundo para salvar a los pecadores. Él también reconoce ser el primero de los pecadores. Ninguno de nosotros está sin pecado. Si Pablo quien blasfemo, persiguió, e insulto a Cristo insultando su Iglesia y a los cristianos se convirtió en el pilar de la Iglesia, entonces nosotros también debemos no tener miedo.
