The Independent Schools of South Florida (ISSF) is an organization of about 70 accredited nonpublic schools joined together to share information, provide professional learning and celebrate students. Every year, ISSF holds a luncheon during which they honor students from many schools with Star Awards. This award recognizes exemplary students who set an example for others to follow, whether in the home, school or community, excelling in one or more areas such as academics, community service, citizenship, fine arts, athletics, dedication, and attitude. This year, three OLL eighth graders were honored at the annual luncheon: Vanessa Perez-Robles, Cecilia Tome, Daniel Quesada. Congratulations to these students and their families! We are very proud! Leadership Workshop On Friday, April 27, Our Lady of the Lakes hosted its 6 th Annual Leadership Workshop. Sixty four students representing six different Catholic schools attended the workshop. Besides the Student Council from Our Lady of the Lakes, student leaders from St. John the Apostle, St. Mary s, St. James, Immaculate Conception and Mother of our Redeemer participated in the day s activities. The day began with Mass in our church followed by three workshop sessions. One of the highlights of the day was guest speaker Mrs. Gretel Kunkel, Vice President for Commercial Excellence for Global Emerging Markets for Stanley Black and Decker. She spoke to students about qualities of a good leader and how these skills are important in leading and not just managing others. We look forward to next year s Leadership Workshop. Vocation Cup We thank the following families for hosting the Vocation Cup this past week: The Pinilla Family The Reyes Family The Vocation Blessing Cup is a wonderful instrument of prayer and devotion for our parish families. The Cup reminds each host family that it is their responsibility to pray for and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. A family is asked to host the Vocation Cup for one week. It will travel from home to home as a sign of our total parish commitment to praying for vocations.
