4 EN Water filter Instruction manual EN This product has been tested and certified by the Water Quality Association according to NSF/ ANSI 42 for the reduction of Aesthetic Chlorine and to NSF/ANSI 53 for the reduction of Copper, as verified and substantiated by the test data, and to CSA B CAUTION: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. PREPARATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE 1) First of all wash your hands. 2) Remove the cartridge from the bag (fig. A) and shake it for 10 seconds (fig. B). 3) Soak the cartridge in cold tap water for 15 minutes (fig. C). Shake it again to remove air bubbles. 4) Insert cartridge into the hole of the hopper. Press the cartridge firmly in (fig. D). 5) Fill the hopper with cold tap water to the top and let it filter through without closing the lid (fig. E). 6) Discard this water (or use for plants). The first litres of filtered water could be of a dark colour due to the carbon particles dispersed in the water. These particles have no negative health effects. 7) Repeat this operation (points 5 and 6) 3 times. 8) Remove the cartridge and put it on a clean surface (for example a dish). Wash all components. For the water pitcher lid please refer to the paragraph care of system, 1) washing instructions for the carafe lid Insert the hopper in the jug and the cartridge in the hopper. ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE LIFE INDICATOR 1 Water filter with replaceable electronic litres-counter indicator Take the lid. Keep the O/I key pressed for some seconds until the number 0 and a circle made of 4 sections stay fixed on the display (fig.1a). The digits indicate the litres already filtered (up to a maximum of 1 litres); the circle made of 4 sections indicates the time still available for filtration (fig.1a). Close the lid and filter 1 litre. The electronic display shows the number 1 and it is activated. The electronic display shows the number of litres already filtred and the residual useful life of the cartridge (fig.1b - fig. 1c - fig. 1d). Once 1 litres have been filtered and/or after 60 days from the activation date, the numeric indicator returns automatically to 0 and starts blinking: the filtering cartridge must be replaced (fig.1e). Important: If you keep the O/I key pressed for some seconds, the display zeroes automatically the calculation performed until that moment and reactivates the total filtering capacity. The useful life of the replaceable electronic cartridge life indicator is about 2 years. After 2 years have elapsed, the display of the electronic indicator will not display any symbol anymore. Ask your dealer for a spare electronic indicator. 2 Water filter with rectangular replaceable electronic cartridge life indicator Take the lid. Keep the O/I key pressed for some seconds until 4 black bars stay fixed on the display (fig.2a). Fit lid onto jug and filter 1 litre: the black bars will flash 3 times to show that the electronic counter has been properly activated (4 black bars correspond to 8 weeks). The cartridge life indicator shows that the total filtering capacity is now (fig.2b). The cartridge life indicator shows that the total filtering capacity is now (fig.2c). When the cartridge needs to be replaced, the display will show t (fig.2d). Important: The useful life of the replaceable electronic cartridge life indicator is about 2 years. After 2 years have elapsed, the display of the electronic indicator will not display any symbol anymore. Ask your dealer for a spare electronic indicator. Keep the I/O key pressed for some seconds until 4 black bars stay fixed on the display (fig4a). Fit lid onto jug: the black bars will flash 3 times to show that the electronic counter has been properly activated (4 black bars correspond to 8 weeks). The cartridge life indicator shows that the total filtering capacity is now (fig.4b). The cartridge life indicator shows that the total filtering capacity is now (fig. 4c). When the cartridge needs to be replaced, the display will show t (fig.4d). Important notice: The useful life of the trapezoidal electronic cartridge life indicator is about 2 years. After 2 years have elapsed, the display of the electronic indicator will not display any symbol anymore. Ask your dealer for a spare lid. CAUTION: in the electronic counters, at the end of the cartridge life, the display blinks until it reaches the sleeping mode, in order to avoid battery consumption. When replacing the cartridge, re-activate the display as indicated in the paragraph ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT INDICATOR. FILLING OF THE WATER FILTER Water filter with automatic pour through lid Place the water filter system directly under the tap so that the water jet enters directly into the hopper through the opening on the lid. Turn on the tap (the pressure of the water jet should not be too strong, in order to avoid splashes): water opens the device automatically. Fill the hopper to the top with cold tap water (fig.f1). The automatic pour through lid closes gradually, as the hopper fills: turn off the tap when the device closes (fig. F2). It is recommended to check, from one side of the jug, the water level present in the hopper. Water filter without automatic pour through lid Fill in the hopper with the first water litre to the top (fig.f3) and close the lid. Once the water is completely filtered, it is possible to use it or to fill the hopper again. Your jug is now ready for use. To ensure optimum performance it is recommended not to filter more than 5 litres a day (do not filter 1 litre sooner than minutes from previous one). The filtering cartridge has to be replaced every 1 litres / 60 filtration days (maximum product efficiency and safety is assured when this instruction is observed). REPLACEMENT OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE To replace the filter cartridge remove it from the hopper (fig.g). Refer to section above PREPARATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE CARE OF SYSTEM 1) Washing instructions for the carafe lid. Lid with removable rectangular electronic indicator of cartridge life. Remove the lid of the carafe. Take out the electronic indicator by raising the lever located on the upper part. Then hand wash the lid in warm water and washing-up liquid. Dry the lid and slot the electronic indicator back into its housing. Lid with removable trapezoidal electronic indicator of cartridge life. Remove the lid from the carafe and check that the magnet is on the underside of the lid (see Fig. H). Remove the electronic indicator by turning the lid over on to the back of your hand with a smart tap (see Fig. I). Then hand wash the lid in warm water and washing-up liquid. Dry the lid and slot the electronic indicator back into its housing. Lid with non-removable trapezoidal electronic indicator of cartridge life. Remove the lid from the carafe. Hand wash the lid in soap and water, then rinse under the tap. Dry the lid. 1 2

5 EN Water filter Instruction manual EN 2) Wash the water filter system at least 2-3 times per week (excluding the cartridge) in warm soapy water, do not use any abrasive cleaners. 3) Never wash the cartridge with soap or detergents. 4) Should your water filter system not be used for 48 hours, it is recommended to empty the water, remove the cartridge, wash all parts thoroughly, re-insert the cartridge into the hopper and keep the empty water filter system in the fridge. Before using the water filter system again read the section PREPARATION OF THE FILTER CARTRIDGE. 5) The water filter jug has to be kept in the fridge. The fridge has to be kept in good hygiene. 6) Do not expose LAICA water filter to direct sunlight. Keep your water filter away from heating elements. 7) Use only cold water (+4 C : +30 C). 8) Filter only water. Do not filter any other type of liquid. 9) It is recommended to use the filtered water within 48 hours of filtration. 10)Use only Laica cartridges for your protection. IMPORTANT TIPS 1) People affected by specific diseases, allergies or following controlled diets should refer to a doctor before using the water filter jugs by LAICA. 2) Do not break the cartridge for any reason whatsoever. 3) Stop the use of filter jug when emergency situations are signaled by the competent authorities. Then, contact the manager of the water supply for more information. 4) The filtering cartridge by Laica assures an effective bacteriostatic protection thanks to the silver presence. Any silver release complies with the guidelines set forth by the World Health Organization (WHO) and complies with the parameters of the European Directive 98/38/EC concerning the quality of water for human consumption. 5) Laica filtration system preserves the natural balance of mineral salts of calcium and magnesium present in tap water. The overall average hardness (sum of the elements calcium and magnesium) of the filtered water, during the entire life cycle of the cartridge, does not undergo substantial variations with respect to the hardness of the water before filtration. 6) Laica filtration system keeps the PH within the range of values set forth by the European Directive 98/83/EC, concerning the quality of water for human consumption. 7) The filtration system may slightly increase the content of sodium with regard to water before treatment. Should this change occur, it is in any case very small and the final value is remarkably lower than the maximum value for this parameter. 8) The filtration system can slightly vary the hardness of water before treatment. 9) Laica invites you to carry out a preventive assessment of local tap water in order to use the filtration system in conscious manner. 10) Laica filtration system does not release potassium. 11) Laica filtration system does not release ammonium. 12) Laica filtration system does not release bisphenol A 13) Laica filtration system does not release epichlorohydrin, polyvinyl chloride, acrylamide. DISPOSAL PROCEDURE (DIR. 2002/96/EC - WEEE) LAICA ELECTRONIC CARTRIDGE LIFE INDICATOR The Laica electronic cartridge life indicators have a life of approximately two years. At the end of their life please remember that these devices contain batteries and must be disposed according to all applicable laws and regulations. To remove the exhausted Laica cartridge life indicators follow the instruction at the section activation of the cartridge life indicator for your specific model. WATER PITCHER AND FILTER The water pitcher components and the filter must be disposed according to the regulations of belonging municipality. LIMITED WARRANTY This limited warranty covers the purchase of a new LAICA WATER FILTER PITCHER/DISPENSER for personal or household use. LAICA warrants that this product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship (normal wear and tear excepted) for NINETY (90) DAYS from the date of purchase, when used strictly in accordance with instructions. During the 90-day period, if you discover that any parts of the pitcher/dispenser are damaged or broken, whether due to manufacturing defects or shipping, we will replace the damaged part(s) free of charge. You will be responsible for the cost of shipping. This warranty applies only to purchases made in the United States and does not apply to damage caused by misuse, accident or other circumstances not directly attributable to a manufacturing defect or shipping. PROBLEMS Water flow slows down until stopping Presence of dark residues inside the jug The electronic indicator does not turn on TROUBLESHOOTING 1) The filtering cartridge has not been properly activated. Repeat the procedure described under paragraph PREPARATION OF THE FILTERING CARTRIDGE. 2) Air bubbles may build up inside the filtering cartridge, thus hindering the normal water flow. Remove the filter, immerse it into water letting the air bubbles come out, drip it and then insert it again into the hopper. 1) Vegetable carbon contained in the filter may release some fine powder (which is absolutely not noxious). Repeat the procedure described under paragraph PREPARATION OF THE FILTERING CARTRIDGE remembering to insert the cartridge in the suitable anti-sediment system. 1) The electronic indicator has not been properly activated. Repeat the procedure described under the paragraph ACTIVATION OF THE CARTRIDGE LIFE INDICATOR. 2) The battery is exhausted. Ask your dealer for a spare electronic indicator. In case of doubt concerning the activation time of the last filtering cartridge, replace it with a new one. 3 4

6 ES Filtro de agua Instrucciones y garantía ES Este producto ha sido testado y certificado por la Asociación de Calidad del Agua conforme a la normativa NSF/ANSI 42 para la reducción del cloro estético y la normativa NSF/ANSI 53 para la reducción del cobre, según verifican y justifican los resultados de la prueba, y según la normativa CSA B PRECAUCIÓN: No utilizar con agua microbiológicamente insegura o de calidad desconocida sin realizar una desinfección adecuada tanto antes como después de utilizar el sistema. PREPARACIÓN DEL FILTRO 1) Antes de efectuar las siguientes operaciones, lavarse cuidadosamente las manos. 2) Extraer el filtro del envase de plástico (Fig.A) y agitarlo durante 10 segundos (Fig.B). 3) Sumergir el filtro en agua fría durante 15 minutos (Fig.C) y agitarlo de nuevo para eliminar las burbujas de aire. 4) Introducir el filtro en el hueco del depósito. Presionar el filtro firmemente (Fig.D). 5) Llenar el depósito con agua fría del grifo hasta el nivel máximo indicado y dejar filtrar sin cerrar la tapadera. 6) Desechar el agua (o utilizarla para regar las plantas) (Fig.E). Los primeros litros de agua filtrados pueden tener un color oscuro debido a las partículas de carbono disueltas en el agua, las cuales no suponen ningún peligro para la salud humana. 7) Repetir esta operación (punto 5 y 6) 3 veces. 8) Extraer el filtro y colocarlo sobre una superficie limpia (p. ej. un plato). Lavar todos los componentes. Para limpiar la tapadera de la jarra de agua consulte el párrafo cuidado del sistema, 1)instrucciones de limpieza de la tapa de la jarra. Inserte el depósito en la unidad principal y, a continuación, el filtro en el depósito. ACTIVACIÓN DEL INDICADOR DE SUSTITUCIÓN DEL FILTRO 1 Filtro de agua con indicador electrónico de litros amovible Levantar la tapa. Mantener pulsado el botón O/I durante unos segundos hasta que en la pantalla permanezcan fijos el número 0 y un círculo compuesto por 4 secciones (Fig.1a). Las cifras indican la cantidad de litros filtrados (hasta un máximo de 1 litros); el círculo compuesto por 4 secciones indica el tiempo restante disponible para la filtración (Fig.1a). Bajar la tapa y filtrar 1 litro. La pantalla electrónica muestra el número 1, está activada. La pantalla electrónica muestra el número de litros ya filtrados y el tiempo restante de vida útil del cartucho (Fig.1b - Fig.1c - Fig.1d). Una vez filtrados 1 litros y/o después de 60 días desde el momento de su activación, el indicador numérico volverá automáticamente a 0 y comenzará a parpadear: el cartucho de filtro debe ser reemplazado (Fig.1e). Importante: si se mantiene pulsado el botón O/I durante unos segundos, la pantalla restablece automáticamente el recuento efectuado hasta ese momento y se reactiva la capacidad total de filtrado. La vida útil del cartucho de filtro electrónico sustituible es de 2 años aproximadamente. Al cabo de 2 años, la pantalla del contador electrónico no mostrará ningún símbolo. Pedir al distribuidor un indicador electrónico de repuesto. 2 Filtro de agua con indicador electrónico rectangular amovible. Levantar la tapadera. Mantener presionado el botón O/I durante algunos segundos hasta que las 4 barras negras dejen de parpadear (Fig. 2a). Colocar la tapadera y filtrar 1 litro: las barras negras parpadearán 3 veces consecutivas para indicar que el contador electrónico ya está activado (4 barras equivalen a 8 semanas). El indicador de sustitución del filtro muestra que la capacidad total de filtraje es ahora del (Fig.2b). El indicador de sustitución muestra que la capacidad total de filtraje es ahora del (Fig.2c). Cuando deba cambiarse el filtro, la pantalla mostrará una t (Fig.2d). Importante: La vida útil del indicador electrónico sustituible es de 2 años aproximadamente. Al cabo de 2 años, la pantalla del contador electrónico no mostrará ningún símbolo. Pedir al distribuidor un indicador electrónico de repuesto. Sustitución del indicador electrónico de sustitución del cartucho de filtro: para sustituirlo, extraer el indicador electrónico, ayudándose para ello de una herramienta, levantando la pestaña colocada en la parte superior del mismo y extraerlo de su hueco. 3 Filtro de agua con indicador electrónico trapezoidal de sustitución del filtro extraíble Retirar la tapa de la jarra y comprobar la presencia del imán debajo de la tapa misma (ver Fig. H). Extraer el indicador electrónico volcando la tapa sobre la mano realizando un toque enérgico (ver Fig. I). Mantener presionado el botón O/I durante algunos segundos hasta que las 4 barras negras dejen de parpadear (Fig 3a). Colocar el indicador en la tapadera: las barras negras parpadearán 3 veces consecutivas para indicar que el indicador electrónico ya está activado (4 barras equivalen a 8 semanas). El indicador de sustitución del filtro muestra que la capacidad total de filtraje es ahora del (Fig.3b). El indicador de sustitución del filtro muestra que la capacidad total de filtraje es ahora del (Fig.3c). Cuando deba cambiarse el filtro, la pantalla mostrará una t (Fig.3d). Importante: La vida útil del indicador electrónico es de 2 años aproximadamente. Al cabo de 2 años, la pantalla del indicador electrónico no mostrará ningún símbolo. Pedir al distribuidor un indicador electrónico de repuesto. CUIDADO: al final de la vida útil del filtro en los contadores electrónicos, la pantalla parpadea hasta apagarse (sleeping mode) para evitar el consumo de la batería. Al sustituir el cartucho, hay que reactivar la pantalla como se indica en el párrafo ACTIVACIÓN DEL INDICADOR DE SUSTITUCION DEL FILTRO. LLENADO DEL FILTRO DE AGUA Filtro de agua con dispositivo de llenado automático Colocar la jarra bajo el grifo de manera que el chorro de agua entre directamente en el depósito a través de la apertura dispuesta en la tapadera. Abrir el grifo (la presión del chorro de agua no debe ser fuerte para evitar salpicaduras): el agua abre el dispositivo de llenado automáticamente. Llenar el depósito con agua fría del grifo hasta el nivel máximo indicado (Fig.F1). Cuando el depósito esté casi lleno, el dispositivo de llenado automático se cerrará poco a poco: cerrar el grifo cuando el dispositivo se cierre (Fig.F2). Se aconseja comprobar el nivel de agua en el depósito a través del lateral de la jarra. Filtro de agua sin dispositivo de llenado automático Llenar el depósito con un primer litro de agua hasta el máximo indicado (Fig.F3) y cerrar la tapadera. Esperar a que termine el proceso de filtración para poder utilizar el agua filtrada o bien volver a llenar el depósito Su jarra está ahora lista para su uso. Para garantizar un rendimiento óptimo, se recomienda no filtrar más de 5 litros por día (con un intervalo de minutos entre una filtración y otra). El filtro de agua debe reemplazarse cada 1 litros/60 días de filtración (la máxima eficacia del producto y la seguridad quedan garantizadas si se obedecen estas instrucciones. SUSTITUCION DEL FILTRO Para sustituir el filtro, extraerlo del depósito (Fig. G). Consulte la sección anterior PREPARACIÓN DEL FILTRO. CUIDADO DEL SISTEMA 1) Instrucciones de lavado para la tapa de la jarra: Tapa con indicador de sustitución del cartucho electrónico rectangular extraíble: Retirar la tapa de la jarra. Extraer el indicador electrónico levantando la palanca situada en la parte superior. Proceder al lavado de la tapa con agua tibia y lavavajillas. Secar la tapa y volver a colocar el indicador electrónico en su lugar correspondiente. Tapa con indicador de sustitución del cartucho electrónico trapezoidal extraíble: Retirar la tapa de la jarra y comprobar la presencia del imán debajo de la tapa misma (ver Fig. H). Extraer el indicador electrónico volcando la tapa sobre su mano realizando un toque enérgico (ver Fig. I). Proceder al lavado de la tapa con agua tibia y lavavajillas. Secar la tapa y volver a colocar el indicador electrónico en su lugar correspondiente. Tapa con indicador de sustitución del cartucho electrónico trapezoidal no extraíble: Retirar la tapa de la jarra. Lavar la tapa a mano con agua y jabón y enjuagar con agua del grifo. Secar la tapa. 5 6

7 ES Filtro de agua Instrucciones y garantía ES 2) Lavar los componentes del sistema al menos 2-3 veces por semana (excluyendo el filtro) con agua tibia jabonosa. No utilizar limpiadores abrasivos. 3) Nunca lave el filtro con jabón o detergentes. 4) Si no se utiliza la jarra durante 48 horas, se recomienda vaciar el agua, extraer el cartucho, lavar cuidadosamente todos los componentes, volver a introducir el cartucho en el depósito de la jarra y guardarla en el refrigerador. Antes de utilizar de nuevo la jarra, consulte el punto 9 del párrafo PREPARACIÓN DEL FILTRO. 5) Guardar la jarra filtrante en el refrigerador. El refrigerador se debe mantener en buenas condiciones higiénicas. 6) Mantenga la jarra filtrante de LAICA alejada de la luz directa del sol y de fuentes de calor. 7) Utilizar sólo agua fría (+4 C : +30 C). 8) Filtrar sólo agua. No filtrar ningún otro tipo de líquido. 9) Se recomienda consumir el agua filtrada en las 48 horas siguientes a su filtración. 10) Utilice sólo filtros Laica para su protección. En ese caso, póngase en contacto con el proveedor de agua para obtener más información. 4) El cartucho filtrante Laica garantiza la eficaz protección bacteriostática gracias a la presencia de plata. Una posible emisión de plata se recoge en las directrices indicadas por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) y los parámetros de la Directiva Europea 98/83/CE relativa a la calidad de las aguas destinadas al consumo humano. 5) El sistema de filtración Laica preserva el equilibrio natural de sales minerales, de calcio y de magnesio presentes en el agua del grifo. La dureza total media (la suma de los elementos calcio y magnesio) del agua filtrada, durante todo el ciclo de vida del cartucho de filtro, no sufre variaciones sustanciales en lo que concierne a la dureza del agua antes de la filtración. 6) El sistema de filtración Laica mantiene el ph dentro del nivel indicado por la Directiva Europea 98/83/CE relativa a la calidad de las aguas destinadas al consumo humano. 7) El sistema de filtración podría incrementar ligeramente el contenido de sodio respeto al agua original. En cualquier caso, la variación es mínima y significativamente menor que el valor máximo del parámetro. 8) El sistema de filtración puede variar ligeramente la dureza del agua antes del tratamiento. 9) Laica le invita a realizar una evaluación preliminar del agua de la red local para utilizar de forma consciente el sistema de filtración. 10) El sistema de filtración Laica no libera potasio. 11) El sistema de filtración Laica no libera amonio. 12) El sistema de filtración Laica no libera bisfenol A. 13) El sistema de filtración Laica no libera epiclorhidrina, cloruro de polivinilo, acrilamida. PROBLEMAS El flujo del agua se reduce hasta detenerse CAUSAS Y SOLUCIONES 1) El cartucho filtrante no ha sido activado correctamente. Repetir las operaciones indicadas en el párrafo PREPARACIÓN DEL CARTUCHO FILTRANTE. 2) En el interior del cartucho filtrante podrían formarse burbujas de aire que impiden el flujo regular del agua. Extraer el filtro, sumergirlo en agua para hacer salir las burbujas, escurrirlo y volver a introducirlo en el depósito. PROCEDIMIENTO DE ELIMINACIÓN (DIR. 2002/96/CE - RAEE) INDICADOR ELECTRÓNICO DE SUSTITUCIÓN DEL FILTRO DE LAICA Los indicadores electrónicos de sustitución del filtro de Laica tienen una vida útil de aproximadamente dos años. Al final de su vida útil, recuerde que estos dispositivos contienen baterías y deben eliminarse de acuerdo con las respectivas leyes y regulaciones aplicables. Para extraer el indicador de sustitución del filtro de Laica agotado, consulte las instrucciones descritas en la sección Activación del indicador de sustitución del filtro de su modelo concreto. JARRA DE AGUA Y FILTRO Los componentes de la jarra de agua y el filtro deben eliminarse de acuerdo con las regulaciones de la respectiva localidad. GARANTÍA LIMITADA Esta garantía limitada cubre la compra de una nueva JARRA/DISPENSADOR DE AGUA FILTRADA DE LAICA para su uso personal o privado. LAICA garantiza que este producto estará libre de defectos materiales y de calidad (exceptuando un desgaste o deterioro normales) durante NOVENTA (90) DÍAS a contar desde la fecha de su adquisición y utilizándola estrictamente de acuerdo con lo expuesto en las instrucciones. Si durante el periodo de 90 días detecta que alguna parte de la jarra/del dispensador está dañada o rota, ya sea debido a un defecto de fábrica o de transporte, sustituiremos la(s) parte(s) dañada(s) sin costes adicionales.
