Remember that this Mass is a little bit longer because of the procession and the reading of the Passion of the Lord. This Solemn celebration begins Holy Week! STATIONS OF THE CROSS DURING LENT Every Friday of Lent after the 5:15 PM Mass in English Our Lady of Mercy Bronx, New York HOLY WEEK Holy Week begins next week, March 27/28, with the Messianic entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem to suffer crucifixion and death (Palm Sunday). This is the most solemn week of the whole Liturgical Year. EASTER TRIDUUM Begins with the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. This is the shortest but most important Liturgical Season in the Church. HOLY THURSDAY THE LORD S SUPPER On Holy Thursday, April 1st, we commemorate Jesus institution of the Sacraments of the Eucharist and of the Priesthood. Our celebration of the Lord s Supper will be at 8:00 PM and it will be bi-lingual. GOOD FRIDAY THE LORD S PASSION AND DEATH On Good Friday, April 2nd, we commemorate the Lord s Passion and Death. The Seven Last Words of Jesus will be preached at 3:00 PM, the Lord s Passion and Veneration of the Cross at 4:00 PM in English. The Stations of the Cross will be re-enacted on the streets beginning in the Church at 5:30 PM. The Stations will be recited in English and Spanish. HOLY SATURDAY EASTER VIGIL On Saturday evening of Holy Week, April 11 th, we celebrate the Easter Vigil. It is the most important celebration of the entire year in which we commemorate the rising of Jesus from the tomb and his victory over sin and death. From ancient times the Easter Vigil has been called the mother of all vigils. Our Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 8:00 PM and it will be bi-lingual. STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND CELEBRA- TION OF MASS IN OUR BUILDINGS From Monday, March 22 to Thursday, March 25, the Stations of the Cross will be prayed at 6:30 pm, followed by Mass at 7:30 pm in some of our parishioners buildings. The stations will be prayed throughout people s apartments and then the Holy Mass at the lobby. If we are visiting your building and would like your apartment to be blessed, just let the priest know. The buildings will be announced and posted! Thank you! VISITING THE SICK & HOMEBOUND If you know of any homebound person in the parish who would like the visit of a priest for Confession or Anointing, please leave name, address and phone number and a priest will visit as soon as possible.

March 21, 2010 Fifth Sunday of Lent SOMETHING NEW See, I am doing something new! (Isaiah 43:19). All during this Lenten season, the scriptures have revealed the truth of these words, proclaimed in today s first reading from the prophet Isaiah. We have heard about a bush in the desert aflame but not consumed. We have listened to a parable about a father, the depth of whose love for his prodigal son was almost inconceivable. Today, instead of condemning a woman caught in the act of adultery and joining in stoning her to death, the Lord Jesus sends her on her way, away from what would have been certain death, admonishing her to sin no more. Indeed, God has been doing something new in our midst. Even when we are trapped in sin, with no perceivable way out, we are offered forgiveness when we turn to the Lord with repentant hearts. 4 Our Lady of Mercy Bronx, New York 21 de marzo de 2010 Quinto Domingo de Cuaresma ALGO NUEVO Yo voy a realizar algo nuevo. Durante todo este tiempo de Cuaresma, las lecturas bíblicas han revelado la verdad de estas palabras, proclamadas en la primera lectura de hoy por el profeta Isaías. Oímos sobre la zarza ardiente en el desierto que no se consumía. Oímos una parábola sobre un padre cuyo profundo amor por su hijo pródigo es casi inconcebible. Hoy, en lugar de condenar a una mujer sorprendida en adulterio y unirse a los que querían apedrearla, el Señor Jesús la despide, alejándola de lo que habría sido una muerte certera, advirtiéndole que no pecara más. Es muy cierto, Dios ha hecho algo nuevo entre nosotros. Aún cuando estamos atrapados en el pecado, sin poder percibir una salida, el Señor nos ofrece el perdón cuando nos volvemos a él con el corazón arrepentido. TRIDUO PASCUAL El Triduo Pascual inicia el Jueves Santo con la Cena del Señor, llega a su punto culminante en la Vigilia Pascual, y termina con las Vísperas del Domingo de Resurrección. Este es el Tiempo Litúrgico más corto pero más importante de todo el año. JUEVES SANTO ULTIMA CENA El Jueves Santo, 1 de Abril, conmemoramos la Institución de los Sacramentos de la Eucaristía y del Sacerdocio a las 8:00 PM y será bi-lingue. VIERNES SANTO PASION Y MUERTE El Viernes Santo es el 10 de Abril y es la conmemoración de la Pasión y Muerte del Señor. Las Siete Palabras de Jesús en Inglés a las 3:00 PM y la Pasión y Veneración de la Cruz a las 4:00 PM en Inglés y en Español a las 7:00 PM después del Vía Crucis por la Calle. El Vía Crucis viviente comenzarán a las 5:00 PM en la Iglesia de abajo. SABADO SANTO VIGILIA PASCUAL El Sábado en la noche de la Semana Santa, 3 de Abril, celebramos la Vigilia Pascual. Esta es la celebración más importante de todo el año en la cual conmemoramos la resurrección de Jesús de la tumba y su victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte. Desde muy antiguo la Vigilia Pascual ha sido llamada la madre de todas las vigilias. Nuestra Vigilia Pascual será celebrada a las 8:00 PM y será bi-lingue. CASARSE EN LA IGLESIA?
