3 Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Fremont, CA August 21, 2016 There is a little known example of this in the Old Testament. We all remember the story of King David's battle with the Philistine giant, Goliath. Goliath was twice the size of the strongest Israelite warrior. His challenge to settle the national conflict by one on one combat paralyzed King Saul and the entire army. No one had the courage to face him. Things were looking grim for Israel. At the time, David was just a teenager. He wasn't even old enough to take part in the war. He had come along to help take care of his brother's armor and weapons. But when the rest of the warriors were cowering in fear, he offered to fight Goliath himself. King Saul was so convinced by his determination and faith in God's power that he accepted the offer. The young David then confronted Goliath and killed him wearing no armor and with a sling and a few stones as his only weapon. Certainly God had given him the victory, but not by magic; God's grace had prepared David for that critical moment. When wild animals would attack the sheep, David could not run home for help. He had to fight them alone. Imagine a 12 year old boy facing up to a lion with a slingshot to protect his father's sheep. Imagine the fear, the anguish he had to overcome in those encounters. That's the hardship he had to face again and again. But it was precisely through those experiences that God prepared David for his mission. God is behind every hardship teaching and disciplining our souls, training us to love and serve him better and better. Remember, God never abandons us! As we begin this new school year we want to entrust our little ones to the infinite love and grace of the Heavenly Father. When we place our Trust in Him we have no reason to fear! Fr. 6 Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Fremont, CA 21 de agosto, 2016 Hay un ejemplo muy poco conocido sobre esto en el Antiguo Testamento. Todos recordamos la historia de la batalla del Rey David contra el gigante filisteo, Goliat. Goliat era el doble del tamaño del guerrero israelita más fuerte. El reto para solucionar los conflictos nacionales, uno a uno, paralizó al Rey Saúl y a todo el ejército. Ninguno se atrevía a enfrentarlo. Las cosas se veían muy mal para Israel. En ese tiempo, David era solamente un adolescente. No tenía la suficiente edad para participar en la guerra. El había venido junto con su hermano para ayudarle con su armadura y con sus armas. Pero cuando el resto de los guerreros se acobardaron por el miedo, él se ofreció para luchar contra Goliat. El Rey Saúl estaba convencido por su determinación y su fe en el poder de Dios que aceptó su oferta. El joven David, confrontó y mató a Goliat sin usar ninguna armadura, solo con su honda y con algunas piedras como única arma. Ciertamente Dios le dio la victoria, pero no por un acto de magia; la gracia de Dios preparó a David para este momento crítico. Cuando los animales salvajes atacaban a sus ovejas, David no podía correr a pedir ayuda. Tenía que enfrentarlos él solo. Imagínense a un niño de 12 años enfrentándose a un león usando una honda para proteger las ovejas de su padre. Imagínense el miedo, la angustia que tenía que vencer en esos momentos. Las penalidades que pasó para vencer esos problemas. Las penalidades que tuvo que pasar una y otra vez, fueron precisamente esas penalidades las que prepararon a David para su misión. Dios esta detrás de toda adversidad enseñando y disciplinando nuestras almas, entrenándonos para amarlo y servirlo mejor. Recuerden que Dios nunca nos abandona! Al iniciar este nuevo año escolar, queremos entregar a nuestro pequeños al amor infinito y a la gracia de nuestro Padre Celestial.
