May we know what it is like to long for You in a land that is parched, weary and waterless, longs for water; to thirst for You in an ever-deepening awareness of Your presence within us and within all creation. A Prayer Campaign for Vocations May those You call to service as priests, deacons, brothers, sisters and lay ministers, long to gaze on You in the Sanctuary of their hearts and in the hearts of all they serve. There they will experience your power and glory. Lord, You are the Way, the Truth and the Life! Show us the way to listen, so that we hear Your truth uttered in the silence of our hearts, that we may live the life that You want us to live and live it to the full! For Dialogue: How can we encourage Church vocations for service? O God of the Kingdom and of the World, You call us to encourage one another in our diverse Christian ministries. We praise You for families and communities that encourage vocations to Church life and service. We thank you for the apostolate and ministries that strengthen Catholic families, parishes and movements. We ask You to inspire families and communities to encourage those called to service in the Church: - as diocesan priests, deacons and lay ministers to serve in our parishes; - as religious sisters, brothers and priests for the varied ministries in the Church; - as missionary priests, brothers, sisters, and laity for the task of evangelization. 6 PRAYER CAMPAIGN FOR CHURCH VOCATIONS It is of great importance that the seeds of future vocations for Church ministries be sown and nurtured in Catholic homes and parishes. One way is through a prayer campaign for Church vocations. A Prayer Campaign for Church Vocations is a simple way of keeping before the minds of all Catholic families of the parish the need for vocations, both for the diocesan and universal Church. The principal part of this campaign is a daily prayer centered around a religious image (crucifix, chalice or an image of the Blessed Mother), as the symbol of the vocational prayer campaign. Each week the image is entrusted to a family or individual, who on accepting the image promises to pray during the week for Church vocations : priests, deacons, religious and lay ministers, both for the diocese and the universal Church. This prayer may be said before the principal meal of each day or at a time when the family comes together for prayer or conversation. The family may want to choose one day of the week to invite relatives, friends or neighbors to pray and dialogue together. The following week the vocational religious image and the vocational prayer pamphlet is entrusted to another family or individual during the Sunday Mass before the final blessing. The family or individual that receives the religious image should be seated near the altar and when the priest motions they approach the altar. If it is a parish group, the image and prayer booklet may be given at the end of the meeting. VIERNES: Vocaion de Laicos Voluntarios en la Iglesia Lectura Bíblica: Lucas 10: 1 3 Jesús envía a los setenta y dos en pares para preparer su llagada. Para Dialogar: Cuáles son algunas maneras en que los lacicos pueden servir como voluntarios de la Igelsia en los Estados Unidos? For Dialogue: What are some ways that laity can serve as Church volunteers in the U.S.? O God of the poor, You give us talents and gifts to build a better world of peace, justice and love. We praise you for consciousness and energy to serve others. We thank you for the growing movement of Church lay volunteers serving in our country and the world. We ask You for young people to volunteer their talents, education, professions in Church service: - as teachers and catechists of your Word and Truth; - as social and healthcare workers of your love and care; - As parish and youth ministers in the struggle for human dignity, community and justice. Through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Brother, who calls and inspires young people in service of the needy, in the Holy Spirit of sharing and dedication. Amen. CAMPAÑA DE ORACION PARA VOCACIONES DE ECLESIALES Es muy importante que las semillas de futuras vocaciones para ministerios en la Iglesia sean sembradas y nutridas en las familias y parroquias. Una forma es a través de una campaña de oración. La Campaña de Oración por las Vocaciones es una forma muy sencilla de tener presente en todas las familias católicas de la parroquia la necesidad de vocaciones para la Iglesia diocesana y universal. La parte principal de esta campaña es una oración alrededor de una imagen religiosa (crucifijo o imagen de la Virgen María) como símbolo de la campaña vocacional. Cada semana se entrega la imagen a una familia o individuo, que al aceptar la imagen se compromete durante la semana a rezar por vocaciones: sacerdotes, diáconos, religiosos y ministros laicos, para la Iglesia diocesana y universal. La oración por las vocaciones se puede decir antes de la comida principal de cada día, o en un momento en que la familia acostumbra a orar juntos. La familia podría escoger un día de semana para inviter a parientes y vecinos para rezar y dialogar juntos. La próxima semana se entrega la imagen vocacional y el libro de oraciones a otra familia o individuo durante la misa dominical antes de la bendición final. La familia o individuo que recibe la imagen vocacional debe estar sentada cerca del altar y cuando el sacerdote lo indique se ponen de pie y van hacia el altar. Si es un grupo parroquial se puede entregar la imagen y oraciones al final de la reunión. 17 2

That our community may live its baptismal vocation of being the People of God as disciples of Jesus. For Dialogue: How can we participate in the worldwide mission of the Catholic Church? God of Universal Mission to the world, You call us to share and proclaim our faith in Jesus with other peoples, cultures and nations. We praise you for international solidarity among persons of different races and new communities of Christians. We thank you for world missionaries who witness and share their faith with those of different religions in a spirit of dialogue. We ask You for missionary vocations to the world: - lay men, women and families to build a world of justice and solidarity; - sister and brother missionaries as witnesses to equality and service, - priest and deacon missionaries to proclaim the Gospel and celebrate the sacraments. You are with us each day so that we can manifest your presence in the world. Give us the strength and generosity to respond to your love and your call. We pray especially for those who serve You as diocesan priests and deacons, as religious brothers, sisters and priests, as families, lay ministers and Church volunteers in our diocese and in mission areas of the world. For dialogue: What does it mean for our family to become the People of God, disciples sent by Jesus to continue his mission? O God of Life, You call us to abundant life in Baptism. We praise You for life, with its pains and joys. We thank You for our baptism, which made us members of your Church. We ask You to help us live our baptism as priest, prophet and king: - a priestly people who sanctify Your world; - a prophetic people who teach Your world; and - a royal people who promote Your justice. We praise You for this witness of love and service. We thank you for active and contemplative Communities of women religious in the Church. For dialogue: How can we help our parish priests and deacons in their ministry to us? O God of the Church, You call men to serve in the pastoral leadership of the Church together with the bishop. We praise you for our unity as a priestly people. We thank you for calling some to the service of pastoral leadership in our diocese. We ask you for diocesan priests and deacons: - to preach your Word and teach the Church s doctrine with conviction and understanding; - to celebrate the Eucharist and Sacraments with reverence and compassion; - to administer our parishes and diocese with responsibility and collaboration. Through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Brother, who calls some to be pastoral leaders in the Church, in the Holy Spirit of unity and service.
