C (919) May 3, 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian: Summer can be a season full of good times and fun memories, but did you know that kids may experience learning losses when they don t read during the summer? Reading, like any skill, requires practice, and it s important that students take the time to read during the summer in order to keep their skills sharp. Children who read during the summer gain skills, can start the new school year with a better understanding of language and the world around them, and discover the joy of reading. The more they like to read, the more they will read. Reading goes hands in hand with all subject areas. To keep our students reading and reviewing the skills over the summer, we are inviting students in grade kindergarten eighth grade to join the Greater Waltown United Holy Church Summer Reading and Math Program beginning June 24, 2015 at 6:00 p. m. to 7:30 p.m. To participate in the program you must complete the registration form that is attached to this letter. You and your child must attend the meetings together because we will be teaching you and your child skills and strategies for next school year. There is no charge to participate. All students who successfully complete the Book Club requirements will attend the Grand Finale on July 29, The goals of the Greater Waltown Summer Enrichment Program are for the students and parents to: 1) Learn active reading and math strategies and note-taking skills in an interactive, small-group setting 2) Participate in discussions to deepen analytical thoughts and 3) Review standards that were taught this past school year. In order to review the reading and math strategies, students will be asked to complete homework. C (919) Mayo 3, 2015 Estimados Padres y Guardian(s): El verano puede ser una temporada llena de buenos momentos y recuerdos divertidos, pero sabía usted que los niños pueden experimentar el aprendizaje de las pérdidas cuando no leen durante el verano? Lectura, como cualquier habilidad, requiere práctica, y es importante que los estudiantes tomen el tiempo para leer durante el verano con el fin de mantener sus habilidades agudas. Los niños que leen durante las habilidades de ganancia de verano, pueden empezar el nuevo año escolar con una mejor comprensión del lenguaje y el mundo que les rodea, y descubrir el placer de la lectura. Para participar en el programa, debe completar el formulario de inscripción que se adjunta a esta carta. Usted y su hijo deben asistir a las reuniones en conjunto porque vamos a estar enseñando a usted y su niño las habilidades y estrategias para el próximo año escolar. No hay ningún cargo para participar.
