3 Week of December 18, 2011 Mensaje del Párroco Message from the Pastor Dear friends, The star guided the Magi to the Nativity scene it was a guiding star, which provided a light which would guide the wise kings through the darkness. The light did not need to be a strong, overwhelming light, but just enough to guide them. You are like that star, guiding others and you are not alone. There are many stars which each have their place in heaven. Like the stars on the veil of Our Lady of Guadalupe, each star has its place. The gospel reflection given by Marco Lopez and Mayra Lopez at the Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe touched on the symbols of stars. As Marco commented on the symbol of the star, he spoke about the leadership needed in our community. Like the star guides others, so must our leadership shine as a guiding light to our families and youth. Leadership must be creative, however, and imagine how we might live in peace, and how we might recognize the rights of others. Mayra spoke about some of those realities. She mentioned a conversation with a mother who lives near our park and how the mother said she would not let her child venture into the park because she was afraid. This is not a quality of life we want every child should have the freedom to walk without fear. She also stressed the importance and value of education. Both Marco and Mayra encourage us to see ourselves as stars living with imagination and creativity to guide our young people to education and hope, lest we be trapped by inaction and passivity. Humility, they said, invites us to recognize how we must shine and be responsible for an active voice of concern and participation. Interestingly enough, Marco highlighted the Magnificat of Mary, and just when we think God might appear among the rich and powerful in the Cathedral, God appears among the poor, those who live on the outside, just like those who lived at Tepeyac, outside on the edge of the great City of Mexico. This Christmas we must know in the midst of our poverty, and family struggles, that God is very, very present in your home. We celebrate the light of Christ a light that will guide us in the new year! May this Christmas be blessed and filled with joy for all of our families! Sincerely, Queridos amigos y queridas amigas, Page Three La estrella guió a los Reyes Magos allí donde tuvo lugar el nacimiento de Jesús. Era una estrella con una luz capaz de guiar a aquellos sabios reyes en la oscuridad. No se necesitaba que fuera una luz fuerte ni deslumbradora, bastaba que fuese suficiente para guiarles. Uste-des son como aquella estrella, capaz de guiar a otros. Y no están solos. Hay muchas estrellas. Cada una tiene su lugar en el cielo. Como las estrellas del velo de Nuestra Señora de Guada-lupe, cada una tiene su sitio. En la reflexión sobre el Evangelio dieron Marco y Mayra López en la Novena de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe hablaron de las estrellas como símbolos. A partir de la estrella, Marco habló del liderazgo que se necesita en una comunidad. Como una estrella orienta, también nuestro liderazgo debe brillar como una luz capaz de guiar a las familias y a los jóvenes. El liderazgo debe ser creativo e imaginar cómo podemos vivir en paz y cómo podemos reconocer de hecho los derechos de los demás. Mayra concretó su reflexión acercándola a nuestra realidad. Nos contó una conversación que había tenido con una mujer, madre de familia, que vive cerca del parque y cómo decía que no permitía a su hijo que fuese al parque porque tenía miedo a lo que le pudiese pasar. Ese no es el estilo de vida que deseamos. Niños y jóvenes deben tener la libertad para caminar sin miedo por el barrio. También subrayó la importancia y el valor de la educación. Marco y Mayra nos animaron a vernos a nosotros mismos como estrellas: viviendo con imaginación y creatividad para encontrar los caminos que guíen a nuestros jóvenes a educarse y a vivir en esperanza sin dejarnos atrapar por la pasividad y la inacción. La humildad, nos dijeron, nos anima a reconocer que debemos ser luz y asumir la responsabilidad de decir nuestra palabra porque la realidad de los demás nos preocupa y queremos participar. Fue interesante el momento en que Marco explicó el Magnificat de María. Como cuando a veces pensamos que Dios está entre los ricos y los poderosos en la Catedral, Dios aparece entre los pobres, los marginados, como aquellos que vivían en Tepeyac, más allá del límite de la gran ciudad de México. Estas Navidades debemos ser conscientes de que en medio de nuestra pobreza, en medio de los problemas a que se enfrentan nuestras familias, Dios está de verdad presente en nuestros hogares. Celebramos a Cristo como luz, una luz que nos guiará hacia el nuevo año. Que estas Navidades estén llenas de bendiciones y alegría para todas nuestras familias. Sinceramente, P. Bruce Wellems, CMF
