November 18, 2018 One day when I was about ten years old my older brother gave me a small booklet with the words on the cover life is short and death is sure. These words affected me so much that I kept asking myself, How then should I have to live my life? I also asked myself, When my time comes, will I know it and be able to prepare? I thought of those people who died instantly because of accidents. I am sure not all of them were ready. Not too many can really say, I am ready to die. We know death is a reality not too far from our everyday life. It will surely come. St. Joseph is considered patron and intercessor for those who want to have a happy and peaceful death. Happiness and death sound like big contradictions. Death is always seen as painful, destructive and abhorrent. When everything is done and nothing more seems to be possible to prolong life, then one cannot but pray for a happy and peaceful death. Such is the harsh reality of existence. But, thank God, death is not the end of everything. Our souls continue to live on. Jesus reminds us to courageously live our lives for others and not be afraid to die. Fr. Paul Mansell, parishioner On the Cover: On Saturday, November 10th, 49 of our Confirmation I students along with 7 chaperones boarded a bus and headed to Oceanside to attend the diocesan event Share the Journey held at St. Luis Rey Mission. The event included inspirational talks, a Eucharistic procession/pilgrimage on the Mission grounds led by Bishop Dolan and a concluding prayer & refection in front of the historic Old Mission San Luis Rey. The event was in response to Pope Francis Share the Journey campaign to transform the culture of indifference that exists about the 65 million migrants and refugees fleeing violence, extreme poverty, and injustice to a culture of encounter. Following the event, our group took an informative guided tour of the Mission grounds led by a Mission docent. COLLECTION FOR NATIONAL NEEDS This weekend has been designated for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 2018 Collection for National Needs. Special envelopes are available for this collection which supports the Black and Indian Missions, the Catholic Home Missions, the Catholic Communication Campaign, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and the Catholic University of America. 5 Page 5 Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time November 18, 2018 This week we celebrate Thanksgiving and are reminded of all the blessings we receive from God each day. These are some of the words of thanksgiving written by parishioners and friends in our Book of Gratitude this past year. I give thanks to God for giving me help with confessing my sins. I give thanks to God for life, for communion and for our new priest. I give thanks to God for giving me a little sister. I give thanks to God for His grace, love, mercy, forgiveness and peace. I give thanks to God for always being near my side. I give thanks to God for what You gave me this week. I will be responsible with the gift! Amen. I give thanks to God for putting such loving and wonderful people in my life. I give thanks to God for all the Mothers out there. May they be blessed and loved. I give thanks to God for my acceptance letter into OLP, my family, and for giving me the gifts to earn a scholarship at that school! Blessed be God! I give thanks to God for my amazing wife who deserves nothing but the best in life. Glory to God for all His blessings! I give thanks to God for my parents and their Catholic faith that they gave to me and my siblings. I give thanks to God for the many gifts and blessings He has given us even if we are undeserving. I give thanks to God for everything, most of all, for His everlasting love. I give thanks to God for all the people who are praying for my healing from breast cancer for His being with me and in me. With every breath He is here. Thank you. I give thanks to God for my sister and her going to grad school to become a teacher. I give thanks to God for curing me of breast cancer, the Church, my family and His great love. I give thanks to God for all things great and small. I give thanks to God for answered prayers...thanks, God! I give thanks to God for the amount of hope He bestows on us. I give thanks to God for this time of prayer. Thank you for all the graces you have given this poor sinner. Jesus I trust in you always. I give thanks to God for the peaceful passing of my mother. Estas son algunas de las palabras de agradecimiento escritas por los feligreses y amigos en nuestro Libro de Gratitud del año pasado. Señor te doy gracias por mi familia, y por que me has protegido cuidándome y no me has dejado sola en los tiempos que mas te he necesitado. Amen. Amen Amen. Gracias Dios por la fortalezas que nos das, gracias. Gracias por un día mas y por la salud de mi familia, las alegrías y la prosperidad. Gracias, por todas la bendiciones recibidas en mi vida. Gracias, por la vida que me has dado, porque tu plan Dios mío, es mejor que el mío. Gracias Dios mío por tu amor y tu gracia. Porque estas siempre conmigo y mis seres queridos. Amen. Gracias por no soltarme de tu mano. Gracias por todo. Solo te pido por la salud de mi esposo, y que mi hija pueda ir a la universidad, que es su sueño. Para mi solo te pido salud, fortaleza y auméntame la fe, no me sueltes de tu mano. Amen.
