2 Page Two View this bulletin online at 33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 13, 2016 TRIGÉSIMO TERCER DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 13 DE NOVIEMBRE DEL 2016 Dear Parishioners. I am happy to present to you St. Paul s Annual Financial Report for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2015 to June 30, The figures for the previous fiscal year are also included to help you make a year -to-year comparison. SUMMARY OF INCOME - Our overall income decreased by $87 this past year. That may seem insignificant, however, our weekly Sunday collections decreased by $7,452. And this is a major concern since the Sunday collection is our principal means of supporting our parish. We need to do better this current year to increase our Sunday collection. The reason our overall income only decreased by $87 is because the decrease in the Sunday collection was offset by unexpected increases in other income. We cannot assume this will happen all the time. Therefore, we must try to increase our Sunday offertory going forward. Our Sunday collection is our primary means of paying our weekly bills. I know that our parishioners are very generous already. But I would ask that each family consider contributing just a little more each week in the Sunday collection. Perhaps an extra $2 or $5 weekly per family. That would make a significant difference. Also, please remember that St. Paul s depends upon your weekly contribution to pay our bills whether you here or not on Sunday. For example, if you have to miss Sunday mass, we ask that you make up your weekly contribution for the missed Sunday the next time you come to church. I also ask all families in the parish to participate in our parish fundraisers such as the cheesecake sale, food sales, dinner dances, etc. The non-offertory donations are donations that are not part of the Sunday collections that come from various sources such has donations from parish groups, donations from benefactors outside the parish, rent of our school and school hall, advertising from our bulletin, and income from the capital campaign. We receive approximately $15,000 monthly rent from Head Start for the rental of our school building. I cannot stress enough that without this rent St. Paul s would not be able to remain open. Note that Head Start pays 2/3 of the school utilities and insurance and St. Paul s is responsible for the 1/3 that corresponds to our use of the school hall. Our Religious Education (CCD) income remains at $50 for the 1 st child and $10 for each additional child. St. Paul s continues to offer one of the lowest CCD rates in the diocese. For the Diocesan Capital Campaign, we have received payments of $3,734 on the pledges you made over the past two years. While the campaign has not been as successful as I had hoped, we did receive enough to begin the work to repair the church roof. Lastly, please take note of the bulletin advertising income for the ads on the back of the bulletin. Please support our advertisers. Without them we would not have a bulletin. SUMMARY OF EXPENSES - Our expenses increased by $14,672 this past year. This increase in expenses was unexpected and is principally the result of three items. You will notice near the bottom of the report there are three large expenses that we incurred this year. In July 2015, our church air conditioner broke and the cost to repair it was $5,558. In September 2015, we finished the paving of the rectory parking lot at a cost of $6,175. And this past year we had a shortfall in collections for the Diocesan Appeal of $4,849. Those three items come to $16,582. So, if we didn t have those additional expenses we would have had a surplus of $2,589 this year. Naturally we did not anticipate the air conditioning repair and the parking lot needed repaving. However, there s no reason we should have had a shortfall in the Annual Appeal. You will recall that every year the Diocese asks every parish to hold an Annual Appeal. The goal for St. Paul s is $14,000. If we receive less than that amount in pledges, St. Paul s must pay the difference to the Diocese. Last year we had pledges and payments from parishioners of only $9,151. Therefore, the Diocese billed us for $4,849. For this current year, we have pledges of $14,661. We ask that everyone who made a pledge please honor it so that St. Paul s will not billed for another shortfall. Our other expenses did not increase much this past year. We continue to work hard on keeping our expenses to a minimum. Some expenses are obviously beyond our control such as property insurance, the diocesan assessment, salaries, payroll expenses, and utilities to some degree. A major expense for all parishes is salaries and health insurance for the parish employees and clergy and the administrative and liturgical costs associated with running a parish. We have a relatively small staff that consists of a secretary, maintenance person, two priests, a part-time pastoral associate and a part-time bookkeeper. The liturgical costs include such items as altar bread and wine, candles, flowers, and liturgical books. The other major expenses are the utilities and maintenance of our buildings. As I mentioned previously the work on the exterior of the church roof has begun. Because of your generosity in the Capital Campaign, we were able to finally start the work. Many roof tiles have already been replaced and several roof drains have been replaced or repaired. We hope to have the exterior roof work finished by Christmas. Once that is done we will begin the interior work of plastering and repainting. We are seeking volunteers to help with the interior work. If you can donate a few hours or some paint or supplies, please let me know. As always, I am very grateful for the great generosity of our parishioners. We still need our parish families to continue to be as generous as possible, particularly in the Sunday collection and fundraisers.
