2 ENGLISH Comparative Assessment of Employee s Aptitude and Attitude IMPROVEMENT TOOL A practical and simple assessment tool to help employees and their supervisor or anyone who wants improve themselves to start discussing, in an informal way, a plan of action to develop the skills and attitude needed for the employee's job. They will start by plotting the employee on separate charts based off where they see the employees aptitude and attitude. 3 ESPAÑOL Evaluación Comparativa de la Aptitud y Actitud del Empleado HERRAMIENTA DE DESARROLLO Una herramienta de evaluación práctica y simple para ayudar a los empleados y sus supervisores, o cualquiera que quiera mejorar, comenzar a platicar, de manera informal, un plan de acción para desarrollar las habilidades y la actitud necesarias para el trabajo del empleado. Comenzarán por ubicar en la gráfica, por separado, tanto el empleado como su supervisor, dónde creen está el empleado, con respecto a sus aptitudes y la actitud requeridas para su trabajo. 4 ENGLISH Instructions: 1. Every employee (supervisor) to be evaluated should have at least two blank charts. 2. Each person should place his/her initials where it crosses the level of knowledge and attitude that person believe has for the position that holds. 3. Then, he/she should ask his/her supervisor to place him/her in another blank chart without showing his/her own. 4. The employees and the supervisor compare the assessments and discuss differences 5. Both the supervisor and the employee agreed to a plan of action to improve the skills needed and the attitude required. This could include coaching, seminars, online course, cross training, etc. 6. Then, they write down specific actions to take and dates to meet to review the improvement and re-evaluate the plan of action. 7. Participants can do the same with his/her employees. Note: Before they do the assessment, prepared the job description. The assessment will be more effective when using the job description.

Cada persona debe colocar sus iniciales donde cruza el nivel de conocimiento y actitud que esa persona cree que tiene para el puesto que ocupa 3. 7 ENGLISH Example of some cases: The chart provided above is the evaluation that JP did not only for himself but also for his employees, who are MJ and AR. Also, in the chart, JP s boss also evaluated him regarding his skills and behaviors, marked in blue text color. JP (IN RED) is a supervisor who thinks he has around 80% of the technical and leadership skills for his position. Also, he believes his attitude is relatively good (65%) although he recognizes he needs to change something. JP (IN BLUE) is JP s assessment from the perspective of his immediate supervisor. His boss thinks that JP should learn better some technical issues and that he needs to stop complaining and improve his attitude. JP with his boss discussed and created an action plan to improve JP s technical knowledge and behavior. This plan will be reviewed every two weeks. MJ is the employee of JP. JP recognizes that MJ has more experience and knowledge than him, but the attitude of MJ is extremely bad, so JP plans to help MJ to change his attitude for the better. AR is a new JP s employee, with a great attitude but she needs to learn a lot of her role in her position. In fact, JP is asking MJ to train AR.

8 ESPAÑOL Ejemplo de algunos casos: El cuadro que se proporciona arriba es la evaluación que JP hizo no solo para sí mismo sino también para sus empleados, que son MJ y AR. MJ es el empleado de JP, este reconoce que MJ tiene más experiencia y conocimiento que él, pero la actitud de MJ es muy mala, por lo que JP planea ayudar a MJ a cambiar su actitud para mejor. AR es una nueva empleada de JP, con una gran actitud, pero necesita aprender mucho de su rol en su posición. De hecho, JP le está pidiendo a MJ que entrene a AR.
