When we go to Sunday Mass, how do we live it? There are very specific signals for understanding how we are living this, how we experience the Eucharist; signals that tell us if we are living the Eucharist in a good way or not very well. The first indicator is our way of looking at or considering others. In the Eucharist, Christ is always renewing his gift of self, which he made on the Cross. His whole life is an act of total sharing of self out of love; thus, he loved to be with his disciples and with the people whom he had a chance to know.

4 young people, the elderly, children; poor and well -off; locals and strangers alike; people with their families and people who are alone... But the Eucharist which I celebrate, does it lead me to truly feel they are all like brothers and sisters?...does it urge me to go out to the poor, the sick, the marginalized? Does it help me to recognize in theirs the face of Jesus? We all go to Mass because we love Jesus and we want to share, through the Eucharist, in his passion and his resurrection. But do we love, as Jesus wishes, those brothers and sisters who are the most needy?...we must concern ourselves with our brothers and sisters who need us because of an illness, a problem. A second indication, a very important one, is the grace of feeling forgiven and ready to forgive. At times someone may ask: Why must one go to Church, given that those who regularly participate in Holy Mass are still sinners like the others?. We have heard it many times! In reality, the one celebrating the Eucharist doesn t do so because he believes he is or wants to appear better than others, but precisely because he acknowledges that he is always in need of being accepted and reborn by the mercy of God, made flesh in Jesus Christ. A last valuable indication comes to us from the relationship between the Eucharistic Celebration and the life of our Christian communities. We must always bear in mind that the Eucharist is not something we make; it not our own commemoration of what Jesus said and did. No. It is precisely an act of Christ! It is Christ who acts there, who is on the altar. It is a gift of Christ, who makes himself present and gathers us around him, to nourish us with his Word and with his life...through the Eucharist, however, Christ wishes to enter into our life and permeate it with his grace, so that in every Christian community there may be coherence between liturgy and life. Let us live the Eucharist with the spirit of faith, of prayer, of forgiveness, of repentance, of communal joy, of concern for the needy and for the needs of so many brothers and sisters, in the certainty that the Lord will fulfil what he has promised us: eternal life. Hay indicadores muy concretos para comprender cómo vivimos todo esto, cómo vivimos la Eucaristía; indicadores que nos dicen si vivimos bien la Eucaristía o no la vivimos tan bien. El primer indicador es nuestro modo de mirar y considerar a los demás. En la Eucaristía Cristo vive siempre de nuevo el don de sí realizado en la Cruz. Toda su vida es un acto de total entrega de sí por amor; por ello, a Él le gustaba estar con los discípulos y con las personas que tenía ocasión de conocer... Ahora, nosotros, cuando participamos en la santa misa, nos encontramos con hombres y mujeres de todo tipo: jóvenes, ancianos, niños; pobres y acomodados; originarios del lugar y extranjeros; acompañados por familiares y solos... Pero la Eucaristía que celebro, me lleva a sentirles a todos, verdaderamente, como hermanos y hermanas? Me impulsa a ir hacia los pobres, los enfermos, los marginados? Me ayuda a reconocer en ellos el rostro de Jesús? Todos nosotros vamos a misa porque amamos a Jesús y queremos compartir, en la Eucaristía, su pasión y su resurrección. Pero amamos, como quiere Jesús, a aquellos hermanos y hermanas más necesitados?. Debemos preocuparnos de nuestros hermanos y de nuestras hermanas que pasan necesidad por una enfermedad, por un problema. Un segundo indicador, muy importante, es la gracia de sentirse perdonados y dispuestos a perdonar. A veces alguien pregunta: «Por qué se debe ir a la iglesia, si quien participa habitualmente en la santa misa es pecador como los demás?». Cuántas veces lo hemos escuchado! En realidad, quien celebra la Eucaristía no lo hace porque se considera o quiere aparentar ser mejor que los demás, sino precisamente porque se reconoce siempre necesitado de ser acogido y regenerado por la misericordia de Dios, hecha carne en Jesucristo. Un último indicio precioso nos ofrece la relación entre la celebración eucarística y la vida de nuestras comunidades cristianas. Es necesario tener siempre presente que la Eucaristía no es algo que hacemos nosotros; no es una conmemoración

5 para nutrirnos con su Palabra y su vida... A través de la Eucaristía, en cambio, Cristo quiere entrar en nuestra existencia e impregnarla con su gracia, de tal modo que en cada comunidad cristiana exista esta coherencia entre liturgia y vida. Vivamos la Eucaristía con espíritu de fe, de oración, de perdón, de penitencia, de alegría comunitaria, de atención hacia los necesitados y hacia las necesidades de tantos hermanos y hermanas, con la certeza de que el Señor cumplirá lo que nos ha prometido: la vida eterna. Que así sea. Lorenza served as Religious Education teacher in our program for many years. Please remember her and her family in your prayers. Matilde Ramos who was a member of the 8:00am choir mass for many years and member of the Guadalupes, passed away Friday, July 31, A service was held on Wednesday, August 5 at Lawndale Funeral Home. Please remember her in your prayers. Jaime Delgadillo a faithful and longtime parishioner of our community passed away this past Monday. A Funeral Service was celebrated in Holy Name on Saturday, August 15. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.
