8 1 Choose a shelf location. For our example we will choose to the right of this doorway. Place a pencil mark at the height that is right for your storage needs. Place pencil mark at shelf height 8

9 2 Use stud finder to locate stud center for installation of first bracket. From desired shelf height (pencil mark), measure up 1 ½ inches and place a second pencil mark to indicate drill location (This corresponds to top hole of the bracket). 1 ½ Drill location Shelf Height 1 ½ Note: Dashed line represents our stud For further instructions finding the center of a stud refer to Appendix I. 9

10 Hardware Required: 3 Drill a pilot hole using ¼ inch drill bit. Align the top hole of the shelf bracket with the pilot hole in the wall. Use a Lag Screw to secure shelf bracket to wall. The lag screw should be snug, but the shelf bracket should remain loose enough to pivot. Align pilot hole insert Leave until next step Ensure the pilot hole is drilled in the center of the truss. Yes! No! 10

11 Hardware Required: 4 Hold the level against the side of the shelf bracket. Ensure that the bracket is vertically level. Drill bottom pilot hole and use lag screw to secure shelf. Just like with the top, the lag screw should be snug, but not tight. Level, drill pilot, insert lag Note: In order to guarantee a level shelf, the top and bottom lag screws must be tightened evenly. 11

12 5 Place level on top of shelf bracket. Alternate tightening top and bottom lag screws until shelf bracket is fully secured and level. Note: Be aware that certain building materials have some give. For example, drywall will give much more than concrete walls. Over tightening may cause cracking of the material. 12

13 6 Find the location of your second shelf bracket: Measure 36 inches out from the previously installed bracket and make a mark (X) with your pencil. From that X work backward to locate the closest stud inside the shelf area. This will provide sufficient support for your shelf grid. 36 Represents Shelf Area X Note: Generally studs are located 16 center of stud to center of stud. All construction varies, but for this example we will use our first stud and our second will be 32 away, keeping us inside the required

14 7 To find the location to drill, measure from the ceiling to the center of the top lag screw on the previously installed bracket. This measurement will ensure the same height of each bracket. Carry that measurement to the appropriate stud inside your shelf area and drill the pilot hole in the center. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 to install second shelf bracket. 14

15 8 Once both brackets have been installed, take your grid and lift the front edge while sliding the back into place. The back of the grid will go under the lip, preventing it from sliding forward. Lay the front edge down. Note: Please view Appendix III for more information. Grid (shelf) Wall Bracket Note: the front of the grid must be tilted up to properly seat into the bracket. This is the locking slot where the back of the grid is secured. 15

16 Hardware Required: 9 Use the U-Bolts and nuts to secure the grid to the shelf bracket. Repeat this process for any additional shelves. 16

18 Appendix I How to locate the center of a stud: The best and most accurate method for finding the exact center of a stud is probing. To probe, take a small drill bit, or a thin punch and puncture the drywall. This method will allow you to feel the stud. While puncturing the drywall you will tap to ensure you are hitting a stud. You will probe right or left about 1/8 at a time until you push through locating the edge. You can either find the edge and measure to the center or you can probe to find both edges to find the center. Stud finders will help, but can give false readings. By probing you will be able to tap and ensure what you are hitting is wood rather than wiring, piping or other possible hazards. 18

19 Appendix II Configurations of Shelving: Shelves can be hung in rows or columns. Grids can also be flipped providing a safety lip! 19

20 Appendix III Grid Installation 1.) When installing grids there must be adequate clearance for the grids to be inserted into the brackets. For the grids to be properly seated in the bracket, a minimum of 14 inches of clearance above the bracket is required. 2.) If there is not enough clearance above the shelf there must be enough space to slide the grid in (from left or right) through the brackets. 3.) If there is inadequate clearance both from the bracket to an obstruction above and side to side, you will need to: remove the brackets, attach them to the grid, hold the assembled unit, align the brackets with the drilled holes and secure each bracket. 14 Attach brackets to grid 3.) 30 2 Utilice un detector de vigas para localizar el centro de la viga e instalar el primer soporte. 31 Accesorios necesarios: 3 Perfore un orificio de prueba usando una broca de ¼ de pulgada. Alinee el orificio superior del soporte del estante con el orificio de prueba en la pared. Use un tirafondos para ajustar el soporte del estante en la pared. El tirafondos debe estar bien afirmado, pero el soporte del estante debe permanecer lo suficientemente flojo como para girar. Alinee la inserción del orificio de prueba Déjelo hasta el próximo paso Cerciórese de que el orificio de prueba esté al centro del entramado. Sí! No! 10

32 Accesorios necesarios: 4 Mantenga el nivel al costado del soporte del estante. Cerciórese de que el estante esté nivelado verticalmente. Perfore el orificio de prueba inferior y utilice un tirafondos para sujetar el estante. Al igual que con la parte superior, el tirafondos debe estar firme pero no apretado. Nivelar, perforar prueba, introducir tirafondos Nota: Para garantizar un estante nivelado, los tirafondos superior e inferior deben ajustarse uniformemente. 11

33 5 Coloque el nivel en la parte superior del soporte del estante. Alterne el ajuste entre los tirafondos superior e inferior, hasta que el soporte del estante esté completamente firme y nivelado. Nota: Observe que algunos materiales de construcción son algo flexibles. Por ejemplo, una pared de yeso será mucho más flexible que una de concreto. El apretar demasiado puede resquebrajar el material. 12

34 6 Encuentre una ubicación para el segundo soporte del estante: mida 36 pulgadas (91 cm) desde el estante instalado previamente y haga una marca (X) con lápiz. Desde esa X, trabaje hacia atrás y localice la viga más próxima al área del estante. Esto proporcionará soporte suficiente a la malla de su estante. 36 Representa el área del estante X Nota: En general, las vigas se encuentran a 16 pulgadas (40 cm) en el centro de la viga hasta el centro de la misma. Las construcciones varían, pero en este ejemplo usaremos 32 (80 cm) de distancia entre las vigas, para que podamos estar dentro de las 36 (90 cm) necesarias. 13

35 7 Para ubicar el punto adecuado para realizar la perforación, mida desde el techo hasta el centro del tirafondos superior sobre el soporte previamente instalado. Esta medición garantizará que instale los soportes a la misma altura. Lleve esta medición hasta la viga adecuada dentro del área de su estante, y perfore el orificio de prueba en el centro. Repita los pasos 2 a 5 para instalar el segundo soporte del estante. 14

36 8 Luego que los dos soportes estén instalados, eleve el borde frontal de la rejilla y deslice la parte posterior a su lugar. El borde posterior de la rejilla irá debajo del reborde para impedir que se deslice hacia adelante. Fije el borde frontal. Rejilla (estante) Soporte de pared Nota: la parte frontal de la rejilla debe inclinarse hacia arriba para asentarla correctamente en el soporte. Esta es la ranura de "bloqueo", donde se fijará la parte posterior de la rejilla. 15

39 Anexo I Cómo localizar el centro de la viga: El mejor y más acertado método para encontrar el centro exacto de una viga es probar. Para hacerlo, tome una broca pequeña o un punzón delgado y perfore la pared de yeso. Este método le permitirá sentir la viga. Mientras esté perforando la pared de yeso, dé unos golpecitos para verificar que esté golpeando una viga. Pruebe cerca de 1/8 por vez, hacia la derecha o hacia la izquierda, hasta que logre localizar el borde. Usted puede localizar el borde y medir hasta el centro o tratar de encontrar ambos bordes hasta encontrar el centro. Los detectores de vigas pueden ayudar, aunque también podrían dar falsas lecturas. Haciendo pruebas podrá dar golpecidos y cerciorarse de que es madera lo que está golpeando y no cables, tuberías u otros posibles peligros. 18

40 Anexo II Configuraciones de los estantes: Los estantes pueden colgarse en filas o columnas. Las rejillas también pueden girarse y proporcionar un reborde de seguridad! 19

41 Anexo III Grid Installation 1.) Al instalar las rejillas, verifique que haya suficiente holgura para que estas puedan insertarse en los soportes. Para que las rejillas puedan asentarse correctamente en el soporte, es necesario que exista como mínimo una holgura de 35 centímetros por encima del soporte. 2.) De no existir suficiente holgura por encima del estante, debe haber por lo menos suficiente espacio para deslizar la rejilla (desde la derecha o la izquierda) por los soportes. 3.) Si no hay holgura suficiente tanto desde el soporte hasta una obstrucción por encima como de un lado a otro, usted deberá: quitar los soportes, sujetarlos a la rejilla, mantener ensamblada la unidad, alinear los soportes a los orificios y sujetar los soportes. 14 Sujete los soportes a la rejilla 1.) 2.) 3.)
