2 PASTORS CORNER New Kneeler Pads and Upholstery It s good when the low bidder is the local bidder. Fran s Upholstery, of Manteca was the low bidder for the new kneeler upholstery and pads. By the time that you read this letter, the first set of kneelers will be complete. Relief for your sore, aching knees is on the way! The upholstery is strong, stain resistant material. The padding is strong also. It should give us many years of service. However, it will last much longer if people do not put their feet or stand on the kneelers. Parents, please be vigilant with regard to your children and our refurbished kneelers. Thank you! The upholstery on the pew seats and backs will be cleaned when the kneelers are complete, hopefully in mid-september. Faithfully, Fr. Pat Walker P.S. The kneelers are being financed with funds from the Bishop s Ministry Appeal. If you are behind in your pledge, please try to catch up by December. Our next project with BMA funds (over our goal) will be the Adoration Chapel. Holy Day of Obligation August 15 is The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass times will be as follows: 7:00 am, 9:00 am, 6:00 pm in English and 7:30 pm in Spanish. Harvest Festival Join us for this years Harvest Festival on September 20th & 21st! There will be lots of fun, food and games at this family friendly event. Faith Formation Registration for Registration is now open through August 30. New students must have their baptismal certificate even if they were baptized here at St. Anthony s. We will require you to pay half of the fee to hold your child s place in our program. You can check the parish web site for further information. Our registration hours are Monday through Thursday 10:00 am-5:00 pm, and Friday the office will close at 4:00 pm. Journey in Christianity Journey in Christianity, an organization focusing on Christian renewal through Catholic service is sponsoring a weekend retreat on Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday October 10th, 11th, and 12th in Sonora. The Journey experience is an opportunity to share and encounter Christ in each other. The weekend is a great way to jump start or recharge your faith. "Fran s Upholstery," de Manteca fue el presupuesto mas bajo para la nueva tapicería para los reclinatorio y almohadillas. En el momento en que usted lea esta carta, el primer grupo de reclinatorios será completo. Alivio para sus dolor de rodillas está en camino! La tapicería es fuerte, y de material resistente a las manchas. El relleno es fuerte también. Nos debería dar muchos años de servicio. Are you interested in learning more about your faith? The School of Ministry will again offer Introduction to Theology for Ministry at two locations beginning in September. This course provides those involved in ministry a basic adult study of the teachings of the Church. It is the theological segment of training for all specific ministry. The locations are: Sacred Heart Church at Cooper Ave, Turlock, CA 9380 on Thursday evenings beginning September 9th from 7:00 pm-9:30 pm or at the Diocesan Ryan Center at 220 N. San Joaquin St., Stockton, CA on Thursday evenings beginning September 4th from 7:00 pm-9:30 pm There is limited space. We speak of putting in an appearance or showing up. Even when we arrive, we are often distracted. We think ahead, or we review an unsettled past. Nonetheless, we are at our best when we truly show up. We are most fully ourselves when we are absorbed in something worthy of us: creative work, good conversation, prayer. In these instances we are wholly ourselves and wholly outside ourselves. Elijah knew this kind of engagement. He was one of God s great prophets. In today s first reading, he follows God s command to journey to that most holy place, Mount Horeb. And there in great silence, Elijah encounters God. As for Peter and the apostles, they discover the presence of God after the storm at sea. They and the sea and the winds are stunned into silent reverence.
