3 Week of April 20, 2014 Page Three Hoy celebramos el evento más importante de nuestra vivencia como cristianos, la Fiesta de Pascua. Creo que es oportuno aclarar el significado de esta palabra para poder entender su importancia. La palabra "Pascua" viene del idioma hebreo y del griego, y que significa "paso". Para los judíos la fiesta de Pascua tiene un significado distinto al que tiene para nosotros los cristianos. Para ellos la fiesta de la Pascua conmemora el paso del pueblo de Israel a través del mar rojo y que significo la libertad de este pueblo después de años de esclavitud en Egipto. Es por eso que como buen judío vemos a Jesucristo celebrando esta fiesta junto con sus discípulos el día en que fue aprehendido por los soldados romanos. Esta cena pascual fue el antecedente perfecto para lo que Jesús intentaba hacer: transformar la antigua alianza de Moisés en una alianza nueva. Para nosotros los cristianos la Pascua es la fiesta en la que celebramos el "paso" de Jesús de la muerte a la vida. La Pascua para nosotros es la celebración de la Resurrección de Jesús. Creemos que Jesucristo murió por nosotros y luego venció a la muerte para que nosotros tengamos vida eterna. La pascua para nosotros se convierte entonces en la muestra más grande del amor de Dios hacia nosotros sus hijos. Aprovechemos esta fiesta de Pascua para agradecer a Dios por abrirnos las puertas de la salvación. Recordemos nuestro compromiso como bautizados en Cristo y proclamemos su reino de paz y justicia. Que esta fiesta signifique nuestro paso de la pasividad a ser agentes activos de cambio. Que la resurrección de Cristo despierte en nosotros el deseo de ser luz para aquellos que viven en tinieblas y a traer esperanza a aquellos que la han perdido. Que el Señor resucitado traiga alegría a sus corazones y alimente en ustedes el deseo de servir a los demás como Él lo hizo. Today we celebrate the most important event of our life as Christians, Easter. I think it is appropriate to clarify the meaning of this word to understand its importance. The word " Easter " comes from the Hebrew and Greek, and means " Passover. For Jews the Passover feast has a different meaning than it has for us Christians. For them the feast of Passover commemorates the "exodus" of the people of Israel through the Red Sea which meant their freedom after years of slavery in Egypt. That's why we can see Jesus, as a faithful Jew, celebrating this feast with his disciples the day he was arrested by the Roman soldiers. This Passover meal was perfect for what Jesus was trying to do: to transform the old covenant of Moses in a new covenant. For us Christians, Easter is the holiday in which we celebrate the "passing" of Jesus from death to life. Easter for us is the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. We believe that Jesus Christ died for us and then conquered death for us to have eternal life. The Passover is for us the most beautiful expression of God s love for us, his children. Let s seize this Easter holiday to thank God for opening for us the doors of salvation. Let us recall our commitment as baptized Christians and proclaim God s kingdom of peace and justice. May this Feast bring us to pass from passivity to become active agents of change. May The resurrection of Christ awaken in us the desire to be light to those who live in darkness and bring hope to those who have lost it. May the Risen Lord bring joy to their hearts and nourish in us the desire to serve others as He did. HAPPY EASTER! FELICES PASCUAS!

We invite everyone to our annual Padrinos event which will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at La Taberna Tapas on Halsted. This event is for the benefit of our Casa Romero Kids Meal Program that serves the children in this community. This event promises to be a night of fun and joyous hope as everyone learns how easy it is for them to influence the life of a child in the Back of the Yards of Chicago. During the past six weeks, our parish community has prayed, fasted and given alms with a special focus on the poorest members of our global community. Our lives were touched by stories from Kenya, Guatemala, the Philippines, Malawi, Haiti, and the United States. Through our Lenten prayers and donations, we have touched the lives of millions of people served by Catholic Relief Services, our representative to the poorest communities in the world. Don t forget to bring your Rice Bowl contents to the parish office, or to church (and place them in the large Rice Bowl at the front.) Thank you for taking part in the Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl.
