3 INTRODUCTION Congratulations! You now own one of the most advanced products for today s water filtration needs. Your new Aqua LED Ceramic Water Filter is equipped with a state-ofthe-art electronic flow meter that monitors filter life and takes the guess-work out of when to replace the Combined Media Filter (CMF) Cartridge. Your filter is both compact and portable, and designed for convenient counter-top use. The unique, multi-function CMF Cartridge improves the quality of your water supply, providing you and your family with filtered water via a 2-stage filtration system: Stage 1: Mechanical Filtration A cleanable ceramic outer shell mechanically filters particles while significantly increasing the life of the carbon block and maximizing the life of the CMF Cartridge. Stage 2: Advanced Carbon Block Technology The second stage utilizes carbon block technology and a special sorbent media to reduce aesthetic chlorine, tastes, odors, lead, and cysts. The Aqua LED has a rated capacity of 11,355 liters (3,000 gallons) or up to 36 months. The actual capacity depends on the amount of suspended solids and particles in your local water system and the frequency with which you clean the ceramic outer shell of the CMF Cartridge. In certain water supplies, tastes or odors may return or the flow may decrease prior to the rated capacity. In these cases the CMF Cartridge should be cleaned and replaced more often. The Aqua LED Water Filter is designed for filtering cold water only. Tested and Certified by WQA against WQA ORD0902 for low lead compliance, NSF/ANSI 42 for the reduction of aesthetic chlorine, taste and odor, and NSF/ANSI 53 for the reduction of lead and cysts as verified and substantiated by test data. 3

5 Set-Up Remove the Aqua LED from the shipping box, remove packing materials, and compare box contents with the packing diagram. (Figure 1) 1. Unscrew the filter housing from the base assembly by holding the base securely and turning the filter housing in a counterclockwise direction. 2. Remove the protective packaging material from the CMF Cartridge. IMPORTANT NOTE: This packaging material must be removed and the CMF cartridge inspected before use to be sure the cartridge has not become dislodged or damaged during shipping. 3. After checking the CMF Cartridge, screw the housing gently but firmly back into the base. Do not overtighten. 4. Using padded or locking pliers, remove the existing aerator from your faucet. (Figure 2) Figure 2 5. Remove the protective foam wrap from the diverter valve assembly. NOTE: There are two diverter valve gaskets provided, however, only one is needed. Using the thick gasket first, thread the diverter valve onto the faucet, hand tighten only. (Figure 3) Do not over tighten as it could damage the threads. If the diverter valve does not thread on properly, unscrew and use the thinner gasket. Figure 3 NOTE: If the diverter valve is not compatible with your faucet, you may obtain an adapter. Contact your Rena Ware representative or the Rena Ware Customer Service Center for more information. 5

Place the Aqua LED on a flat counter surface near the sink.with the water spout pointing into the sink, turn on the COLD water faucet and divert the water through the filter by turning the diverter valve s butterfly handle 90. Check for leaks. To stop the flow through the filter, turn off the faucet or turn the butterfly handle in the opposite direction. (Figure 4) Figure 4 Your Rena Ware Aqua LED Ceramic Water Filter is ready for you to enjoy! Maintenance The Flow Meter Your Aqua LED features a visual flow meter integrated into the base of the unit. (Figure 5) When water is flowing through your filter, one of the LED (light emitting diode) lights will flash to indicate the following: Figure 5 water ON light emitting diodes water OFF 7. Run COLD water through the filter for 10 minutes, do not use the filter or 24 hours, and then run COLD water through the filter for another 10 minutes. This will remove any impurities from the manufacturing process and expel excess air. NOTE: For best results, after sitting overnight or after several hours of non-use, run water through the filter for 15 seconds before using. If the filter sits for more than 48 hours of non-use, run water through filter for 5 minutes before using. Filtering : This light gives off two color indicators (alternating green and blue) indicating the two stages of filtration are functioning normally. Reorder : The yellow warning light lets you know approximately 300 gallons of life is left in the CMF Cartridge. Contact your Rena Ware Consultant or Rena Ware Customer Service Center to order a replacement. Replace : The red warning light indicates the filter s effectiveness has most likely ended. Replace the CMF Cartridge before continuing to use your filter. 6

7 Cleaning the Exterior of the Aqua LED To clean the exterior of your filter, use a clean, damp cloth and mild, nonabrasive dish washing soap. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. NOTE: Do not let the unit stand in water as the battery compartment could get moisture in it if left in a wet area for too long. Cleaning the CMF Cartridge Clean the CMF Cartridge whenever the water-flow falls below an acceptable rate. Sanitary precautions should be taken whenever handling soiled components of your filter. We suggest using thin waterproof gloves. IMPORTANT NOTE: When handling the CMF cartridge, always hold it gently but firmly in the center with one hand. Never hold it by the fitted end as it may crack or break. 1. There will be water in the filter housing. To reduce spillage, invert the filter over the sink. 2. While holding the base firmly, unscrew the filter housing from the base assembly by turning in a clockwise direction. Drain out the water and set the housing aside. 3. Turn the filter base right-side up, then remove the CMF Cartridge from the base by pulling it up with a twisting motion. 4. Dampen and scrub the CMF Cartridge with a scouring pad (included in the maintenance kit) until the cartridge returns to its original white color, then rinse thoroughly with cold water. (Figure 6) Figure 6 NOTE: Never use soap or detergents to clean the CMF cartridge. Be sure to be very gentle when handling the CMF Cartridge as it is fragile and will break if dropped. 5. Reassemble the filter by following steps 5-8 of Replacing the CMF Cartridge. 7

8 Replacing the CMF Cartridge When the flow meter s red warning light flashes, replace your old CMF Cartridge with a new one. IMPORTANT NOTE: It is very important to use the same kind of CMF cartridge that was shipped with your filter as the values programmed into the water meter apply only to genuine Rena Ware parts. 5. Insert the CMF Cartridge into the filter base by applying a sliding pressure straight down, then twist the CMF Cartridge to slide it into place. (Figure 7) Figure 7 1. Follow steps 1, 2, and 3 under Cleaning the CMF Cartridge. 2. Properly discard the used CMF Cartridge. NOTE: Do not discard the large O-ring. 3. Fill the filter housing with warm soapy water and scrub the inside surface with a soft brush or sponge. To avoid scratches, do not use abrasive pads or cleaners inside the filter housing. Rinse thoroughly. 4. Remove the plastic wrap and label from the replacement CMF Cartridge. 6. Coat the large O-ring with silicone lubricating gel (included in the maintenance kit) and place it in the base. If the O-ring is worn, replace it with the extra one included in the original maintenance kit. 8

9 7. Turning clockwise, screw the filter housing back into the base. (Figure 8) Figure 8 9. Position the filter so that the water spout points into the sink. Run COLD water through the filter for 10 minutes, do not use the filter for 24 hours, and then run COLD water through the filter for another 10 minutes. 8. After the cartridge has been replaced, open the battery compartment in the bottom of the base and replace the old batteries with two new, high-quality AAA batteries. This will reset the flow meter to 0 and the green and blue LED light will start flashing again when water is flowing through the filter. Lubricating the Diverter Valve Over time, a diverter valve may lose its lubrication and become more difficult to operate. To improve the operation, place a small drop of silicone lubricating gel (or petroleum jelly, e.g. Vaseline ) at the points shown. Then turn the valve handle back and forth several times to spread the lubricant to all moving parts. 9 VALVE STEM Apply lubricant here, and on opposite side

10 Low Water Pressure Installations: If the Aqua LED is installed in an extremely low water pressure environment, then the filter housing may not completely fill with water. This will limit the use of the CMF Cartridge to the height of the water in the filter housing. To remedy this, we suggest the following: 1. Clean the CMF Cartridge if dirty. (See Cleaning the CMF Cartridge, steps 1 through 4.) 2. Replace the CMF Cartridge in the filter base and set aside. 3. Invert the filter housing and fill completely with tap water. (Figure 9) 4. Over the sink, place the CMF Cartridge and filter base into the inverted filter housing. NOTE: Take care when inverting the CMF Cartridge, as the CMF Cartridge may be heavy when saturated with water and could fall from the base and break. Use your fingers to hold the CMF Cartridge in the base until the filter housing is in place. Some of the water in the filter housing will be displaced by the CMF Cartridge. 5. Rotate the filter housing in a clockwise direction until it is tightly attached to the filter base. (Figure 10) 6. Before righting the filter, wipe dry it with a clean towel. 7. 11 Troubleshooting 1. Water is not coming out of the water spout Turn the diverter valve to the proper on position. Make sure the tubing is smooth and straight, without kinks. Inspect the CMF Cartridge as it may have become dirty, preventing water from flowing properly. If this is the case, clean the cartridge. (See Cleaning the CMF Cartridge.) 2. Water leaks out of filter housing Check the filter housing and hand-tighten until water stops leaking. If water continues to leak out of the filter housing, follow steps 1 and 2, under Cleaning the CMF Cartridge to drain the filter and unscrew the housing. Check to make sure the O-ring is properly seated in the housing. A small amount of silicone lubricating gel (or petroleum jelly) can be applied to the O-ring to help hold it in place. NOTE: Do not use vegetable, animal or motor oil. 3. Water leaks from the tubing If water is leaking at the diverter valve, push the tubing firmly over the diverter valve barb. Make sure the inlet tube is attached to the barb of the diverter valve, and the clamp is tight tighten if necessary. Check the tubing for cuts or nicks. If a portion of the tubing is leaking, it must be replaced. Contact the Rena Ware Customer Service Center for replacement parts. 4. Water continues to flow out of the water spout after water is turned off Water may continue to flow from the water spout for a short time due to a build-up of pressure within the filter but will typically stop by itself. You may also turn the diverter valve s butterfly handle to the off position to activate your tap water faucet which will stop water coming from the water spout. 5. Non-Functioning Flow Meter If the electronic flow meter stops functioning, the meter may need to be reset by taking the batteries out and putting them back in. When this procedure is done, the flow meter will lose all reference of the amount of gallons that have flowed through the CMF Cartridge. As such, we recommend that you change both the batteries and the CMF Cartridge if the cartridge has been in service for more than three months. 11

13 The Aqua 3 Limited Warranty Warranty Rena Ware warrants its Aqua 3 water filtration systems to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. This Product is for home use on municipally treated water only. The Warranty does not cover damage resulting from use of the Product on water having high chemical interference, suspended materials or visual solids. The Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear of valving connections, rubber and plastic parts, or ceramics. The Warranty does not cover defects resulting from misuse, abuse, negligence, accident, use of the Product in a manner other than as described in the instructions and on the specifications label, repairs or alteration outside a Rena Ware facility, or lack of maintenance. Use of replacement parts other than genuine Rena Ware replacement parts or removal of the specifications label will void this Warranty. The Warranty does not cover incidental or consequential damages resulting from the use of this Product. Remedy in the Event of Warranty Claim At its option, Rena Ware will repair or replace a Product, or any part thereof, which is determined to be defective. If a replacement is made, the Product for which the replacement is made becomes the property of Rena Ware. This remedy shall be the exclusive remedy available. To Obtain Warranty Service To obtain warranty service, send a detailed written description of the claimed defect to the closest Rena Ware Service Center. You may be required to return the Product, at your expense, to the nearest Rena Ware Service Center in order to obtain warranty service. You may also be required to provide proof of purchase. If, after inspection, Rena Ware determines that a covered defect exists, Rena Ware will bear the cost of return delivery. 15 INTRODUCCIÓN Felicitaciones! Es dueño de uno de los productos más avanzados para las necesidades actuales de filtración de agua. 17 INSTALACIÓN Saque el Aqua LED de la caja, quite el material de embalaje y compare el contenido de la caja con el contenido del empaque (Figura 1). 1. Desenrosque el alojamiento del filtro del montaje de la base, sujetando la base firmemente y girando el alojamiento del filtro hacia la izquierda. 2. Quite el material de embalaje protector del Cartucho CMF. AVISO IMPORTANTE: Se debe quitar este material de embalaje y revisar el Cartucho CMF antes de usarlo para asegurarse de que no se haya desprendido o dañado durante el envío. 3. Después de revisar el Cartucho CMF, enrosque el alojamiento con cuidado, pero con firmeza, en la base. No lo apriete demasiado 4. Con pinzas con las puntas acolchadas o con dispositivo de inmovilización quite el aireador de su grifo (Figura 2). 5. Quite la espuma protectora del montaje de la válvula desviadora. NOTA: Se incluyen dos juntas para la válvula desviadora; sin embargo, solo necesita una. Usando la junta gruesa primero, enrosque la válvula desviadora al grifo, apriétela con sus manos solamente. (Figura 3). No la apriete demasiado ya que podría dañarse la rosca. Si la válvula desviadora no se enrosca correctamente, desenrósquela y use la junta más delgada. NOTA: Si la válvula desviadora no es compatible con su grifo, puede obtener un adaptador. 18 6. Coloque el Aqua LED sobre una superficie plana cerca del fregadero. Con el grifo apuntando hacia el fregadero, haga correr agua FRÍA y desvíe el agua por el filtro haciendo girar la llave mariposa de la válvula desviadora 90º. Asegúrese de que no hayan fugas. Para detener el flujo por el filtro, cierre la llave o gire la llave mariposa en dirección opuesta (Figura 4). Mantenimiento Medidor de flujo Su Aqua LED tiene un medidor visual de flujo integrado en la base de la unidad. (Figura 5). Cuando el agua fluye por el filtro, una de las luces LED (diodo emisor de luz) se enciende para indicar: Figura 5 agua abierta agua cerrada 7. Haga correr agua FRÍA por el filtro durante 10 minutos, no utilice el filtro durante 24 horas y luego haga correr agua FRÍA por el filtro durante otros 10 minutos. Esto eliminará cualquier impureza que haya quedado del proceso de fabricación y eliminará e exceso de aire. NOTA: Para obtener mejores resultados, luego de dejarlo sin uso durante toda la noche o durante varias horas, haga correr agua por el filtro durante 15 segundos antes de utilizarlo. Si el filtro no se utiliza durante más de 48 horas, haga correr agua por el filtro durante 5 minutos antes de utilizarlo. 18 diodos emisores de luz Filtering : Esta luz emite dos colores (alterna entre verde y azul) que indican que las dos etapas de filtración están funcionando correctamente. Reorder : La luz de advertencia amarilla indica que al Cartucho CMF le queda una vida útil aproximada de 300 galones. Comuníquese con su Asesor de Rena Ware o con el Centro de Servicio al Cliente de Rena Ware para ordenar un repuesto. Replace : La luz roja de advertencia indica que la vida útil del filtro probablemente ha finalizado. Reemplace el Cartucho CMF antes de continuar usando el filtro.

19 Limpieza del exterior del Aqua LED Para limpiar el exterior del filtro, use una tela limpia húmeda y jabón suave, no abrasivo. Enjuague bien con agua tibia. NOTA: No deje la unidad sobre una superficie mojada por mucho tiempo, ya que la humedad puede penetrar el compartimiento de las baterías. Limpieza del Cartucho CMF 3. Agarre el filtro con la base boca arriba, luego quite el Cartucho CMF de la base halándolo hacia arriba con movimiento giratorio. 4. Humedezca y restriegue el Cartucho CMF con una almohadilla (incluida en el equipo de mantenimiento), hasta que vuelva a su color blanco original, luego enjuague bien con agua fría (Figura 6). Figura 6 Limpie el Cartucho CMF cuando el flujo de agua llegue a un nivel inaceptable. Se deben tomar precauciones sanitarias cuando se manejen los componentes sucios del filtro. Sugerimos usar guantes de goma delgados. AVISO IMPORTANTE: Cuando tome el Cartucho CMF, sosténgalo con cuidado, pero firmemente por el centro, con una mano. Nunca debe agarrarlo por la rosca ya que se puede agrietar o romper. 1. El alojamiento del filtro tendrá agua. Para reducir derrames invierta el filtro sobre el fregadero. 2. Mientras sostiene la base firmemente, destornille el alojamiento del filtro del montaje de la base girándolo en sentido de las agujas del reloj. Saque el agua y coloque el alojamiento a un lado. NOTA: Nunca use jabón o detergente para limpiar el Cartucho CMF. Asegúrese de tomar el Cartucho CMF con mucho cuidado ya que es frágil y se romperá si se cae. 5. Vuelva a montar el filtro, siguiendo los pasos 5-8 del Reemplazo del Cartucho CMF. 19

20 Reemplazo del Cartucho CMF Cuando titile la luz roja de advertencia del medido de flujo, reemplace el Cartucho CMF con uno nuevo. AVISO IMPORTANTE: Es muy importante utilizar el mismo tipo de Cartucho CMF que vino con su filtro original ya que los valores de fábrica del medidor de flujo de agua sirven solo para las piezas de Rena Ware originales. 5. Inserte el Cartucho CMF en la base del filtro aplicando poca presión hacia abajo, luego gire el Cartucho CMF para que encaje en su sitio. (Figura 7) Figura 7 1. Siga los pasos 1, 2 y 3 que aparecen en la sección Limpieza del Cartucho CMF. 2. Deseche el Cartucho CMF usado en forma apropiada. NOTA: No deseche el anillo de goma grande. 3. Llene el alojamiento del filtro con agua tibia jabonosa y limpie la superficie interior con un cepillo suave o una esponja. Para evitar ralladuras, no use almohadillas o limpiadores abrasivos dentro del alojamiento del filtro. Enjuague bien 4. Quite el envoltorio de plástico y la etiqueta del Cartucho CMF de reemplazo. 6. Cubra el anillo de goma grande con gel lubricante de silicona (incluida en el equipo de mantenimiento) y colóquelo en la base. Si el anillo de goma está desgastado, reemplácelo con el anillo adicional incluido en el equipo de mantenimiento original. 20

21 7. Enrosque el alojamiento del filtro en la base, en sentido de las agujas del reloj. (Figura 8) Figura 8 8. Luego de reemplazar el cartucho, abra el compartimiento de las baterías debajo de la base y reemplace las baterías viejas por dos nuevas AAA de buena calidad. Esto reajustará el medidor de flujo en 0 y la luz LED de color verde y azul comenzará a titilar de nuevo cuando el agua fluya por el filtro. 9. Coloque el filtro de manera que el grifo quede dentro del fregadero. Haga correr agua FRÍA por el filtro durante 10 minutos, no use el filtro durante 24 horas y luego haga correr agua FRÍA por el filtro durante otros 10 minutos. Lubricación de la válvula desviadora Con el tiempo, la válvula desviadora puede perder su lubricación, evitando que funcione correctamente. Para mejorar su funcionamiento coloque una pequeña gota de gel lubricante de silicona (o Vaselina ) en los puntos indicados. Luego gire la varilla de la válvula en ambas direcciones varias veces para que el gel lubricante penetre por todas las piezas móviles. 22 Instalación en áreas con baja presión de agua Si instala el filtro Aqua LED en un lugar donde la presión de agua sea extremadamente baja, quizás el alojamiento del filtro no se llene completamente de agua. Esto limitará el uso del Cartucho CMF hasta el nivel que llegue el agua en el alojamiento del filtro. Para corregirlo, le sugerimos el siguiente procedimiento: 1. Limpie el Cartucho CMF si está sucio. (Vea los pasos 1 al 4 de la sección Limpieza del Cartucho CMF ). 2. Reemplace el Cartucho CMF en la base del filtro y déjelo a un lado. 3. Invierta el alojamiento del filtro y llénelo con agua del grifo (Figura 9). 4. En el fregadero, coloque el Cartucho CMF y la base del filtro en el alojamiento del filtro invertido. NOTA: Tenga cuidado al invertir el Cartucho CMF ya que puede estar pesado cuando esté lleno de agua, por lo que se puede caer de la base y quebrarse. Sostenga el Cartucho CMF en la base con los dedos hasta que el alojamiento del filtro calce en su lugar. Parte del agua del alojamiento del filtro será desplazada por el Cartucho CMF. 5. Gire el alojamiento del filtro en sentido de las agujas del reloj hasta que quede bien sujeto a la base del filtro (Figura 10). 6. Antes de enderezar el filtro, séquelo con una toalla limpia. 7. Haga correr el agua y verifique que no haya fugas. Figura 9 Figura 10 22

23 Resolución de problemas 1. No sale agua del grifo... Ajuste la clavija de la válvula desviadora en la posición abierta. Asegúrese de que la manguera esté derecha y sin dobleces. Revise el Cartucho CMF ya que puede estar sucio, impidiendo que el agua fluya correctamente. De ser así, limpie el cartucho (Vea la sección Limpieza del Cartucho CMF ). 2. Hay fuga de agua por el alojamiento del filtro... Revise el alojamiento del filtro y apriételo con las manos hasta que deje de gotear. Si el agua continúa goteando del alojamiento, siga los pasos 1 y 2 de la sección Limpieza del Cartucho CMF para vaciar el filtro y desenroscar el alojamiento. Asegúrese de que el anillo de goma calce correctamente en el alojamiento. Puede colocar una pequeña cantidad de gel lubricante de silicona. NOTA: No use aceite vegetal, animal o para motores. 3. Hay fuga de agua por la tubería Si hay fuga de agua por la válvula desviadora, empuje el tubo firmemente sobre la lengüeta de la válvula desviadora. Asegúrese de que el tubo de entrada esté conectado a la lengüeta de la válvula desviadora y que la abrazadera esté ajustada, apriétela de ser necesario. Revise la tubería para asegurarse de que no tenga cortes ni hendiduras. Si hay fuga de agua por la manguera, debe reemplazarla. Comuníquese con la Oficina de Servicio al Cliente de Rena Ware para ordenar repuestos. 4. El agua continúa saliendo por el grifo después de que cerrar la llave... Un poco de agua puede continuar saliendo del grifo un poco después de que se cierre la llave debido a la presión creada dentro del filtro, pero por lo general dejará de salir. También puede girar la válvula desviadora mariposa para cerrarla, lo que activará la llave del fregadero y cortará el flujo de agua del grifo del filtro. 5. El medidor de flujo de agua no funciona... Si el medidor de flujo electrónico deja de funcionar, tal vez sea necesario reajustarlo sacando las baterías y volviendo a instalarlas. Luego de hacerlo, el medidor de flujo perderá toda información referente a la cantidad de galones filtrados por el Cartucho CMF, por lo que recomendamos cambiar las baterías y el Cartucho CMF después de más de tres meses de uso. 23
