3 Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Fremont, CA July 10, 2016 The secret to happiness and fulfillment in life is not far away up in the sky or way across the sea. This is exactly what Moses was speaking about in today s 1 st Reading. We don't have to search out elusive gurus on Tibetan mountaintops, as Bruce Wayne tried to do in Batman Begins. We don't have to hunt for secret documents stashed away by the Freemasons in a secret chamber 500 years ago, as The DaVinci Code would have us believe. We don't have to locate a buried treasure somewhere down in Davy Jones' Locker, as the Pirates of the Caribbean used to think. We have received the gift of knowing the meaning of life. Jesus has given it to us with the simple command: "Love God and neighbor!" But the really exciting part of life or the lasting satisfaction, doesn't come from an endless search. Just as the really satisfying part of Thanksgiving dinner isn't buying the groceries, but sharing the meal. The real drama of life starts after the truth has been found. That can seem intimidating, because, as a famously saying goes: With great power comes great responsibility. The truth is the greatest power there is. Christ offers it to us, in perfect and clear simplicity. But accepting the offer means accepting the responsibility. We enjoy the teaching, but the "go and do likewise" part at the end makes us often uncomfortable. But we need to trust in Jesus. We need to step out of the movie theatre and start living this simple, powerful truth. As St. Vincent Pallotti, the great Italian nobleman who became a priest and tirelessly served the poor, said it like this: "Remember that the Christian life is one of action, not of speech and daydreams. LA GLORIA DE LA MAÑANA La gloria de la mañana que veo desde mi ventana me satisfice más que la metafísica de los libros. Walt Whitman TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Desde 1913, en la ciudad de Puntarenas, Costa Rica, la Virgen del Carmen es reconocida como la Virgen del Mar. En aquel año un barco llamado el Galileo naufraga en una tempestad y el pueblo angustiado por sus seres queridos recurrió al templo de la Virgen para pedir auxilio. Algunos días después todos los tripulantes fueron rescatados y llevados a Puntarenas. Según los tripulantes, mientras las lluvias y vientos amenazaban al Galileo una mujer los animó a que se echasen al agua y nadaran a tierra firme. Allí ella los alimentó y los acompañó hasta que fueron rescatados. Llenos de alegría, el pueblo llevó a los rescatados a la iglesia para dar gracias. Estos reconocieron a la Virgen del Carmen como la mujer que los había ayudado. Desde entonces el sábado más cercano al 16 de julio, el pueblo celebra en grande la fiesta del Carmen con grandes desfiles de barcos y yates. Entre música y fuegos artificiales los costarricenses vienen en embarcaciones adornadas desde toda la nación a celebrar con la Virgen del Mar que también se encuentra en una embarcación. Esto es exactamente lo que Moses esta hablando en la primera lectura de hoy. No tenemos que buscar un evasivo Gurú en las montañas Tíbet, a si como el actor Bruce Wayne trato de hacer en la película Batman Begins. No tenemos que buscar por documentos secretos de la masonería de los 500 años pasados, como El código DaVinci nos hizo creer. No tenemos que encontrar tesoros enterrados en algún lugar abajo del ropero de Davy Jones, como los piratas del Caribe pensaban en los cuentos de la historia. Todos recibimos el don de entendimiento para saber el significado de la vida. Jesús nos ha dado el mandato de Amar a Dios y a tu prójimo! Pero la parte realmente emocionante de la vida o la satisfacción duradera, no proviene de una búsqueda interminable. Así como la parte realmente satisfactoria dela cena de Acción de Gracias no es comprar la comida, sino compartirla. Cuando se encuentra el verdadero drama de la vida comienza hasta después de la verdad. Esto puede ser intimidante, porque como dice un famoso refrán Con el gran poder viene una grande responsabilidad. La verdad es el mayor poder que existe. Cristo nos la ofrece a nosotros, en una simplicidad perfecta y clara, pero aceptar la ofrenda de Cristo significa aceptar la responsabilidad, disfrutando de la enseñanza, pero la parte de Ir y hacer lo mismo al final nos hace a menudo sentir incomodos. Solo tenemos que confiar en Jesús. Tenemos que salir a la realidad y empezar a vivir esta simple y potente verdad. Como San Vincent Palloti, el gran noble italiano que se hizo sacerdote y sirvió incansablemente al pobre, lo dijo así Recuerda que la vida cristiana es una acción, no es un discurso y sueños.
