2 As we move into this Holy Week. As we begin the celebration of this Holy Week, we are reminded of the promise we have received as we journey through the week of death and new life through our upcoming celebrations. Please take time to join us this week in this important moments of prayer reminding us of the presence and the gift of life we receive in the depth of God s eternal love. This most Holy Week is an invitation to a deeper awareness of the mercy we receive freely from God through His presence with us through Christ. May this presence fill us with hope and remind us of the challenge we have to live as followers of this mercy and love with one another. May these moments of prayer and presence empower us and draw us closer into the gift of love which is given to us all. God s eternal love which overcomes all death and calls us to move through these events touched by grace, empowered by the Spirit and humbled by the life we share with one another in Christ. Upcoming events for IHM Religious Education Program First Communion Candidate & Parent Retreat: On Tuesday, March 22nd, all of our students who will make First Communion this May, along with their parents, need to attend a required retreat. We will meet in the school gym at 7:00 p.m. We hope to be finished by 8:30 p.m. All of our Confirmation Candidates will perform the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, March 25th. The English performance will be at 3:00 p.m., and the Spanish will be at 7:30 p.m. Each station is narrated and acted; there will be reflections, music, and prayers. Please plan to join us. We will have the retreat for all of our Confirmation Candidates, Sponsors and their Parents on Tuesday, March 29th, at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. 6 HOLY THURSDAY The evening Mass of the Lord's Supper should be held at the appropriate time in the afternoon. The washing of the feet or mandatum is the norm to be observed by all parishes. The parish pastoral staff should make every effort to carry out this mandatum with reverence and dignity. Also, avoid other rites or statements of commitment, which are inappropriate in the liturgy of Holy Thursday. Please note the official change in the washing of the feet The Pope has chosen not only men for the washing of the feet in the Liturgy of Holy Thursday (Thursday January 21) Vatican City, January 21, 2016 (Vis).- The Holy Father, dated December 20, 2014 and published today, wrote a letter to Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and Doctrine sacraments, which provides that from now on, people chosen for their feet washed in the Holy Thursday liturgy belong to the whole People of God and are not just men or boys. ''In fulfilling this rite, bishops and priests are invited to settle deeply in Christ'' he came not to be served but to serve "(Matt, 20, 28) and driven by a love to the end '(John13.1), to give his life for the salvation of all mankind. The collection of this day is dedicated to all pastoral, charitable, educational and social works that the Church supports work in the Holy Land for the benefit of PASCHAL TRIDUUM 2016 ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Christians and local communities, as well as for the maintenance of the holy places. This collection can be done through baskets placed at the entrances of the temple, as in the liturgy there is no designated time for the collection. The proceeds should be sent to the Finance Office of the Archdiocese. Readings should not be cut or shortened, all should fully be proclaimed. The story of the Passion in St. Johns narrative, should not be replaced by other narrative of the Passion, nor should it become a dramatization distorting his message. Although other services parishes planned during the day of Good Friday should be very clear in announcing the schedule, the liturgy of the Lord's Passion is the one that takes precedence over all other services because it is part of the Paschal Triduum. HOLY SATURDAY Upcoming Parish Meetings & Events for March Holy Communion can be given on this day only as Viaticum. It is preferable that visits to the sick to bring Communion made during the first days of the week and Easter. It is expected that the fast has begun from Friday to continue until the Easter Vigil. EASTER VIGIL "The celebration of the Easter Vigil should be done in the dark of night at sunset. It should not be started while it is still day and must end before dawn on Sunday " - (Roman Missal). On March 26, 2016, sunset will occur at 7:10 pm., CDT. Therefore, the Easter Vigil should not start before 7:45 pm. According at Roman Missal, the readings of the Word of God are "The fundamental element of the Easter Vigil" Although it is possible to reduce the number of readings of the Old Testament, it is not advisable to do this. The tabernacle must be empty before starting the Vigil. All the bread used for Communion should be enshrined in this liturgy. It is strongly recommended to observe the rule of giving communion under both species to all the faithful. 7 EL TRIDUO PASCUAL 2016 ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO JUEVES SANTO La Misa vespertina de la Cena del Señor debe celebrarse a la hora más apropiada de la tarde. El lavatorio de los pies o mandatum es la norma que deben observar todas las parroquias. El personal pastoral parroquial debe hacer todo lo posible en llevar a cabo este mandatum con reverencia y dignidad. Asimismo, se deben evitar otros ritos o declaraciones de compromiso, los cuales son inapropiados en la liturgia del Jueves Santo. Tengan en cuenta el cambio oficial en el lavatorio de los pies El Papa dispone que no sean solo hombres los elegidos para el lavatorio de los pies en la Liturgia del Jueves Santo ( Jueves 21 de Enero) Ciudad del Vaticano, 21 de enero 2016 (Vis).-El Santo Padre -con fecha 20 de diciembre de y publicada hoy- escribió una carta al cardenal Robert Sarah, Prefecto de la Congregación para el Culto Divino y la Doctrina de los Sacramentos, en la que dispone que a partir de ahora, las personas elegidas para que sus pies sean lavados en la liturgia del Jueves Santo pertenezcan a todo el Pueblo de Dios y no sean solamente hombres o muchachos. ''Al cumplir ese rito, los obispos y sacerdotes están invitados a conformarse profundamente a Cristo que ''no vino para ser servido, sino para servir'' (Mat, 20, 28) y empujado por un amor ''hasta el final'' (Jn 13,1), a dar su vida por la salvación de todo el género humano. Para manifestar este significado pleno del rito a cuantos participan en él, el Sumo Pontífice Francisco ha considerado oportuno cambiar la norma que se lee en las rúbricas del Missale Romanun (p. 300 n.11) ''Los hombres elegidos son acompañados por los ministros''.. que debe variar como sigue: ''Los elegidos entre el Pueblo de Dios son acompañados por los ministros''..(y, en consecuencia, en el Caeremoniale Episcoporum n.301 y n.229 b ''las sillas para los designados'') de modo que los pastores puedan elegir a un grupo de fieles que represente la variedad y la unidad de cada porción del pueblo de Dios. La colecta de éste día es dedicada a todas las obras pastorales, caritativas, educacionales y trabajo social que la Iglesia apoya en la Tierra Santa para beneficio de los cristianos y comunidades locales, así como para el mantenimiento de los lugares sagrados. Esta colecta puede hacerse por medio de canastos colocados en las entradas del templo, ya que en la liturgia no hay un momento designado para la colecta. Lo recaudado debe ser enviado a la Oficina de Finanzas de la Arquidiócesis. Las lecturas no deben recortarse o abreviarse, todas deben de proclamarse completamente. La narración de la Pasión según San Juan no debe ser reemplazada por otros narrativos de la Pasión, y tampoco debe tornarse en una dramatización que distorsione su mensaje. Aunque las parroquias planifiquen otros servicios durante el día del Viernes Santo, debe quedar bien claro al anunciar los horarios, que la liturgia de la Pasión del Señor es la que tiene prioridad sobre todos los otros servicios ya que es parte del Triduo Pascual. SABADO SANTO La Sagrada Comunión puede darse en este día solamente como Viático. Es preferible que las visitas a los enfermos para llevarles la Comunión se realicen durante los primeros días de la semana y en la Pascua. Se espera que el ayuno que ha comenzado desde el Viernes Santo continúe hasta la Vigilia Pascual. VIGILIA PASCUAL La celebración de la Vigilia Pascual debe realizarse en la oscuridad de la noche, durante la caída del sol. No debe comenzarse cuando todavía es de día y debe terminar antes de la alborada del Domingo -(Misal Romano). En Marzo 26 del 2016, la puesta del sol ocurrirá a las 7:10 pm., CDT. Por lo tanto, la Vigilia Pascual no deberá iniciarse antes de las 7:45 Pm. De acuerdo at Misal Romano, las lecturas de la Palabra de Dios son El elemento fundamental de la Vigilia Pascual Aunque es permitido reducir el número de lecturas del Antiguo Testamento, no es recomendable hacer esto. El tabernáculo debe estar vacío antes de iniciar la Vigilia. Todo el pan que se usa para la Comunión debe ser consagrado en esta liturgia. Se recomienda enfáticamente observar la norma de dar la comunión bajo las dos especies a todos los fieles. Litúrgicamente, el Triduo llega a su conclusión con las Vísperas el Domingo por la tarde.
